Should you pick BA Spanish (Hons) at Doon University?
This course suits students who want a foreign language degree and can build translation, teaching or tourism skills outside class.
Pick it if:
You are from Uttarakhand: the state list closed lower than All India, so your category can change your chance.
You want language work: Spanish is taught in the School of Languages, which has offered foreign language degrees since 2010.
You want a low fee: the full course fee is INR 1.36 Lakhs, so the EMI stays small.
Your score is near the cutoff: the All India list closed at 59, and later left over seats can help.
Skip it if:
You want campus hiring in one field: NIRF gives only overall UG4 pay, not Spanish-only placement data.
You need Spanish job training only: the course is a full BA, so literature and culture come with language study.
You need a big salary fast: the NIRF UG4 median pay is INR 4 LPA, so plan higher study too.
You cannot visit campus for counselling: admission closes only after fee payment and document check.
Counsellor's advice
If you want Spanish plus a low state university fee, keep this course high. If you need a sure job list, ask the School before paying.

FAQs on Doon University BA Spanish (Hons)
Straight answers to what students ask before they decide.
Is Doon University BA Spanish worth the fee?▾
Yes, if you want Spanish at a public university fee. The full fee without hostel is INR 1.36 Lakhs, and the EMI is INR 2,293. The NIRF UG4 median pay is INR 4 LPA. Check the fee block before you take a loan.
Should I take BA Spanish if I want language jobs?▾
Yes, if you plan to build skills outside class too. The course gives a four-year Spanish degree, and the School has taught foreign language courses since 2010. You should add translation practice, internships and certification work while you study.
Is this course good for higher studies?▾
Yes, it can fit higher studies in languages, translation or area studies. The NIRF UG4 data shows 7 students chose higher studies, so that path is common in this group. Check the course structure and keep your grades strong from first year.
Should I take it with a score near 59?▾
Do not count on 59 alone. The All India General score was 59 in the 2025 merit list, while Uttarakhand General was 53. Use the checker above for your category and keep documents ready for counselling.
Who should skip BA Spanish at Doon University?▾
Skip it if you need course-only placement data before joining. The page has overall UG4 median pay of INR 4 LPA and 53% placement, not Spanish-only pay. Ask the School about recent language roles before paying the admission fee.
Is the fee worth it against the average pay?▾
It looks manageable on cost. The fee without hostel is INR 1.36 Lakhs and the ROI tile uses INR 4 LPA, giving 294%. That does not promise a job, so still check internship support and your own language goals.
Is hostel needed for this course?▾
No, hostel is a choice, not part of the academic fee. Adding hostel lodging and utilities takes the total from INR 1.36 Lakhs to INR 1.92 Lakhs. If you live near Dehradun, compare travel cost before choosing hostel.
Can I get in without prior Spanish?▾
Yes, first-year entry does not need prior Spanish. The listed eligibility is Class 12 in any stream with 50%, or 45% for eligible Uttarakhand SC and ST students. Focus on the entrance test and the counselling documents.
How do I get admission to BA Spanish?▾
Apply online, write the Doon University Entrance Test and check the merit list. The course has 30 seats, so category list order matters. After selection, attend counselling, pay the fee and finish document check before classes start.
Can I pay the fee in parts?▾
Yes, the fee is charged semester wise. Tuition is INR 10,000 a semester and other fees are INR 7,000 a semester. Plan for eight semesters, and ask the admission desk about the exact payment window before counselling.
Which scholarship can cut the cost most?▾
The largest listed course waiver here is the Uttarakhand SC/ST fee waiver at INR 40,000. The Central Sector Scheme can add INR 36,000 for eligible students. Use the scholarship calculator and keep income and category papers ready.
What should I check before I pay the admission fee?▾
Check your merit list, category, fee head and hostel need. The seat can be lost if you miss counselling or fee payment. If you are joining for jobs, also ask the School for recent Spanish placement and internship details.
The college offers a supportive learning environment with a favorable faculty-to-student ratio, having around 6-7 professors for a class of 25 students in the Spanish course.
