UGC Releases New Guidance Document to Enhance Research Integrity-' Good Academic Research Practices'

The University Grants Commission (UGC) will be releasing a new guidance document, named 'Good Academic Research Practices' on September 29, 2020. The document will provide the general framework for enhancing the research integrity along with good practices and potential threats.

Clarivate- Web of Science, is the knowledge partner of UGC newly released document. Clarivate selects and indexes the world's most influential scholarly literature across all the disciplines.

UGC Vice-Chancellor Dr. Bhushan Patwardhan said in a statement, "There is a need for improving the standards of academic integrity as well as quality of research. For this, the document is going to be useful."

'Good Academic Research Practices' - Guidance Document

The document will include aspects like research design, planning, research execution, documentation and data storage. Besides this, the document will also discuss ways of checking plagiarism, fabrication, falsification and misrepresentation and thus selecting the right journal for publication and accordingly mentoring the upcoming generation.

An added aspect of the document is how research misconduct can manifest at any stage of the research cycle. 

Dr. Patwardhan also informed that the list of journals of good quality is regularly updated. This new document will help in encouraging research integrity which is important for science to thrive. The values articulated can form a sound foundation for a research culture in daily practice.
