Should you pick MA Economics at ADBU?
This course suits students with an Economics degree who plan on teaching, research or the NET exam.
Pick it if:
You want to work in development or social research: three MA students joined PRASARI through the 2026 campus drive, and one joined Talent Acquaintance.
You plan to teach in a college: three current MA students and several alumni cleared UGC-NET in Jun 2026, as the department notice lists.
You want a banking or insurance job: the department offers a Bajaj Finserv certificate course in banking, finance and insurance next to the MA.
Your degree result is not out yet: you can still join on a provisional seat and show the result within three months of classes starting.
Skip it if:
You are counting on a campus job with a big package: only 15% of PG graduates were placed, at a median pay of INR 3.36 LPA.
You want meals included in the hostel fee: the Tapesia hostel fee covers only the room, so you pay for food at the food court.
You want internships in the city: the Tapesia campus is outside Guwahati near Sonapur, so the department and placement cell bring most job contacts.
Your degree is in another subject: the prospectus asks for a degree in Economics, so check with the Admission Office before you pay the form fee.
Counsellor's advice
If you have an Economics degree with 50% and plan on NET, research or teaching, take this seat. If you need a campus job soon, ask the department for its placement list before you pay.

In short
USTM costs INR 34,000 more, but more of its PG graduates were placed in its latest data. If a campus job matters most, look at USTM; if the fee matters most, ADBU is the cheaper seat.
In short
RGU costs INR 64,000 more and placed a bigger share of its PG batch. If you can pay more for a stronger placement record, consider RGU; if you plan on NET or research on a smaller fee, take the ADBU seat.
In short
GCU is INR 27,000 cheaper but gives no placement figures to compare. If the fee is your main worry, look at GCU; if you want the NET results and campus offers this page lists, take ADBU.
In short
AdtU does not publish its MA Economics fee, but its PG batch was placed most often, at INR 6.5 LPA. If a campus job is your top goal, ask AdtU for its fee; if not, the known ADBU fee is the simpler choice.
Fees and pay can change. Check each college site before you decide.
FAQs on ADBU MA Economics
Straight answers to what students ask before they decide.
Is MA Economics at ADBU worth the fee?▾
Yes, if you plan on teaching, research or the NET exam. The full fee without hostel is INR 1.76 Lakhs for two years. Campus pay is modest: the median for all PG courses was INR 3.36 LPA. If a campus job is your main goal, ask the department for its placement list before you pay.
What job can I get after this course?▾
Most jobs come from banks, insurance firms, research groups and development organisations. In the 2026 campus drive, three MA students joined PRASARI and one joined Talent Acquaintance. Many graduates also take UGC-NET to teach in colleges. Take the Bajaj Finserv banking course in the department to add a skill a bank looks for.
Is this course good for UGC-NET and a PhD?▾
Yes, this is one of its strengths. Three current MA students and several alumni cleared UGC-NET in Jun 2026, and the department offers its own PhD in Economics. The dissertation in semesters 3 and 4 gives you research practice. Start NET preparation in the second year, next to the dissertation.
Who should not take this course here?▾
Skip it if you want a big campus package soon after the course. The median for all PG courses was INR 3.36 LPA, and 15% of PG graduates were placed through campus. Skip it too if your degree is in another subject, because the prospectus asks for Economics. Pick it if teaching, research or a NET plan matters more to you.
Should I take it if my degree is not in Economics?▾
Ask first. The prospectus asks for a degree in Economics with 50% marks, so a different subject may not qualify. A background in Statistics or Maths helps in the interview. Call or write to the Admission Office before you pay the INR 600 form fee.
Is the 15% placement figure a reason to skip it?▾
Not on its own. That 15% covers all two-year PG courses at ADBU, not just this MA, and 30 graduates went on to higher studies instead. If you want a campus job fast, a course with a bigger placement record may suit you better. If you want teaching or research, the figure matters less.
Should I take the hostel or stay outside?▾
Take the hostel if you come from outside Guwahati. The Tapesia campus is outside the city near Sonapur, and the room costs INR 14,000 a semester. Meals are not included, so plan for food court costs on top. Book the room right after you pay the first semester fee.
Should I wait a year and apply to a better college?▾
Only if you already have a clear seat elsewhere in mind. ADBU takes students on marks and an interview, not a rank, so waiting does not raise your chances here. The form closes when the seats fill, so if this course fits your plan, apply when the form opens in May 2027.
Can I get a scholarship on this course?▾
Yes, if your marks or family income fit a scheme. A 90% degree score brings INR 68,000 over the course and an 80% score brings INR 44,000. Families earning under INR 2 Lakhs a year can get the means scholarship of INR 40,000. Ask for the merit award on the day you take admission, because it goes first come, first served.
How do I get admission to MA Economics at ADBU?▾
Apply online on the ADBU portal and pay the INR 600 form fee. The Admission Office then gives you a date for the test and interview, both on the same day. If you get the seat, pay the admission fee by 5 pm that day and the rest within 7 days, or you lose the seat.
Can I pay the fee in parts?▾
Yes. You pay the fee in four parts, one each semester, in Jul and Jan. The first part is the largest because it carries the admission fee and the caution deposit. Pay online by UPI or NEFT, because cash and cheques are not taken.
Do I get the fee back if I leave?▾
Only if you leave before classes start. In that case the university returns all fees except INR 1,000. After classes start, it does not refund the fee. The caution deposit of INR 10,000 comes back when you finish the course, after any dues are cut.
EFLU offers a flexible choice-based credit system, allowing students to select core, interdisciplinary, and multidisciplinary courses, including mandatory SWAYAM online courses. A strict 70% attendance is required for exam eligibility, with exceptions possible for medical reasons. The university facilitates placements through a dedicated cell, organizing a drive in November. The first semester's fees total Rs. 56,000, including an admission fee of Rs. 18,000, a refundable deposit of Rs. 10,000, and a tuition fee of Rs.
28,000. Subsequent semesters are Rs. 43,000 combined for the second and third semesters, and Rs. 28,000 for the fourth. Hostel fees are Rs. 14,000 per semester, with an additional Rs. 6,000 deposit in the first semester. The campus lacks dining facilities, so students buy food on-site, with transportation to the highway costing Rs. 10. Cooking in hostels incurs fines, and students often purchase water due to poor quality. Scholarships are merit-based, rewarding top performers and those significantly improving their GPA.
Fees are uniform across all student categories. USTM and Royal Global University are more costly alternatives.
