University of St Andrews Application Deadlines

For admission into the undergraduate program, the application deadlines are the same for all courses except for medicine.

Thousands of applicants apply to the St Andrews Undergraduate program every year. There are four faculties for the Undergraduate program- Arts, Science, Divinity, and Medicine.

Admission Requirements: Applicants must take note of the following requirements for admission into the undergraduate program

  • Applicants must submit a personal statement detailing why they want to apply for the course.
  • An up-to-date official transcript showing the subjects that had been studied in high school. If the transcript is not in English, it must be sent along with the translated transcript.
  • An evaluation of the applicant’s character and academic ability by a teacher or a high school counselor must also be submitted.
  • The references should be in the form of a letter and must be signed by the referee.
  • Applicants can also use the referee report form available on the official site in the form of a pdf.
  • In case the applicant has taken any external tests like SAT, ACT, APS, the university recommends the students to send in the scores too. The college board reference number for these tests are as follows-
    • 7775 for SAT and AP
    • 5316 for ACT
  • Applicants must also submit their proof of English proficiency to the university
  • The applicant must not send any other information other than the documents stated above. If the university requires more documents, they will contact you through email.

University of St Andrews Postgraduate Admissions

The graduate program at the University of St Andrews offers two categories of study- taught programs and research programs. Each of the master’s program varies in length, assessment methods and final qualification outcome.

Postgraduate Taught Program Admission Requirements: 

The following are the admission requirements for applying for the taught graduate program at the university.

  • All applications must be submitted through the online form. Applicants must submit the supplementary documents required by the university in the relevant section of the online application form.
  • Applicants must submit the CV or the resume, stating all personal details, previous degrees, and employment to date.
  • A personal statement or a sample of academic writing in English is required for some graduate programs.
  • The sample of academic written work can be a part of your undergraduate course or from a project previously worked upon
  • On failing to produce any written work, the applicant can contact the appropriate school directly
  • Up to date official transcripts and degree certificates have to be submitted. The admission offices don’t ask for the original transcripts as they cannot be returned to the applicant.
  • Two original signed references will also have to be submitted.
  • The referees must include the full name and proposed a program of study of the applicant.
  • For applicants who cannot produce two academic references, one employment and one educational reference will work too.
  • When applying for more than one program, references will be required for each program
  • If English is not the first language of the applicant, then submission of proof of proficiency in the English language is a must.
  • GRE/GMAT scores are not required

Postgraduate Research Program Admission Requirements:

Before applying for a research program, ensure that you meet all the entry requirements which are mentioned below:

  • The research students do not have a provision to directly apply to a program of study. One must contact a supervisor to make the first move. Thus, it’s important to find out if the university has any supervisor in the area you want to research on.
  • Applicants applying for MFA, MRes or MPhil programs are not required to contact any supervisor before applying.
  • Admission to research programs in the faculties of Arts and Divinity is simply based on the grades of a Master's degree. However, research in science requires a first-class degree in Masters.
  • Applicants must submit their resume or CV
  • A research proposal
  • A sample of academic written work in English in around 500 words for most of the courses. However, research in the faculty of science is not required to submit this.
  • Two original signed academic references from teachers/mentors.
  • Official academic transcripts and degree certificates of the applicant
  • The applicant must also submit proof of English proficiency in case English is not their first language
