Vice-President Dhankhar Addresses Misconceptions about IITs and Merit-Based Admissions; Check Details Here

New Delhi: The Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar expressed his concern about the perception that Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) exclusively serve the upper class. 

He highlighted that IITs are open to students from diverse backgrounds, including those from villages and humble origins who have achieved admission based solely on merit. 

He emphasized this point during his address at IIT Delhi, underscoring that each student's admission to IIT is determined by their merit, and that should be the prevailing narrative.

Dhankhar remarked that strangely, some individuals find the progress hard to accept. They might even claim that Pakistan has a more favorable Hunger Index than India. It's surprising how far they can stretch their arguments. They face issues that institutions like IIT should address to uncover why the nation's growth is hindered by these factors. Something needs to be addressed

On the occasion, Dhankhar asked the students to focus their efforts on cutting-edge technologies such as artificial intelligence, quantum computing, and green energy. 

Encouraging the students to ‘dream big, think decisively and never be tentative,” he added that Bharat 2047 is just not a vision but a reality that surpasses the world of India's dreams.

He commended the National Green Hydrogen Mission, affirming that India is poised to emerge as the leading global hub for the production and export of green hydrogen by 2030. This transformation is anticipated to draw an investment of 8 lakh crores and generate over 6 lakh jobs.

The Vice-President also praised the role of IITs in democratizing access to top-tier education across the country. He urged students to vigilantly counter any narratives that undermine the image of India and its institutions.
