Course Curriculum Overview

3

BDS is a very artistic course. I chose this course because I'm interested in the medical field and could not get a government MBBS college. The curriculum prepares us for everything we would need to maintain our own clinic and earn money through our skills. The teaching could be improved a lot of the teachers teaching the practical and theory classes coordinate with each other more so that we are taught the same topics at the same time in both theory and practical. The internal exams are once every three months and one professional exam at the end of the year. The internals are very hard and it's incredibly difficult to pass in them as well have to secure 50% marks in both practical and theory of each and every subject.

Internships Opportunities

2

There is 1 year compulsory internship provided at the college and hospital. 1500 rupees stipend is given to the interns. The college does not provide placements but students can directly apply to work at this college and hospital after completing the course.

Fees and Financial Aid

Fees structure per year-:2,15,000 Hostel fees -: 1,15,000 Hostel fees with AC-:1,20,000 Admission time charges-:55,000 Scholarship for top 15 students scoring above 400 marks-: 50,000 Year wise scholarship for top 5 students-: upto 50,000 Examination fees:-12,000 per subject Fee structure does not increase. Complete course fees-: 2,15,000*4 =8,60,000

Campus Life

3

As I am a hostellers, there are multiple parties organized throughout the year such as Christmas party, Lohdi party and Holi party. There is DJ and snacks and food available during these events. Christmas party is held in December and Holi and lohdi party before the holidays for the same festival. There is a founder's function which is held annually and the college fest includes the sports and cultural fest which are held separately. During the Fest the students from other colleges also participate, so the competitions held during the Fest are inter-college. Most of all the reference books are available in the college library but only one book at a time can be issued and only for 7 days. After 7 days there is a fine of 25 rupees per day. There is Wi-Fi available in the college and hostel but it doesn't work very well. There are ACs present in the lecture halls but not in any labs and the lecture halls are sound proof. The mics present in the lecture halls do not work well so sometimes we have to struggle to listen to what the teacher is saying. As there are volleyball, basketball and badminton courts present the hostellers can play there everyday during the designated time. Table tennis is also available. There are no student run social groups or any clubs. But the public health dentistry department holds different competitions throughout and nukkad natak and poster making is part of it.

Hostel Facilities

3

Hostel facilities are ok-ish, the water coolers don't work a lot of the times in the girls hostel. There are 6 floors in the girsls hostels and 5 floors in the boys hostel. There is lift in the girls hostel but not in the boys hostel. There are separate bathrooms. The rooms are double and single occupancy and AC rooms are available. For single room there is 50,000 extra charges. You have to pay your own electricity bill. Hot water is made available during the winters. There are 2 almira, 2 beds, 2 table and chair, 2 tubelights , 2 fans present and attached bathroom present in the rooms. There are maid present here who clean he rooms and bathrooms twice every week. We can only out during he out timings and we have to take gate pass to go out of the campus during any other time. The mess food is average, sometimes very distasteful but sometimes ok. We cannot take the mess food to our rooms.Sometimes the food tastes very bad.The menu is changed according to the seasons and students can give their suggestions for the menu No outside person can go inside the hostel.

Admission

I also applied to Amity University, Noidafor BSc, I even got a scholarship there but then I changed my mind about the course and wanted to do BDS. I checked out UDMRI and HIDS as well but I found that Seema dental was better in terms of the infrastructure and other facilities. Admission in Seema dental college can only be through NEET exam, only the cutoff marks are needed for the admission. After the result comes out, you have to apply for the Uttarakhand NEET counselling and select the college and when you get selected you have to submit all the documents required and pay the college fees. There are only 2 dental colleges in Uttarakhand and this one is much better than UDMRI in terms of infrastructure, facilities, equipment and the faculty as well.

Faculty

3

There are different no. of faculty members depending on the department. Some of the faculty members are very approachable as they ask us to come to them with any doubts in free time. DR. Prem Prakash gupta(biochemistry),Dr. Nagaraja(Oral pathology), Dr.Uttkarsh Bhatt(Prosthodontics),Vijay Raj sir(Pharmacology) are some of the best faculties. I like these teachers as they are always concerned for the students and listen to our queries and help us in every way possible. Dr.Pulkit Gupta(Cons and endo) is one of the teachers I don't like because he is incredibly strict and unreasonable and suspends students for coming even 10 minutes late.I also don't like Mukesh Mishra sir(General Pathology) because he is not concerned for the students and is very rude sometimes. BDS is a 4+1(internship) year course. There is 1 professional exam at the end of each year which includes 100 marks practical and 100 marks theory exam. There are 3 internal exams during each year and several class tests. You need 50% marks to pass and 75% attendance is compulsory. If the attendance is short at the end of the year there is some fine to be able to sit in the examination.

Interview Experience

4

There was no GD, you just have to give the NEET exam and in the basis of that you get admission in the college. You just have to take part in the Uttarakhand neet counselling and select this college as the option and then pay the college fees after results of the counseling are out.

Night Life

4

There are a lot of cafes in the city of rishikesh and a bunch of river side spots. I like to just go and sit near the river to unwind after a hectic day. You can also go the cafes but they are very expensive as well. There are not really any hangout spots inside campus but outside you can got on Bairaj, Triveni ghat, Ram jhula, Janki Jhula, Tapovan, Waterfalls etc. Outing times for hostellers Week days- 4-9 p.m Sarurday- 12:30-9 p.m Sunday - 8 a.m-9 p.m The city of rishikesh is relatively safe during day time but not very safe after 9 p.m at night. The night life could be amazing other than the safety issues. Overall the most fun and peaceful things is to just sit near the river and enjoy the view.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I opted for this course as I wanted to become a DENTIST. Faculty: ratio is there is 1 teacher available always for every 20 students. Faculties are master graduates in their respective fields and some are b.d.s graduates who are also very helpful. Exams after every 3 months and a final professional YEAR-END examination and practical are done.

For me, BDS is a perfect course as teachers and faculty members here are brilliant. They are so helpful and explain each concept multiple times. Practical classes are over the top as all the departments are fully equipped with dental chairs, sterilization machines.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I chose this course because I feel like the people in India are so much unaware of their oral hygiene and don't take proper care of it with later on leads to many complications. So I wanted to join this field and make them aware of their bad oral habits treat their oral and dental problems as it's very important to have healthy oral hygiene and dental health as well. The faculty staff is very supportive and understanding they help us out with our problems and positively guide us towards our practice as well as theory work. There are 2 internal assessment exams 1 preprofessional exam and a final professional exam for each year. In the first year, I was a bit nervous about the exams and viva, and as I started giving exams. I got mentally prepared for further coming years.

Remarks:

To be very honest, there may be better colleges, but after my two months of research on more than 8 dental colleges in north India, I found that SDCH was best for me. Of course, there are many factors: The affordable fee. The fascinating and refreshing weather. The location of the college. The college has pg departments. Regular festival celebrations, Fest, Sports week, DJ nights, Etc. College is located on the bank of holy river ganga, you can witness daily sunrise through the mountains. I love the weather of Rishikesh as well as the location of college, it is located far from the city commotion. You can walk on the bank of river or jog daily or just sit there with your loved ones, you will feel fresh and fresh and fresh. Helping faculties, no compromise in study, you may have to face daily viva and questions in classroom. You can't hide yourself from the eyes of faculties (may not be good for some. Laboratories have more than enough instruments, machines. etc. The nearest market is at distance of 10 to 15 mins. Of distance – Triveni Ghat. Stationery shops and restaurants are just outside the college campus. College canteen is also there where you will be found in boring lectures eating bread pakoda and Maggie with coffee;). Ragging word is not there in SDCH seniors dictionary. In fact, they will help you in many ways in growing your personalities, in your studies and of course during exams. They will make you aware of all the tough situations you will be facing in coming days. The only thing they want back in return is RESPECT from juniors. You cannot roam all day in the rishikesh on working days, there is fixed timing for daily outing and fixes procedures for gate pass.

SDCH ranks among one of the best dental colleges in all of India. Getting to learn there is something I think I got lucky with. I have already made great friends and there are opportunities waiting for me to get to know more people, hopefully. It has been a wonderful experience so far. But I've only started college. I look forward to the years ahead and am sure it will be the best I could have ever had.The teaching, the faculty, the campus it is all beautiful and enjoyable. I would suggest this college anytime.
