Remarks

Good aspects:- High academic reputation in State. Best Faculty and Staff. Teachers are very supportive. Green and Clean Campus (Ranked 2nd in NIRF 2020 ranking). Fest, Cultural activities and Youth Festival. Work experience and Internship. Sports and Co-curriculum activities. High research output. Hostel accommodation is very good and mess food is okay. Many cafe and canteens are available within the campus. Negative Aspects:- You have to struggle a lot to get placed. The placement cell is just Okay. The administration is very slow. Admission process and Dates: Application form filling generally start in the months of May every year. Common Entrance Exam takes place in the month of June. You get your preferred college based on the Merit Rank. GNDU is just 95 km from my home, this is the main reason for preferring it. I mainly search GNDU official website, social media and collegedunia website while searching for a college.

Course Curriculum Overview

4

I chose BSc (Hons.) Agriculture because this course has many scopes in future. You Can become Agriculture Development Officer (ADO), Horticulture Development Officer (HDO) and can do jobs in companies like Nestle, Verka, Markfed etc or you can enhance the output of your family agriculture business. Class size may vary from 40 to 60 students per class and there are 10 to 11 professors per semester, so the faculty to student ratio is 4:1 or 6:1. Most of the teachers are PhD degree holders while other cleared UGC - NET exam. Teaching method may vary from teacher to teacher, but all give their best efforts to teach students. There are two exams per semester that are Mid Semester exam and the Final Semester Exam. Mid-semester exam held in September (for the odd semester) and March (for the even semester). The final Semester exam takes place in the month of June(for the even semester) and November (for the odd semester). Exams strictly follow the syllabus and they are of medium difficulty level.

Placement Experience

3.5

For the second last to last semester, you become eligible for campus placement. Wipro, LIC, HDFC, TATA, Nestle, Amul, Verka, Intel etc are companies that come for campus placement. The average package is 3 lakh per year while the highest package may vary from 7 to 15 lakh. Around 70 to 80% of students got placements each year. I wanted to pursue MSc in Plant Breeding and Genetics.

Fees and Financial Aid

The fee is generally high in all Punjab State University compared to neighbouring states of India. The Couse fee is 61915 per year. The fee for new admission may increase 10% each year. Hostel accommodation fee is 19500 per year and mess fee is payable at the end of every month based on diet. Generally, one diet cost Rs 32. There are many scholarships available to students who cannot afford to pay a fee. All UGC scholarships are available. University scholarship is available to students for an annual income of less than 2.5 lakh.

Campus Life

4.5

Campus life is amazing. You can enjoy it very well. There are many fests that take place every month, from tech fest to business fest. Youth festival takes place in the month of March every year. Bhai Gurdas Library has over lakh books. Many prominent journals and research papers are present in the library. You can read it and issue these books and journals free of cost. Classrooms are well furnished with projectors, desk. Rooms are clean with proper aeration and sunlight. GNDU sports department is among the top all over India. GNDU ranked 2nd in Khelo India Games. Extracurricular activities like drawing, painting, music, drama, dancing etc are also available on campus. There are many activities clubs run by students such as Fine Art Club, Drama Club, Science Club, Music Club etc. NCC and NSS are also present.

Hostel Facilities

4

Hostel accommodation is good. Rooms are well furnished with bed, almirah, fans and light. Proper sunlight and airation are present. However, rooms in Hostel no.1 and 2 are small. Anyone who lived outside the 60 km diameter of the University is eligible for hostel accommodation. Mess food is good. Canteens are also present inside the hostel. Hostel admission starts in June. Hostels are generally affordable compared to PG rooms. Volleyball, tennis ground and Indoor games are also available at hostel free of cost. PG rooms are available in both the front and backside of the University. PG rent may vary from Rs 3000 to 6000 excluding food. All PG are available within walking distance from the university. Food is also available in PGs, if not there are many restaurants present.

Interview Experience

4.5

There is a Common Entrance Exam for admission to various courses conducted by GNDU. The exam generally takes place in the month of June. The exam syllabus is based on NCERT Class 12th syllabus. Exam pattern is MCQ type. You get your preferred course based on Merit Rank in counselling. To prepare for this exam revise the Class 12th syllabus completely.
