The University Grants Commission (UGC) has issued guidelines to start the admission process for all undergraduate and postgraduate courses for the upcoming academic year 2020-21.
As per the guidelines, all the universities have to complete the admission process by August 31, 2020. However, in special cases, provisional admissions can be taken for which the relevant documents have to be submitted by September 30, 2020.

UGC has also extended the time to conduct final year and terminal semester examinations. The universities and educational institutes can now provide provisional admissions even after September 30, 2020 in case the student falls under the eligibility criteria, till revised guidelines on Academic Calendar are issued by UGC.
Recently the much-awaited judgment on plea challenging UGC guidelines to hold mandatory final year examinations by September 30, 2020, was announced by SC. The verdict stated that UGC cannot mandate completion of exams and states can appeal to UGC for extension of dates. However, students cannot be conferred degrees without examination.
