Course Curriculum Overview

2.5

The curriculum is not as in-depth or upto date as it is supposed to be. Also the curriculum does not have enough information, to get the students into top masters courses, so most students often have to take up other diplomas or certificates. The Physics course does not focus as much as it should on quantum physics or statistical physics or Astrophysics. Which are the core reasons why most students take up BSc. Physics. The course structure is also very obscene considering there are no more honours program. And there is also not enough focus on research. The lab work is often not upto mark and will always leave you feeling un satisfied. The curriculum is basically the CBSE syllabus but much more complex and higher level. The mathematics syllabus is actually very apt. And teaches all the necessary items. The Physics syllabus for the first year and second year is fine, but I'm 3rd year they do not emphasize on the important branches of physics.

Fees and Financial Aid

In the first year I paid a total sum of rs. 1,17,000 Breakdown of the fees:- Admission fees:- 5000 Eligibility fee:- 10,000 Course fee:- 42,000 NRI fee:- 50,000 Language course fee:- 10,000 In my second year I paid a total sum of 59,500 I was able to pay it in 2 cours this time. Scholarships:- There are multiple scholarships, being a Jesuit institute There are also many financial waivers There is the Reliance scholarship The chevening scholarship NBCFDC Life is good

Campus Life

3.5

I am heavily involved on campus. I was on the sponsorship team last year for my college fests We have 2 college fests, prathiba the intra college fest which is usually held in september-october and visages the inter college fest which is usually held in january-february. Unfortunately last year both the events were not good. It was very last minute and mismanaged. And there was also constant disapproval from the management for the ideas put forth by the students. There also many associations and their fests. The Physics students association Is hosting their fest Noesis soon. There are multiple associations that students should check out. The library is amazing with a very nice environment but it is small, and not completely accomodating. The classes are all well equipped with things I deem enough for a college classroom. The computer labs are also very amazing.Sports require a bit more investment in our college. The volleyball court is not big enough, the football ground is not maintaned

Admission

I actually only applied to St. Joseph's University. The application processes were simple enough. The reason I chose this college over others were because I simply did not care much about which college I go to. Long as it had a good atmosphere. The College also HAD an amazing physics program, where research was collaborated with IIA and IISC but it is no longer there. Also the college has an amazing Observatory which unfortunately is undergoing renovations right now, for the next 2 years. The College seemed very simple and I liked it. The eligibility criteria is to have passed all your 12th exams and to have 60% minimum. Certain courses have entrance exam but mine did not. What I understood over the last 2 years is that, the admission process is more so based on first come first basis. Also having money helps. You also have to accept your offer letter within 2 days of receiving it otherwise it will get rescinded. And you have to accept it by paying the fees for the entire year.

Faculty

3.5

The faculty is fine enough. There are some AMAZING professors and some bad ones. The AMAZING ones are very approachable and they teach very well. The bad ones are those who teach horrendously and are also horrendous human beings. Physics department has multiple amazing teachers. The dean, Prof. Rabbi is an amazing professors who's classes are genuinely worth sitting in, he is also very informative about all the topics he discusses. He also entertains every student and the most absurd theories. We have 2 CIA's worth 10 marks each. And a mid- semester examination worth 20 marks. So the total internal marks are 40. Then we have an end semester exam worth 60 marks. So to pass in a subject you just need combined 49 marks totally out of 100. This system is actually very helpful and will work out in the favour of most students.
