Robert Gordon University Admission Requirements for Indian Applicants 2027
RGU sets separate thresholds for undergraduate and postgraduate admission, with the postgraduate route the more common path for Indian applicants.
Robert Gordon University PG Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree: Minimum 55% overall (Second Class) from a recognised Indian university; applicants from University of Mumbai, University of Delhi, and University of Calcutta may be considered from 50%; CBCS grade point average of 6.0 or ’B’ equivalent
- English test: IELTS Academic 6.5 overall with no band below 5.5; TOEFL and PTE Academic equivalents accepted; verify component minimums at the official RGU India page
- Work experience for MBA: Three or more years of full-time professional experience preferred
- Transcript verification: Original attested transcripts and degree certificate uploaded to the application portal
Robert Gordon University UG Requirements
- Class 12: Minimum 60% overall from CBSE, ISC, or a recognised state board; West Bengal Board applicants accepted from 55%; Punjab and Haryana State Boards are not accepted for direct entry as of July 2026
- English test: IELTS Academic 6.0 overall with no band below 5.5; healthcare and pharmacy programmes require 7.0 overall
- Pathway option: International College at RGU delivers foundation and pre-masters routes for applicants who do not meet direct-entry cutoffs
Key insight: Indian applicants who scored 70% or higher in English at Class 12 from CBSE or ISC boards may qualify for an IELTS waiver on a case-by-case basis; the waiver is granted by the admissions team after review of the Class 12 mark sheet and school medium confirmation.
Robert Gordon University Acceptance Rate 2027
Robert Gordon University does not publish an official acceptance rate, and independent third-party reporting places the figure between 65% and 75% (estimated). The estimate reflects RGU’s inclusive admissions posture and its focus on professional programmes with clear industry demand.
| Cycle | Acceptance Rate | Trend |
|---|---|---|
| 2026 intake | 67% (estimated) | Stable |
| 2025 intake | 70% (estimated) | Slightly higher |
Selection is grade-driven at the postgraduate level, with the Class 12 mark sheet, bachelor’s transcripts, and English test outcome the three most-weighted inputs. RGU does not require GRE or GMAT for any Indian applicant.
Reality check: A high acceptance rate does not equal automatic entry; Indian applicants missing the 55% postgraduate cutoff or the IELTS 6.5 threshold are almost always rejected, so meeting both baselines is the single most important step.

- Career support: Study and Career Success Zone runs one-to-one CV reviews, mock interviews, and employer meet-ups throughout the academic year
- Post-study visa: UK Graduate Route permits two years of unrestricted work post-master’s for all Indian graduates
Insider note: Indian graduates of RGU energy and cyber programmes benefit from Aberdeen’s local hiring in oil, gas, and offshore renewables, but London-based finance and consulting roles typically require a strong internship record layered on top of the RGU degree.

[Source: individual university fee pages, 2026/27 published rates and market ranges]
RGU stands out on price for engineering and MBA programmes and on career links with the Aberdeen energy sector. Indian applicants with tighter budgets or a preference for applied over research-intensive teaching typically pick RGU over the older Aberdeen university across the river.
Indian applicants weighing Robert Gordon University should treat it as a strong applied-programme choice, with a total two-year investment around GBP 33,000 (INR 43.14 lakh) for a one-year MSc plus twelve months of Graduate Route job search. Median postgraduate salaries near GBP 30,000 (INR 39.22 lakh) and the UK Graduate Route visa together give a realistic three-to-four-year payback window for engineering, computing, and MBA graduates.
RGU is not the best fit for applicants targeting elite consulting, investment banking, or highly ranked research doctorates; those students should consider Russell Group universities such as Edinburgh, Glasgow, or Manchester, which carry higher fees but stronger global research recognition and denser corporate recruitment pipelines.
Robert Gordon University FAQs
Ques. Which English tests does Robert Gordon University accept besides IELTS?
Ans. RGU accepts TOEFL iBT and PTE Academic in addition to IELTS Academic for both undergraduate and postgraduate entry, with equivalent minimum scores mapped to the IELTS 6.0 undergraduate and 6.5 postgraduate benchmarks. Cambridge English C1 Advanced and C2 Proficiency are also accepted where scores meet the equivalent thresholds. Indian applicants should verify the exact component minimums on the official RGU India country page before booking a test.
Ques. Can Indian students get an IELTS waiver at Robert Gordon University?
Ans. Yes, RGU may grant an IELTS waiver to Indian applicants who scored 70% or higher in English at Class 12 from CBSE, ISC, or select recognised state boards, with the medium of instruction confirmed as English. The waiver is granted on a case-by-case basis after the admissions team reviews the Class 12 mark sheet and school confirmation letter. Applicants on pharmacy, physiotherapy, and healthcare programmes must still submit a formal IELTS score of 7.0 overall.
Ques. What is the application fee for RGU international applications?
Ans. Robert Gordon University does not charge an application fee for direct international applications to postgraduate taught programmes submitted through the RGU online portal. Undergraduate applications routed through UCAS carry the standard UCAS fee of GBP 28.50 for a single choice or GBP 30 for multiple choices in the 2026/27 cycle. There is no separate RGU admission fee at either level, though a tuition deposit is required to confirm the offer.
Ques. Which Indian state boards does Robert Gordon University accept for undergraduate entry?
Ans. RGU accepts Class 12 results from CBSE, ISC, and most Indian state boards at 60% overall, with West Bengal Board applicants accepted from 55%. As of July 2026, Punjab and Haryana State Boards are no longer accepted for direct undergraduate entry, and applicants from those boards must complete a foundation year at the International College at RGU delivered by Navitas. All applicants must also meet the English language requirement or qualify for an IELTS waiver.
Ques. Are RGU degrees recognised for Indian education loan approval?
Ans. Yes, Robert Gordon University appears on the approved international university lists of major Indian public and private lenders, including State Bank of India, Punjab National Bank, HDFC Credila, and Avanse. Loan sanction amounts typically cover the full tuition plus living expenses up to INR 60 lakh without collateral for eligible applicants. Indian applicants should share the RGU offer letter and CAS number when submitting the loan application.
Ques. Can RGU students work part-time during their studies?
Ans. Indian students on a UK Student Visa at RGU can work up to 20 hours per week during term time and full-time during official university vacations. Roles are commonly available in Aberdeen retail, hospitality, and on-campus roles through the RGU Union Jobshop. Doctoral researchers and pathway students on ICRGU visas follow different work-hour rules, so applicants should confirm entitlement on the Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies before accepting employment.
Ques. Does Robert Gordon University offer online postgraduate degrees to Indian students?
Ans. Yes, RGU is one of the UK’s leading providers of online postgraduate education, with more than eighty distance-learning masters in business, engineering, computing, and healthcare. Indian students can study these programmes from India at fees around 20% lower than the on-campus rate, though online degrees do not qualify for the UK Graduate Route visa. The online MBA and MSc programmes carry the same academic recognition as their on-campus equivalents.
Ques. Can dependents accompany Indian students on the RGU student visa?
Ans. UK visa rules updated in January 2024 permit dependents only for Indian students admitted to PhD, doctoral, or research masters programmes at RGU, or for government-sponsored students. Taught masters and undergraduate students at RGU cannot bring spouse or child dependents on the Student Visa. Applicants targeting the MBA or MSc taught programmes should plan accordingly if family reunification during study is important.

Overview
We all know that the UK is the hub for education and provide world-class facilities. Aberdeen, where my university is situated, hub for oil and gas industries. As I was applying for oil and gas engineering, I thought it will help me get some projects, site visits and also a job. They provide one year course which is again an advantage in terms of tuition fees and living costs.
