The University Grants Commission (UGC) has asked Higher Education Institutions to submit proposals to provide students online and distance learning programs from January 2021.
The UGC established Open and Distance Learning Programme and Online Programs Regulations on 4 September 2020.
According to the official notification of UGC, the online window for submitting new applications will be open till 15 October 2020.
As per the details by UGC, following the Open, Distance Learning Programs, and Online Program Regulations Act 2020, the new applications have been invited from eligible Higher Educational Institutions that are about to offer online and open and distance learning courses.

The official notification reads, “UGC invites fresh applications from all eligible Higher Educational Institutions (HEIs) as per University Grants Commission (Open and Distance Learning Programmes and Online Programmes) Regulations, 2020 for offering Open and Distance Learning (ODL) programmes and Online (OL) programmes from 2020-21, academic session beginning January, 2021 and onwards. The online portal for submitting applications shall be opened up to 15.10.2020.”
The academic session would commence in January 2021. Furthermore, the official notification is available on the official website of the UGC (ugc.ac.in).

According to the new guidelines, only the institutions eligible to offer such courses will be able to submit the applications on the UGC portal for the January 2021 admission session.
The notification further specified that hardcopy of the duly certified application and the necessary documents should be referred to within ten working days to the Distance Education Bureau office of UGC of the submission of the online application.
