GKU Dip Mech Engg (Lateral) FAQs
Ques. What is the difference between regular diploma and lateral entry diploma?
Ans. The lateral entry diploma is a 2-year program designed for ITI/vocational graduates, whereas the regular diploma is a 3-year program for 10th pass students. Both are equivalent qualifications. Lateral entry students skip the first year as they already possess foundational knowledge. The curriculum is industry-focused and covers advanced topics in mechanical engineering including CAD, CNC machining, thermal systems, and manufacturing processes.
Ques. What are the career prospects after completing this diploma?
Ans. Graduates can pursue multiple career paths: (1) Direct employment in manufacturing, automotive, or engineering sectors with starting salary of ₹3.5-4.5 lakhs; (2) Pursue B.Tech through lateral entry (2-year program); (3) Start own business/entrepreneurship; (4) Pursue higher certifications like GATE or professional courses; (5) Government job opportunities through SSC/UPSC exams. The diploma is recognized nationally and opens doors to both private and public sector employment.
Ques. Is the total fee of ₹1.97 lakhs inclusive of all charges, or are there additional costs?
Ans. The ₹1.97 lakhs covers tuition, laboratory, examination, library, and infrastructure fees. Additional costs may include: hostel fees (₹40,000-60,000 per year if applicable), books and study materials (₹8,000-10,000), uniform and ID card (₹2,000), and miscellaneous charges (₹3,000-5,000). Scholarships can significantly reduce the financial burden. We recommend contacting the admissions office for a detailed cost breakdown based on your category.
Ques. What is the placement guarantee, and what if I don't get placed?
Ans. While we have a 92% placement rate, we don't offer 100% placement guarantee as it depends on individual performance and market conditions. However, our placement cell provides: continuous support even after graduation, alumni network assistance, entrepreneurship guidance, and higher education counseling. Students who don't get placed immediately are encouraged to pursue higher education or skill development programs. We maintain lifelong placement support for our alumni.
Ques. What is the admission process timeline, and when should I apply?
Ans. The application window for 2026-27 is January-June 2026. Merit lists are released in July, followed by counseling in July-August. Classes commence in August 2026. We recommend applying by May 2026 to ensure smooth processing. Late applications are accepted until September 2026, but seat availability may be limited. Early applicants get priority in choice filling during counseling.
Ques. How much industry exposure and practical training will I receive during the course?
Ans. Our curriculum emphasizes 40% practical and 60% theoretical content. Students receive: (1) Hands-on training in well-equipped labs with CNC machines, CAD software, and testing equipment; (2) Mandatory 6-week internship during the course with leading companies; (3) Industry visits and guest lectures by professionals; (4) Project-based learning with real-world problems; (5) Certification courses in AutoCAD, CATIA, and welding; (6) Participation in technical competitions and exhibitions. This ensures students are job-ready upon graduation with practical skills valued by employers.
