SOP Sample for Design

When I was young, I saw my father make architectural designs and deal with clients on the phone. At home, he would make 3-D sketches of rooms and mark the accessories that would make them attractive. His drawers were always full of these sketches and drawings. I would look at them trying to figure out what he was making. Over the years, my interest developed in Interior Design. This inspired me to search about the field and its regularities which further motivated me to pursue BA in Interior Design at XYZ University.

During my undergraduate studies, I came across a wide variety of subjects exploring the technicalities of the Interior Design field, such as Furniture Design, Design Execution Drawing, Presentation Techniques, etc. Through these courses, I developed a strong foundation in design methods, creative thinking, and presentation skills, which, I believe, would serve as a solid base in my M.Des. Interior Designing program at ABC University. Moreover, I participated in the National Design Competition held annually by the Central Government of India to encourage young talents. My hard work and skills paid off as I proudly secured the third position which further qualified me for a 50% scholarship at ABC University.

After graduation, I got the prestigious opportunity to work for Kensler, a renowned Interior design firm that got me in touch with some of the top Interior designers in the world. There, I was hired as an Assistant Interior Designer. The job position required me to interact with the Interior Designing team and develop drawings, models, and images related to the design. I remember preparing the designs for a leading FinTech Company in my initial years. After serving the firm for almost around 3 years at Kensler, I finally resigned, leaving with a lot of experience, industrial exposure, and team-building skills, in order to pursue post graduation.

During my final years at Kensler, I realised that I need to take on more responsibility and challenging roles in this field in order to achieve my goals. In the short term, my goal is to pursue a career in Interior design. I am particularly interested in exploring the educational areas of Designing and Architecture as I believe I can excel in these streams. My long-term goal is to open my own Interior Design firm with my father and contribute to the growth and success of our Design firm, striving to position it as one of the top Interior design firms in India. With the solid theoretical foundation, practical skills, and international perspective gained from ABC University, I am confident in my ability to make a meaningful contribution to the field and effect positive change. Engaging in advanced studies in Interior and Architectural Design fields will also provide excellent preparation for diverse career paths, including academia and business.

I am interested in pursuing M.Des. Interior Designing program at ABC University based on the numerous exceptional opportunities it offers. The institution serves as a home to various research centres focused on areas such as Production Designing, Architectural Technology, Institutional Interior, Exhibition Design, Commercial interior design, etc. Throughout the year, each research centre organised seminars and workshops open to all postgraduate students. Furthermore, the institution arranges for annual lectures delivered by the leading personalities of the Design field. By pursuing M.Des. Interior Designing I am confident that I will gain comprehensive knowledge of architecture, Design, and Presentation, and be equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to excel in my chosen career path. I look forward to being an active participant in the vibrant academic environment and contributing to the scholarly community at ABC University.
