Singapore International Graduate Award (SINGA) is presented to both domestic and international who wish to pursue research at one of the labs of A-Star agency of Science, technology, and research.

A*STAR collaborated with Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore University of technology and design (SUTD) and the National University of Singapore (NUS) to award SINGA.

  • It is available to doctorate students who want to pursue study/research in the field of Science and Engineering after completion of their post-graduate degree in any of the above Singapore Universities.
  • Singapore International Graduate Award is awarded to two recipients.
  • The award covers full tuition fees, monthly stipend, and other expenses.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants who wish to secure Singapore International Graduate Award must meet the eligibility requirements listed below:

  • Must have completed the c PG degree with an excellent academic record.
  • The research area for the doctorate degree must fall under the broad categories of Biomedical Sciences and Physical Science and Engineering.
  • Must have good command over English as the medium of instruction and communication will be English.

Application Process

To secure Singapore International Graduate Award, applicants must submit an application form online available on the official website of the A*STAR Scholarship portal.

The application must be submitted along with the following documents.

Student supporting Documents

  • Passport
  • Colored passport size photograph
  • Academic Transcripts with certified translations
  • Two LOR

The application should be complete in all respects and must be submitted as early as possible. The data provided in the application should be quickly verifiable to avoid any delays.

Note: SINGA applications are completely online and any hard copies sent are not entertained by the authorities.


Selection Process

The selection for SINGA is based on the applicant's academic record, previous research conducted and papers published, participation in co-curricular activities and zeal to study and use that study towards the benefit of self and society.

Along with these, the LOR will play a vital role in selection.

The short-listed candidates are informed within 12 weeks from the date of closing of application through an email.

Note: The interview may be taken in person or electronically before the finalization of the recipient.


Grant Details

The Singapore International Graduate Award is designed for doctorate students who want to study in Singapore and pursue research in the fields of Biomedical Sciences; and Physical Science and Engineering.

  • The applicants require strong academic records, specified research areas, good knowledge of their research project and good command over the English language.
  • The applications are made online and the award covers almost all the expenses of the applicant during the study period.

The award provides support for up to 4 years of Ph.D. studies including:

  • Tuition fees
  • Monthly stipend of S$2,000, which will be increased to S$2,500 after the passing of the Qualifying Examination
  • One-time airfare grant of up to S$1,500
  • One-time settling-in allowance of S$1,000

Terms and Conditions Regarding SINGA :

  • The recipient cannot avail of any other scholarship or grant along with SINGA.
  • International recipients must be in a 2-year service in Singapore-based companies without commitment to any specific organization.
  • The area of work should preferably be in Biomedical Sciences, Physical Sciences or Engineering.
