Given your rank, and presumably your General Category, it is almost impossible to get into an NIT. In case you don’t have a proper NIT in your home state, go for IITs instead.
If you are however adamant about opting for an NIT only you will have to go for Mechanical, Civil, or Chemical Engineering as your specialization. Under these, you still have chances of making it into mediocre NITs like NIT Surat, NIT Calicut and Jaipur. If you want to go for Electrical, you can choose a below-average NIT if you are okay with it.
