Cardiff Metropolitan University vs Peer Universities
Peer set draws from other public post-1992 UK universities and one higher-tier neighbour to anchor the fee and rank benchmark.
| University | QS World Rank 2027 | UK Rank (CUG 2027) | PG Fee (GBP / INR lakh) | Differentiator |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Cardiff Metropolitan University | Not ranked | #72 | 17,600 / 22.61 lakh | Top 15 globally for international student support |
| University of South Wales | Not ranked | #118 | 15,600 / 20.04 lakh | Lower fees, industry-linked cyber and film courses |
| Swansea University | #307 | #37 | 20,650 / 26.52 lakh | Russell-adjacent research, beachfront campus |
| Cardiff University | #186 | #25 | 25,450 / 32.69 lakh | Russell Group research intensive |
| Bangor University | #601 | #63 | 18,500 / 23.76 lakh | Strong marine science and psychology |
Cardiff Met stands out on affordability plus a documented 96.3% graduate outcomes rate. It trails Cardiff University and Swansea on research prestige, so applicants targeting PhD pathways should weigh the trade-off.
Cardiff Met fits Indian students seeking a one-year masters at INR 22 to 25 lakh in tuition with a real employment payoff — the 96.3% outcome rate and the two-year Graduate Route in the United Kingdom mean fees are recoverable within two to three years of UK work at the GBP 27,000 to 32,000 graduate salary band. TEF Silver teaching, IELTS 6.0 flexibility and MBA scholarships up to GBP 4,000 sharpen the case.
It is not for applicants chasing a top-200 QS badge for loan eligibility or brand recognition in India — Swansea or Cardiff University sit closer to that need, at 20% to 40% higher fees. Choose Cardiff Met when career outcomes and cost matter more than global ranking.
Cardiff Metropolitan University FAQs
Ques. Does Cardiff Metropolitan University accept a Medium of Instruction letter instead of IELTS?
Ans. Yes, Cardiff Met considers a Medium of Instruction letter from an Indian university where the bachelor’s degree was taught and examined in English as an alternative to IELTS on most postgraduate taught programmes. The letter must be on institutional letterhead, signed by the registrar, and confirm both the medium of teaching and assessment. Nursing, health and teacher-training courses still require an English test.
Ques. How much can Indian students work part-time at Cardiff Met during term?
Ans. Indian students on a Student visa can work up to 20 hours per week during term and full-time during official university vacation periods. Cardiff has active retail, hospitality and warehouse sectors around Cardiff Central and St David’s paying GBP 11.44 to GBP 13 per hour. Cardiff Met’s Global JobShop lists on-campus roles for enrolled international students.
Ques. Is GMAT or GRE required for the Cardiff Met MBA or masters programmes?
Ans. No, Cardiff Met does not require GMAT or GRE for its MBA or any postgraduate taught programme. MBA applicants must show a bachelor’s degree plus two years of full-time work experience. MSc Data Science, Computing and Finance courses assess the bachelor’s subject and marks, not a standardised test score.
Ques. What is the application fee at Cardiff Metropolitan University for Indian students?
Ans. Cardiff Met does not charge an application fee for direct international postgraduate applications submitted through its online portal. Undergraduate applications routed through UCAS carry the standard UCAS fee of GBP 28.50 for a single choice or GBP 28.50 for up to five choices. There is no additional Cardiff Met fee at the application stage.
Ques. Which Indian banks provide education loans for Cardiff Met programmes?
Ans. HDFC Credila, Avanse, Auxilo, Prodigy Finance and ICICI Bank fund Cardiff Met programmes under their UK loan schemes. Since Cardiff Met is outside the QS Top 500, SBI collateral-free loans do not apply; applicants should plan collateral-backed loans (property, FD) up to INR 40 lakh from public sector banks or unsecured private-lender loans against a strong co-applicant profile.
Ques. Can Cardiff Met students bring dependants to the UK on a Student visa?
Ans. From January 2024, only PhD, doctoral research and government-sponsored students at Cardiff Met can bring dependants on a Student visa. Masters and undergraduate students cannot bring spouses or children under the current UK rules. Dependants of eligible students need to show additional maintenance funds of GBP 845 per month outside London for up to nine months.
Ques. How long does Cardiff Metropolitan University take to release admission decisions?
Ans. Cardiff Met typically issues postgraduate admission decisions within three to four weeks of a complete application, provided all transcripts, degree certificates, IELTS scores and reference letters are uploaded. Portfolio-based courses in design and art may take five to six weeks. Conditional offers convert to unconditional once the final degree marksheet and English test score meet the offer conditions.
Ques. Are transcripts from Indian universities accepted by Cardiff Met without WES evaluation?
Ans. Yes, Cardiff Met accepts original transcripts and degree certificates directly from recognised Indian universities without a mandatory WES or ECCTIS evaluation for admission. The university’s international team maps Indian percentage or CGPA scores against its own equivalency table. ECCTIS statements are recommended only for teacher training programmes and some regulated health courses.

Cardiff Metropolitan University Reviews

Likes
- Well organised course structure
- Labs and development kitchen facilities (a huge Food Industry centre)
- Amazing career services for CV and Cover letter help
Dislikes
- Covid batch - online classes in the same fee
- No direct placement opportunities at that time - placement needs to be secured by ourselves.
- Too many students in masters course - should have been limited to 30 or less. It was 60 in my course in that year.
Campus Life
- Unfortunately, I cannot comment on this much, as a lot of things were closed due to Covid. However, I was given the opportunity to become the course representative of my course, which was really nice. Students also have the chance to enroll in different sports clubs or other literary clubspart-time roles are also available.
- There will be a nice freshers and Cardiff Met has got a lot of international student communities based on countries and there is a huge Indian community that celebrates festivals as well.
Fees
- My total fees were 13000; however, i received £3,000 scholarship. So that was taken off from my total fees. When I accepted the offer , I needed to pay £3000 to secure my seat. Remaining fees were meant to be paid in installments.
- Second year was a placement year - this year’s fee was £1800, which I had the option to pay in 2 installments. Living expenses back then were cheap; however, I would say 500£ for rent , 150£ for food, 100£ for travel, etc. An international student can live in the UK on a budget of £1000 monthly, dependent on area living (London is very expensive).

Likes
- Campus is great with much amenities.
- Students wellbeing was taker care fantastically.
- I love the way college was organised.
Dislikes
- There was no much party places in cardiff.
- Students was mostly from out of UK.
- The college was filled with outside students.
Campus Life
Three campuses and there was most of the sports area for all the sports, and there were at least 20 events done in college by an in-house corporation ELX, and sports and annual days are common in all the colleges.
Likes
- I like there are multi-national people visiting the university.
- I like the way faculty interact with students.
- I like the environment and different cultures of the university.
Dislikes
- The only thing I don't like is academic subjects need to be added to the AI subject and there are no written exams only assignments.
Overview
I chose this university because of the culture in Wales UK with multinational people around. No racism the environment is too good. Overall experience with the university is Good.
Campus Life
Clubs were too good in Wales, when I went to university in 2020 there was COVID-19 so all my student life went with work and learning from home but overall we visited were few times but campus life is good. Coming to extracurricular activities that was the period where we were in only homes.
Overview
The city was affordable and the university fees for my course were comparatively lesser than other universities.
Fees
13000 GBP is the program fee.
