NUALS (NLU Kochi) Ph.D Law: Fees 2026, Course Duration, Dates, Eligibility

Ans. Candidates must hold an LL.M. degree from a recognized university with a minimum aggregate of 55%. For SC/ST/OBC-NCL/PwD candidates, the minimum aggregate required is 50%. Candidates who have qualified UGC-NET in Law are exempt from the written component of the DAT and are called directly for the personal interview. Part-time PhD candidates must also provide a No Objection Certificate from their current employer at the time of application.

Ans. The Departmental Admission Test (DAT) at NUALS is a two-stage selection process. The first stage is a written test with 70% weightage covering legal subjects relevant to the proposed area of research. Candidates must score a minimum of 50% in the written test to qualify for the second stage. The second stage is a personal interview carrying 30% weightage. The final merit list is prepared on the combined DAT score. UGC-NET qualified candidates skip the written test and appear only for the interview.

Candidates who wish to pursue the PhD on a part-time basis while continuing employment must submit a No Objection Certificate from their employer at the time of admission. Part-time PhD scholars are not eligible for the NUALS University Research Fellowship, which is available exclusively to full-time doctoral researchers admitted to the program.

Ans. Full-time PhD scholars at NUALS are eligible to apply for the University Research Fellowship (URF). The URF amount is determined annually by the NUALS Executive Council and varies from year to year. Additionally, candidates who have qualified UGC-NET with JRF status may receive the UGC Junior Research Fellowship as per UGC norms and procedures.
