Course Curriculum Overview

The course curriculum I studied was just appropriate for the cinematography. We started from basic in the first semester which later went into the sea of knowledge. Projects, attendance, practicals, coursework, sessionals, written exam, exercises were the mandatory things.

Placement Experience

The institute provided large no of recruitments, they gave us interviews training during our 5th and 6th semester which helped us during our placements interviews. I got a package of ?6 lacs in our college.

Fee Structure And Facilities

The fee structure for the Post graduation course was rs 41,250 for one semester.. they were total 6 semesters.. that meant 41,250*6 The fee structure matched with all the other institutions fee structure...many facilities was provided us in this fee

Campus Life

All the festivities began with the day 1 of our college. We almost celebrated every festival of all parts of India... Whether it's onam or holi we had everything inside our college campus... Different film screening was too done there free of cost.

Hostel Facilities

Yes hostel was there...with damn big facilities including gym. Hostel admission charge during my academics was 1331 which they took once with this they asked for security deposits of rs7986/- After paying all this... Our hostel fee was 21,626 for one semester.

Admission

We provided admission on the basis of our nationally conducted JET scores and interview marks. Questions used to come in the form of multiple choice questions... Shortlisted students got their interview letters directly from the administration.

Faculty

The faculty was very talented and maintained close relation with students. They provided us lots of exposure which is helping us today in our work fields. They were so much experienced that they made everything easy for us.

Likes

The faculty is very good and helpful as well as supportive. With every hands on experience on media studies and practicals with the department media lab. Also included many Industry Visits like Doordarshan and AIR, santiniketan.
The department feels like a family. All the teachers as well as the Research scholars are very supportive and engaging. Also included mentorship opportunity with industry professionals with Seminar Lectures.
The Greatest strength is the huge campus, spread across the whole town with lots of trees and fields. There are open study spaces and well equipped Library with Online library as well. The Campus is well equipped with Campus Wifi

Dislikes

The Media Lab of the Department needs to be more updated with Modern equipments and gears. Our Lab does not have the proper equipments.
The course trends to prepare students more into academic fields and research than actual industry or corporate training
Basic amenities like Drinking water and clean toilets lack in the campus.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The syllabus of the course is pretty nice with diversified subjects alsong with specialization subjects in the 3rd and 4th semester. Some compulsory subjects include Tagore Studies and Basics of Communication. The course also includes Development Communication, Online media, Journalism, Gender studies, Advanced Audio Visual Production. The department is well equipped a mac lab but it only have 5 macs. The curriculum also includes Design, UIUX, Graphics design etc, and the curriculum is continuously updating with moden media teachings. The curriculum mostly prepare us for Academic Purposes than Industry.

VBU at a glance

Likes

The campus was very safe and surrounded by greenery.
There's a Central library where there's a huge stock of books and journals
The faculty were very good and was friendly towards the students.

Dislikes

Lack of maintenance of media laboratory.
Lack of practical in hand workshops for cinematography.
Lack of proper software for page design and editing

Course Curriculum Overview:

I have chosen the course because it was my passion to serve for democracy being the fourth pillar of it. There were 4 faculty members in total and 40 students. The faculty members came from different universities. Our HOD Dr Mausumi Bhattacharya has completed her Post Doctoral fellowship from ICSSR. The exams were held twice a year based on the semester system. They were quite moderate.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I want to be a tv anchor or a news editor and that's why I have taken this course. We have 57 seats in the journalism and mass communication departments. For UR candidates 23 seats, for OBC 15 seats for SC 9 for ST 4, for EWS 6 seats are available. We have a total of 5 faculties in our department. So student-faculty ratio is around 11 students per faculty. All of our faculties are good. This is a practical field. They are taking the regular class and they are given a lot of practical tasks. So that we can enrich ourselves. We have audiovisual classes, fieldwork, group discussion, group debate and many more. PG is consist of 4 semesters and we have to pass all of them. Exams are moderate to pass. We have practical exams too.

Best Institute in Town

Admission:

I got admission by giving the JET exams that happen every year. There was an interview round for which I was selected. I felt lucky enough to get shortlisted in the final admission list. There was a medical test which was taken by the institute later when the admission was granted.

The most Valuable Institute

Admission:

The institute basic norms for admission is that the student should have an undergraduate degree from a recognized institute. The student who should also give the JET exams. Then on the basis of the marks the students are shortlisted and selected for the interview round. Admission is granted on the basis by cumulating all the scores

Placement Experience:

The placement process is not that regular in our department but they guide us and accordingly, the student with good merit can achieve the required vacancy wherever they want. The Department promotes our works and ideas to the outer world and through which we get the strength to build our confidence. The Department basically stands as a backbone to our choices.

Admission:

The college holds its own entrance test. A merit list comes out of the students who qualify in the entrance exam on the college website. These students then have to go for the interview round which happens in the college campus. I got selected and gave the interview which went pretty good. Then I got a mail as the offer letter for admission into the college.

No, it's a government institute they don't provide any placements. Yes though some of the private company gave the chance that is for very few students and not may companies visited actually.
