Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar cautioned against brain drain during the third convocation ceremony of the Royal Assam Global University in Guwahati.
New Delhi: The Vice President of India, Shri Jagdeep Dhankar, graced the convocation ceremony of the Royal Assam Global University. The vice president noted that more than two-thirds were girls. He referred to this as a changing profile of the nation.
The presence of a substantial number of female graduates at the Royal Assam Global University's convocation is a testament to the institution's commitment to providing a conducive learning environment for all its students.
The vice president also highlighted that the passing of the Women's Reservation Bill in Parliament was a historic step for the largest democracy on the planet. He mentioned that quality education is the most impactful transformational mechanism that improves any society. VP warned against the draining of “our brains and our foreign exchange to foreign locations”.
Speaking at the university's event, the Vice President characterized the convocation as a culmination of the training provided by the educators, bringing to fruition the hopes and dreams of the students and their families. Commending the National Education Policy (NEP 2020), Dhankhar stated “Implementation of the policy has led to the integration of knowledge and skills by allowing the students to pursue simultaneous courses.”
He also mentioned the need to take education as a service to the nation and urged the people to give back whatever they got from it to give back. “Leveraging education for the purpose of commerce and business is antithetical to the societal cause and the sublimity, virtuosity of our civilization,” he added.
Applauding the recent achievement of Chandrayaan-3's successful landing on the moon's south pole, following an earlier unsuccessful attempt in 2019, the Vice President emphasized that failure is an essential part of the journey toward success. Drawing an analogy, he likened failure to a glass of water that can be perceived as either half-full or half-empty.
He also emphasized the significant role that alumni contributions and support play in fostering universities worldwide. Furthermore, he encouraged students to establish enduring ties with their alma mater and continually contribute to its resources for the enhancement of education. Earlier in the day, during a one-day tour, Dhankhar visited Cotton University in Guwahati, engaging with both students and faculty members. In the evening, he participated in a felicitation event organized by the members of the Brihattar Guwahati Marwari Samaj in Guwahati.
