ADBU B.Tech Lateral FAQs
Ques. What is the difference between B.Tech ECE regular and B.Tech ECE Lateral Entry at ADBU? Which is better?
Ans. The B.Tech ECE regular programme is a 4-year (8-semester) programme starting from Semester 1, open to Class XII (PCM) students. The B.Tech ECE Lateral Entry programme allows Diploma holders and B.Sc. (PCM) graduates to join directly into Semester 3, completing the degree in 3 years (6 semesters). Both programmes lead to the same B.Tech degree from ADBU. Lateral entry is ideal for students who have already completed a Diploma in ECE or a related branch and want to upgrade to a full B.Tech degree without repeating the first two years. The curriculum from Semester 3 onwards is identical for both regular and lateral entry students.
Ques. Can a Diploma holder from a non-ECE branch apply for B.Tech ECE Lateral Entry at ADBU?
Ans. Yes. ADBU's lateral entry eligibility states that candidates must have passed a Diploma examination in Engineering and Technology with at least 60% marks in ANY branch from an AICTE-approved Polytechnic. This means diploma holders from branches like Civil, Mechanical, Computer Science, Electrical, or any other engineering branch are eligible to apply for B.Tech ECE Lateral Entry. However, since the ECE curriculum from Semester 3 is subject-specific, students from non-ECE diploma backgrounds may need to put in extra effort to bridge the knowledge gap in the initial semesters.
Ques. How many seats are available for B.Tech ECE Lateral Entry at ADBU?
Ans. ADBU does not publish a fixed number of seats specifically for lateral entry. The official policy states that lateral entry seats are limited and subject to availability after first-year vacancies are filled. The total intake for B.Tech ECE (regular) is 30 seats. Lateral entry seats are carved out from the overall programme capacity. Students are strongly advised to apply early to secure a seat, as lateral entry admissions are conducted on a rolling basis and seats can fill up quickly.
Ques. Is the B.Tech ECE Lateral Entry programme at ADBU AICTE approved?
Ans. Yes, the B.Tech ECE programme at ADBU is AICTE approved. The lateral entry route is a standard AICTE-recognised pathway for Diploma holders and B.Sc. graduates to join B.Tech programmes directly in the second year (Semester 3). The AICTE approval for ADBU's B.Tech programmes was extended via AICTE Letter F.No. Eastern/1-43657771725/2024/EOA dated May 21, 2024. The degree awarded on completion is a full B.Tech degree from Assam Don Bosco University, which is a UGC-recognised, NAAC A-grade accredited university.
Ques. What are the career opportunities after completing B.Tech ECE from ADBU through lateral entry?
Ans. Graduates of B.Tech ECE from ADBU (including lateral entry) can pursue careers in telecommunications companies, semiconductor and VLSI design firms, embedded systems and IoT companies, defence and aerospace organisations (DRDO, ISRO, HAL), and IT companies. The curriculum's focus on VLSI Design, Digital Signal Processing, Embedded Systems, and Mobile Communication aligns well with industry requirements. Graduates can also pursue M.Tech or MBA programmes for higher studies. The university's placement cell actively facilitates campus placements, and the Azara Campus location in Guwahati provides good connectivity to industry partners in the Northeast and beyond.
Ques. What is the hostel arrangement for B.Tech ECE Lateral Entry students at ADBU? Is it at Azara or Tapesia Campus?
Ans. B.Tech ECE is offered at the Azara Campus (Airport Road, Guwahati), not the Tapesia Campus. The Azara Campus has hostel facilities where the fees are inclusive of both room charges and food at the Campus Canteen, at Rs. 33,000 per semester (plus a one-time admission fee of Rs. 1,000 and refundable caution deposit of Rs. 5,000). This is different from the Tapesia Campus hostel, which covers accommodation only. Hostel is optional and not mandatory. Students who prefer to stay off-campus can find PG accommodations near the Azara area at reasonable rates.
