Assam Don Bosco University Ph.D. Admission Guidelines

Admission to its Ph.D. course is based on the candidate’s performance in the Written Examination conducted by the institute.

 Don Bosco University - 'Aptitude for Research' Test aims to test candidates’ English comprehension, logical and analytical ability, and awareness of research in their chosen area of study. The entrance test will not be mandatory for applicants who are

• Awarded fellowship by UGC for a recognized national level examination
• Has at least one year of research experience in any reputed research laboratory/ university/institute
• Has specialized knowledge in the concerned field of study or at least seven years teaching or administration/management experience after Masters Degree.
• Is currently a teacher at the university. 

Candidates clearing the cut off of the examination are called for a personal interview round. Admissions are offered on the basis of the candidate’s performance in both rounds.

How to Apply?

• Aspirants can log in to ADBU official admission portal, web address given at the top. 
• On successful registration, the university sends a verification mail to the provided email ID.
• Candidates can complete the admission process by paying INR: 1000/- online. 
• Any non-paid application will be automatically considered incomplete and hence shall not be eligible for the entrance test. Kindly note to complete all the admission procedures before the notified period.

Assam Don Bosco University Ph.D. Course Details

• The institute offers Ph.D. programs specialized across 25 streams. Candidates who are admitted for the course are supposed to attend and complete mandatory course work for one semester (6 months). No exemptions are appreciated for not completing the course work. Candidates who fail to complete the course work in one semester are provided with a chance to complete the same in the consecutive semester. After two failed attempts, candidates have to go through fresh application formalities to complete the course. Only students with a CGPA of 6.0 in the course are allowed to continue the course.
• The candidates are supposed to pursue research at the university for not less than two years from the date of their Ph. D registration with the university. Only then, he/she is eligible to submit the final thesis. Also, the candidates are recommended to complete the Ph. D program within five years from the date of registration. Candidates who are pursuing Ph. D in ADBU are also supposed to prepare and submit at least two research papers in peer-reviewed journals prior to the submission of his/her doctoral thesis along with acceptable proofs and references supporting the authenticity of the work.
• The Ph. D degree shall be awarded to candidates exclusively on the quality evaluation of his/her thesis by delegates and a viva-voce examination. Quality of the thesis is evaluated on the grounds of the candidate's caliber for critical examination of ideas, the ideas being original, and his/her capacity to judge. The thesis can either be the discovery of a new fact or a fresh approach or interpretation of an already existing fact. However, candidates are required to submit authentic references for both. 
• Candidates who fail to complete the course in an expected time period of five years shall be granted extension only for inexorable reasons. Such candidates are supposed to pay a semester fee which is subscribed by the university during the year of the extension. Caution deposit shall be returned to the student only after the successful completion of the course.
