The West Bengal Education Minister Partha Chatterjee announced on July 15, 2020 that colleges admission for undergraduate programs will take place through online mode this year.

The higher education department will release a detailed advisory in early August 2020. He further said that the higher secondary examination result will be announced on July 17, 2020 and the mark sheets will be available on July 31, 2020 from 52 centres.

He further added that students can take admission from August 1 to 10 or apply to another school from August 11 to 31, 2020.

Chatterjee also said that the higher education department is yet to get any reply to the letter by Principal Secretary Manish Jain voicing the state's reservations about making it mandatory to hold final semester exams in the pandemic situation.

Partha said that department officials had also apprised Governor Jagdeep Dhankar about the state's views on the issue and he voiced concern about the welfare of students in the present situation.

In an advisory meeting on July 6, 2020, the Centre had recommended making the final semester exams mandatory in offline or online mode by September 30, 2020.

In response to a lack of placement opportunities for the final year students, Chatterjee said, "We are thinking of approaching the alumni of different higher education institutions to come up for the help of students in whatever way they can."
