ADBU B.Tech {Lateral} Mechanical Engineering: Fees 2026, Course Duration, Dates, Eligibility

Ans. The B.Tech Mechanical Engineering regular programme is a 4-year (8-semester) programme starting from Semester 1, open to Class XII (PCM) students. The Lateral Entry programme allows Diploma holders and B.Sc. (PCM) graduates to join directly into Semester 3, completing the degree in 3 years (6 semesters). Both lead to the same B.Tech degree from ADBU. Lateral entry is ideal for students who have already completed a Diploma in Mechanical or any other engineering branch and want to upgrade to a full B.Tech degree without repeating the first two years. The curriculum from Semester 3 onwards is identical for both regular and lateral entry students.

Ans. Yes. ADBU's lateral entry eligibility allows candidates who have passed a Diploma in ANY branch of Engineering and Technology with at least 60% marks from an AICTE-approved Polytechnic to apply for B.Tech Mechanical Engineering Lateral Entry. However, since the Mechanical Engineering curriculum from Semester 3 includes subject-specific courses like Theory of Machines, Thermodynamics, and Fluid Mechanics, students from non-Mechanical diploma backgrounds may need to put in extra effort to bridge the knowledge gap in the initial semesters.

Ans. The Department of Mechanical Engineering at ADBU has 13 full-fledged, well-equipped labs including an ISO 9001:2015 certified workshop, a CNC lab with 2-axis, 3-axis, and 4-axis Lathe and Milling machines as well as a Robotic arm. An exclusive Royal Enfield training centre is established within the School of Technology, providing students with direct automotive industry exposure. The department also conducts regular industrial visits, including to the Technical Innovation Hub at IIT Guwahati, and has an active MoU with Kuber Techno Craft (KTC) for industry collaboration. A 15-day skill development training programme for polytechnic students was also conducted in January 2026, reflecting the department's strong industry linkages.

Ans. ADBU's Mechanical Engineering department has a placement cell that facilitates campus placements. The Azara Campus has hostel facilities with fees inclusive of room charges and food at the Campus Canteen, at Rs. 33,000 per semester (plus a one-time admission fee of Rs. 1,000 and refundable caution deposit of Rs. 5,000).
