IIM Shillong PGPM Selection Criteria 2026
IIM Shillong PGPM admission follows a two-phase process. Phase 1 shortlists candidates for Personal Interview. Phase 2 prepares the final merit list for admission offers.
- Phase 1 (Shortlisting) composite: CAT overall percentile carries 65% weight. Normalised Application Rating Score (NARS) carries 35% weight. NARS includes Class X, Class XII, graduation marks scores, and work experience months score.
- Work Experience scoring (Application Rating Score): 18 to 23 months of experience earns the maximum score of 14 points. Candidates with under 7 months or over 42 months of experience score 0. The 7 to 11-month range scores 6. The 12 to 17-month range scores 12.
- Academic diversity: IIM Shillong shortlists candidates in proportion to their academic discipline share in CAT 2026. Engineering, Commerce, Arts, Sciences, and other streams each get a proportional PI call share. This prevents any single stream from dominating the intake.
- Phase 2 (Final Merit List) weights: CAT 40%, PI 40%, Application Rating Score (ARS) 10%, Gender Score 10%.
- Female candidates receive a gender bonus score of 10 points out of the 10% gender weight. Male candidates score 0 on gender (as men are the majority CAT applicant pool). This is built into the official formula.
- PI minimum cut-off: Candidates must score at least 30% in PI (OT, EWS) or 25% (SC) or 20% (ST, DA) to be included in the merit list. Failing PI minimum disqualifies the candidate regardless of CAT score.
As per a Reddit Discussion on IIM Shillong admissions, students note that the high gender bonus and academic diversity shortlisting make non-engineering profiles (Commerce, Arts) more competitive here than at most other IIMs. Candidates with 18 to 24 months of work experience are in the sweet spot for NARS score.
Key Insight: IIM Shillong’s PGPM 2026-28 admission is closed. For PGPM 2027-29, register for CAT 2026 before September 15, 2026 and opt for IIM Shillong during registration. A CAT score without selecting IIM Shillong at registration time will disqualify you from shortlisting.
