WBNUJS Hostels: Students' Opinion

AI-Generated Summary based on 28 Reviews

In the first year, students are allocated to flats, accommodating more than 5, often 8 students, with shared rooms. From the second year, students can move to campus hostels, with options for double or single occupancy based on merit and rank. The hostels for both boys and girls are located within the campus. Rooms feature essential amenities like WiFi, almirahs, single-sized beds, and study tables. Capacity is available for 500 students, with local students typically not accommodated.

While there are no air-conditioned rooms, some flats have AC, and the mess is air-conditioned. The hostel food varies, decided by a student committee, and includes diverse cuisines like South Indian, Continental, and North Indian. Bathrooms are clean, with separate facilities for boys and girls, though the hostels are somewhat overcrowded and lack joint bathrooms. Seniors often secure single rooms as they progress, but first years sometimes share double-occupancy rooms with three students due to space constraints.

WBNUJS: 1 Answered Question

How is food in NLU Kolkata hostels?

SouvikStudent at NLU Kolkata

The food we get at the NLU Kolkata hostels is really good. The student body is in charge of the exceptionally successful university mess. Breakfast is laid between 8:00 am to 10:00 am, lunch is provided between 12:30 to 2:00 pm, and dinner is served between 8:00 pm to 10:00 pm. The hostel mess also serves snacks from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm.

The mess menu is reviewed regularly by the Student Mess Committee, and they take suggestions from other students as well. We have options for both vegetarian and non-vegetarian students. Some of the most common food items that are served at the hostel mess are- milk, egg, fruits, upma, sandwiches, khichdi, rice, dal, roti, aloo masala, chicken samosa, biriyani, and gajar halwa among others.

Every month, the Mess Committee organises Cultural Dinners to honour the cuisines of various states and regions in India, in addition to their regular menu. Special dinners and breakfasts are held to honour other festive occasions as well.

There is a cafe on the university campus called "Little Sisters," which offers Chinese, South Indian, and North Indian food at extremely affordable prices. It also has its own selection of snacks, drinks, and eateries.

You must not worry about the food available at NLU Kolkata hostels, as the same is of good quality.
