Ques. What exactly happens after 2 years at SNU - is the transfer to ASU guaranteed?
Ans. The transfer to ASU after completing Years 1-2 at SNU is conditional, not automatic. Students must maintain a minimum GPA of 6.0 out of 10 at SNU and clear English proficiency requirements (TOEFL iBT 79 / IELTS 6.5 / PTE 58 / Duolingo 105 / Cambridge 176). If a student does not meet these requirements, they may not be able to transfer to ASU. It is important to plan for the English proficiency test well in advance, as scores must be from tests taken no longer than two years before the ASU start date.
Ques. What is the total cost of the entire 4-year program and is it worth it compared to going directly to a US university?
Ans. The SNU portion (Years 1-2) costs approximately Rs 21.8 lakhs (including hostel), while the ASU portion (Years 3-4) costs approximately USD 1,20,000 (~Rs 1 crore) including tuition and living. The total comes to roughly Rs 1.2 crore for the full program. In comparison, a full 4-year program at ASU would cost approximately USD 2,49,000 (~Rs 2 crore+). So the dual degree offers significant cost savings while still earning an ABET-accredited US degree. However, students on Reddit and forums have noted that the ASU portion alone costs around Rs 1-1.5 crore, so financial planning and education loans are essential.
Ques. Can I apply through JEE Main for this program, and what percentile is typically required?
Ans. Yes, JEE Main 2025 or 2026 scores are accepted for admission to the BS Computer Science (2+2 with ASU) program. There is no officially published minimum percentile cutoff for this program. However, since this is a premium international program with limited seats, competitive JEE Main scores improve your chances. Students with JEE Main scores above 95 percentile may also be eligible for a 50% tuition fee waiver, and those above 98 percentile may qualify for a 100% tuition fee waiver on the SNU portion.
Ques. What is the SNUSAT and APT, and how should I prepare for it?
Ans. SNUSAT (Shiv Nadar University Scholastic Aptitude Test) is an online home-proctored test consisting of Quantitative Reasoning (20 questions, 45 minutes) and Logical Reasoning (20 questions, 45 minutes). For the BS Computer Science program, students must additionally take the APT (Academic Proficiency Test) which tests Physics (20 questions, 30 minutes) and Mathematics (20 questions, 30 minutes). The SNUSAT is conducted in 6 cycles from January to July 2026. Sample questions are available on the application dashboard after completing the application and payment. Students should focus on Class 11-12 level Physics and Mathematics for the APT.
Ques. After completing the dual degree, can I work in the USA? What are the visa options?
Ans. Yes, one of the key advantages of this program is that since you earn an ABET-accredited degree from ASU (a US university), you are eligible for Optional Practical Training (OPT) in the USA for up to 3 years after graduation (standard 1 year OPT + 2 years STEM OPT extension for CS graduates). This allows you to work legally in the US for up to 3 years without requiring an H-1B visa immediately. This is a significant advantage over Indian university degrees, which do not provide this benefit.
Ques. Are scholarships available for the ASU portion of the program as well?
Ans. Scholarships offered by Shiv Nadar University (School Topper, Merit-Based, JEE Main, Need-Based, etc.) apply only to the SNU tuition fees for Years 1-2. For the ASU portion (Years 3-4), separate financial aid or scholarships from ASU may be available, but these are not guaranteed and depend on ASU's own policies. Students are advised to explore ASU's financial aid options directly. Additionally, the College Board India Scholarship (for students with exceptional SAT scores and demonstrated financial need) is awarded by the College Board and can be explored for the SNU portion.
