How is the life of non Maharashtran students in GMC Mumbai or Seth GS College Mumbai?
Students coming from other different states of India might face some issues while adjusting to GMC Mumbai or Seth GS College Mumbai. However, I believe your home state or language should not be an obstacle in your education path because both these colleges are very prestigious and are dream colleges of many. Moreover, their location adds to the never-ending pros of these colleges.
Non-Maharashtrian students might face issues while adjusting to government hostels that have scanty rooms, average mess food, and sometimes terrible roommate tantrums.
Language barrier is another major issue faced by non-Maharashtrians. It’s better to know Hindi or English, at least but try to learn the basic native language for easy communication with patients, localities, office staff, and peers. If you don’t know Marathi, you will face serious issues while interacting with your patients and this may affect your performance.
So try to adjust and stay motivated!
How is the infrastructure of NIT Hamirpur?
In 2007, NIT Hamirpur was ranked as the best NIT in terms of infrastructure by the World Bank. It’s filled with natural beauty and has very beautifully designed buildings. There are more than 10,000 pine trees on the entire campus. The climate is usually pleasant and the view is breathtaking. Which one is better, NIT Kurukshetra or VIT Vellore?
If you are getting the same branches, then choosing NIT Kurukshetra over VIT Vellore is a better decision. Here is why
- NIT Kurukshetra is an Institute of National Importance and its tag is highly regarded.
- You will get a permanent membership to the NIT fraternity.
- The placement opportunities are much better at NIT than at VIT. You can get a good package even if you are an average student here
- NIT Kurukshetra is located in close vicinity to cities like Chandigarh and Delhi. Students have more places to explore.
VIT Vellore is a decent college but if I had to choose between NIT and VIT, I would have chosen NIT Kurukshetra.
How are the placements of mining in NIT Rourkela?
My brother did his B.Tech in Mining Engineering from NIT Rourkela. Here is a list of companies that recruit NIT Rourkela students from this branch-
- Tata Steel- It is the best company for Mining graduates. Work culture at Tata Steel is better than the other companies visiting NIT R for placements. The hand salary offered at Tata Steel is 60-70k.
- Coal India Ltd.- Work culture over there depends upon how you wish to shape your future. The in hand salary for employees posted in UG mines is 45-46k, in OC mines are 42-43k, and in Headquarters is 40-41k. In a Government of India-regulated firm like Coal India, there is a specific pay scale based on seniority. Coal India Ltd. makes campus recruitments at E2 grade with a basic pay of 20k+ for every employee, from Mining, Finance, Personnel and Excavation. The difference in the salaries of UG, OC and Headquarters employees is because of the additional UG and Coalfield allowance granted to the UG and OC employees.
Also, a certain amount gets deducted from your salary every month because of a 5 year bond. You will get the money after completing 5 years with the firm.
- Hindustan Zinc Ltd. (Vedanta)- The work culture at this company is not good. For like 8 hours each day, you will hear words like production, development, availability and utilization. In hand salary is around 52k + incentives.
- Hindalco- The in-hand salary is around 32-33k.
Another firm that recruits Mining students from NIT Rourkela is Lafarge. Overall, the placements for Mining at NIT Rourkela are quite decent.
Is there any fee discount for SC/ST in BIT Mesra for B.Tech?
There is no fee discount offered exclusively to SC/ST candidates of B.E. at BIT Mesra. However, you may get some discount on the first-semester fee, which is available for students of all castes and depends upon their ranks.
BIT Mesra and its other branches (Ranchi, Patna, Deoghar, and Jaipur) do offer scholarships to students based on their GPA and their performance each semester.
To become eligible for the scholarship, you have to score more than or equal to 8 GPA in your semesters. The scholarship is not caste-based and is open to every deserving student. With the benefit of this scholarship, if you perform well in a semester, some percentage of your fee will be credited back into your bank account. This is the scholarship criteria-
- 8 GPA - 20% scholarship
- 8.5 GPA - 50% scholarship
- 9 GPA - 75% scholarship
- 9.5 GPA - 100% scholarship (you won’t be charged for your hostel and mess. All the money paid by you will be credited to your bank account)
Thus, students of all social backgrounds can avail the benefit of fee deduction if they score very good grades during each semester of their B.E. at BIT Mesra and its other campuses through this scholarship system.
How is life at AIIMS Bhopal and Bhubaneshwar?
I have a few pieces of information on life at AIIMS Bhubaneswar. My friend is a second-year M.B.B.S. student there and shared her experience of her first year.
- To begin with, she was amazed by the huge diversity of the students here as she got to interact with students from all over the country and felt the cultural differences to the core.
- The festivals break all boundaries and all the students can be seen celebrating Ganesh Chaturthi, Onam, and Pongal with the same zeal. The festival celebrations are the most lively moments of college life here.
- Apart from festivals, there are many cultural fests, sports events, literary competitions, and a number of other exciting events that make your college life lively.
- There is great harmony between seniors and juniors and seniors are ever ready to help.
- The faculty is also very friendly and cooperative and the labs are equipped with the latest instruments.
- sports also play a major role in your college life and AIIMS Bhubaneswar has it all set with its sports facilities like a gym, basketball court, football ground, table tennis, and badminton.
Life at AIIMS Bhubaneswar is always chirpy and dynamic and you won’t ever feel out of place or bored. There is a great balance between academics and extracurriculars to give you the perfect college-life experience.
Can a fresher at JBIMS get a salary above 14 lpa?
Yes, it’s quite possible for a fresher to land a package of 14 LPA or more. In fact, my sister's batch had many freshers that were offered the best profiles and highest packages. Your lack of work experience should not hinder your performance and talents. As a fresher you should
- Be extremely confident while answering any question
- Have a great extracurricular background
- Have clarity of goals and enough skills and knowledge to pursue them
- Not key your lack of experience take a toll on you
With the right mindset and performance even a fresher can get a good package at JBIMS.
If you had to made a decision between joining XLRI-NCR Campus or IIM Udaipur, Which would you chose and why?
If I had to make a choice between the two colleges, my decision would have been to go for XLRI-NCR campus. Some strong points that favor my opinion are
- Brand: The brand name of XLRI is very strong and not comparable to the new IIMs.
- Campus: IIM Udaipur campus is still incomplete whereas XLRI has a permanent campus with world class facilities.
- Pedagogy: The pedagogy is almost similar to that of the original branch of XLRI. This means most electives will be taught by renowned professors from XLRI itself. The pedagogy of IIM Udaipur is nowhere near that of XLRI.
- Placements: The best part of placements here is that the summer and final placements of both the institutes (XLRI Main campus and NCR campus) are held together. This opens doors for top consulting and FMCG companies that do not visit the IIM Udaipur campus. A slight comparison between the placement statistics of the 2 B Schools is given below

How good is the placement scenario at iim kozhikode for fpm programme?
The FPM or Fellow Program in Management at IIM Kozhikode does have its own placement program. This is because the batch size is very small.
But the FPM program in itself is such a meticulous one that all its students become scholars or researchers. The recent data confirms that most of its fellows have been placed in the top IIMs or other reputed Management Schools ranked high on NIRF.
The only thing you need to be careful about is not delaying your thesis work and having good publications. If not you might face problems at the time of placements.
The FPM degree has been renamed as the PhD and IIM Kozhikode provides excellent placements for the same.
