JNU Jaipur M.Sc FAQs

Ques. Can a B.Sc graduate without Hons. apply for M.Sc Agriculture at JNU Jaipur?

Ans. JNU Jaipur’s M.Sc Agriculture eligibility states B.Sc (Hons.) Agriculture or equivalent four-year agriculture degree as the standard requirement. Candidates with a regular three-year B.Sc in Agriculture from a recognised university may also be considered if the degree is in a relevant subject with at least 55 percent aggregate, subject to the university’s interpretation at the time of counselling. Applicants should confirm eligibility directly with the JNU School of Agriculture Sciences before applying, as ICAR-linked norms may also apply.

Ques. Why is Microbiology the most expensive M.Sc at JNU Jaipur while Botany and Chemistry are the cheapest?

Ans. Fee differences between M.Sc specialisations at JNU Jaipur reflect the lab infrastructure, consumable costs, and equipment requirements of each programme. Microbiology involves specialised biosafety cabinets, culture media, and sterilisation equipment that carry higher operational costs. Botany and Chemistry, while lab-based, use more standardised equipment with wider reuse. Agriculture specialisations carry higher fees than pure sciences partly because they include field practical charges alongside laboratory work.

Ques. Is the JNU PG Entrance Test equivalent to CUET-PG for M.Sc admission purposes?

Ans. For JNU Jaipur M.Sc admission, both CUET-PG and the JNU PG Entrance Test are accepted. The JNU PG Entrance Test is conducted by the university itself on a rolling basis from May to July 2026, while CUET-PG is taken in March. Either score qualifies for the merit list. Candidates who miss CUET-PG have a second chance through the JNU PG Entrance Test closer to the admission deadline in July.

Ques. Can M.Sc Biotechnology graduates from JNU Jaipur apply for Ph.D. programmes at central universities?

Ans. Yes. An M.Sc in Biotechnology from JNU Jaipur is awarded by a UGC-recognised private state university and meets the academic qualification requirement for Ph.D. admission at central universities, IITs, and IISERs. Admission to Ph.D. programmes depends on qualifying the relevant entrance test (GATE, CSIR-NET, ICMR-JRF, or the host institution’s test). JNU Jaipur M.Sc holders are eligible to sit for these tests and appear for Ph.D. interviews like any other M.Sc graduate.

Ques. Are there research dissertation components in all 12 M.Sc specialisations at JNU Jaipur?

Ans. Yes, a research dissertation or project is part of the M.Sc curriculum across all 12 specialisations at JNU Jaipur, typically in the third or fourth semester. The dissertation is supervised by a faculty guide from the relevant school and assessed by an external examiner. Agriculture cluster students typically conduct field-based research at the Jagatpura campus grounds, while basic science students work in departmental labs. Credit weightage varies by specialisation per the ICAR or UGC framework applicable to the school.

Ques. Is hostel accommodation guaranteed for M.Sc students at JNU Jaipur?

Ans. Hostel accommodation is available on the Jagatpura campus but is not automatically guaranteed; allocation is subject to seat availability at the time of admission. Charges range from ₹40,000 to ₹60,000 per year depending on the room type, with mess fees billed separately. Students are advised to apply for hostel accommodation during the admission process rather than after joining, as demand can exceed capacity during peak intake periods in August.
