Aberdeen’s primary intake for Indian students is September, where most taught masters and every undergraduate course open. The January 2027 window carries a limited slate.

Planning note: The September 2026 UG and PG intakes have already closed. If you are applying now, target January 2027 PG or September 2027 for either level. Applying by 30 November 2026 for a January 2027 PG place gives Aberdeen room to issue a CAS ahead of your UK visa slot.

• Private or deemed universities: Bachelor’s at 65%.
• LLM (Law): Bachelor’s at 55%.
• Business School (MBA and MSc business): UK Honours equivalent Bachelor’s, which maps to a strong 60% or above.

• IELTS Academic: UG 6.0 overall (Writing 6.0), PG 6.5 overall (Writing 6.0).
• TOEFL iBT (pre-January 2026 format): UG 78 overall, PG confirm per programme.

University of Aberdeen IELTS Waiver for Indian Students

• Class XII English at 80%: An Indian Class XII English score of 80% from CBSE, ICSE, or a recognised state board within the last 10 years is accepted as an English qualification for undergraduate entry. The 80% English floor does not apply to MBChB Medicine or PhD entry.
• Medium of Instruction (MOI) letter: Applicants with a full Bachelor’s or Master’s taught and assessed in English at an approved Indian university can submit an official MOI letter in place of a test score. This is Aberdeen’s most-used waiver for taught PG applicants.

Insider note: The MOI waiver is decision-friendly for state and central university graduates, but Aberdeen still requires the letter on official letterhead, signed and stamped, confirming English medium across all years. Photocopies of syllabi will not clear it.

University of Aberdeen PG Programs and English Scores

Aberdeen’s taught masters run for 12 months full-time and open primarily in September, with select programmes taking a January cohort. Base tuition sits between £11,100 and £31,000 (₹14.33 to ₹40.03 Lakhs) per year for taught PG, with Business School and engineering programmes at the upper end. University of Aberdeen UG Programs and Class XII Cut-offs

Aberdeen’s undergraduate degrees run four years for a Scottish Honours track and five years for MBChB Medicine. University of Aberdeen MBA Admission

The Aberdeen MBA sits inside the Business School and opens in September only. It is a 12-month full-time programme aimed at applicants with 3 years or more of professional experience. Base tuition sits at the top of the taught PG band, close to £29,000 to £31,000 (₹37.45 to ₹40.03 Lakhs) per year, subject to the current fee year. There is no GMAT wall for most Indian applicants who bring a strong Bachelor’s plus quality work experience, but the admissions team can request a GMAT or GRE score if the transcript signal is thin.

The stated minimum is 3 years post-Bachelor’s experience. In practice, Indian applicants admitted to recent cohorts trend toward 4 to 6 years across consulting, energy, IT services, and banking. A Bachelor’s below 60% can still surface if experience is unusually strong.

Shortlisted applicants are invited to a video interview with the MBA director, usually within 3 weeks of a completed file. Questions test career motivation, energy-transition awareness, and reasons for Aberdeen over other UK MBAs.

Aberdeen runs PhD admissions on a rolling basis, so there is no single deadline for the year. Applications go through the Direct Applicant portal and require a supervisor match before you file. Most PhD offers are conditional on English proof and a research proposal accepted by the intended supervisor.

Full stipend routes for Indian applicants include UKRI-linked studentships (through CDT calls in energy and health), school-level fee waivers, and the Chevening pathway for a top-up masters year. Aberdeen also runs its Aberdeen Global scholarship at £8,000 (₹10.33 Lakhs) a year for high-scoring PG applicants that PhD candidates can hold for the first-year fee. University of Aberdeen Application Process on UCAS and PGAP

Aberdeen splits application intake by level. Undergraduate courses go through UCAS, which opened submissions for the 2027 cycle on 1 September 2026. Postgraduate courses go through Aberdeen’s Direct Applicant portal at abdn.ac.uk/apply for start dates from January 2027 onward. The full route for Indian applicants:

1. Undergraduate: Register on UCAS (the 2027 cycle opened 12 May 2026, submissions from 1 September 2026), select Aberdeen as one of up to five choices, and pay the UCAS application fee of £34.50 (₹4,455) covering all choices.
2. Postgraduate: Create a Direct Applicant portal account, pick your programme, and submit. There is no application fee for direct PG submissions.
3. Upload transcripts, degree certificate (or provisional letter), CV, statement of intent, and two academic references.
4. Upload the IELTS or PTE result, or the MOI letter or Class XII English 80% mark if you qualify for a waiver.
5. Wait 4 to 8 weeks for a decision. Aberdeen turns most PG offers within 6 weeks in the September rush, faster off-peak.
6. On offer, accept, and pay the £5,000 (₹6.46 Lakhs) tuition deposit within 4 weeks to release the CAS.
7. Use the CAS to file the Student Route visa application at least 3 months before travel.

Insider note: The £5,000 deposit is the CAS trigger and is non-refundable outside of visa refusal. Do not accept an Aberdeen offer until your finances are ready to move within the 4-week window, or you will lose the offer.

Aberdeen Documents Required for Indian Applicants

Aberdeen’s document checklist stays consistent across taught PG and UG applications. Paperwork sits separately from the academic thresholds already covered in Eligibility. Line up scanned copies in PDF at 300 dpi before you begin the portal form.

• Valid passport bio page with at least 18 months of remaining validity.
• Class X and Class XII mark sheets, plus passing certificates.
• Bachelor’s transcripts for every semester, or consolidated mark sheet.
• Bachelor’s degree certificate or provisional degree letter.
• Statement of purpose or personal statement (400 to 800 words).
• Two academic references on official letterhead, or one academic and one professional for MBA applicants.

UK Student Visa for University of Aberdeen Applicants

Indian applicants heading to Aberdeen for a course longer than 6 months apply under the UK Student Route (Student Visa), replacing the older Tier 4. Once Aberdeen releases your CAS (Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies) after you pay the £5,000 (₹6.46 Lakhs) tuition deposit, you have up to 6 months to enter the UK before your course start date. The application is filed online at gov.uk with a VFS Global biometric appointment in India.

The core visa file needs the CAS, the Aberdeen offer letter, Academic Technology Approval Scheme (ATAS) clearance for select engineering and science courses, passport, IELTS or MOI proof, and 28 days of maintenance funds. Maintenance for a course outside London (Aberdeen counts as outside) sits at £1,023 (₹1.32 Lakhs) per month for up to 9 months, bringing the maintenance floor to about £9,207 (₹11.89 Lakhs) plus first-year tuition minus any deposit paid. 2026 update: The UK Graduate Route continues to offer 2 years of post-study work (3 for PhD graduates) for Indian students finishing at Aberdeen, and it does not need employer sponsorship at application. Post-study work rights should be checked against the latest gov.uk guidance, since they have been under review.
