TN: No Shift-Based Classes, Reopening After Normalcy returns says Tamil Nadu Education Minister

According to the recent guidelines issued by Tamil Nadu State Government, schools will not be opening in the state from 21 September 2020, Monday.

While talking about reopening schools, State Education Minister K. A. Sengottaiyan stated that there would be no shift-based reopening in schools across Tamil Nadu until the COVID-19 pandemic situation is under control.

“Once the schools reopen across the state, no shift-based classes or staggered class routines will operate, added K. A. Sengottaiyan.”

The state education minister also highlighted that all the classes would start functioning simultaneously once the school’s resume in the state.

On the reopening of schools, Mr. Sengottaiyan also informed that schools in the state have adequate infrastructure. There are sufficient numbers of classrooms in every school, and the authority will take the social distancing norms seriously.

Similarly, Delhi, Gujarat, Kerala, Uttar Pradesh, and Uttarakhand government will also not allow classes to resume from today.

However, as part of Unlock 4 guidelines, the Central government permitted the partial reopening of schools and said that students of Classes 9 and 12 can visit on a voluntary basis.

State Government to Reduce School Syllabus by 40%

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic situation in the state, schools in the state have been closed for the last 5 months. Following this, with an aim to reduce the burden of the students, the state government has announced a 40% reduction in the school syllabus.

While online classes are taking place, the state government has also launched classes through a Television channel for education. Large number of private and aided schools have switched to the online mode of teaching students to ensure that the learning process is not hampered.
