IIM Amritsar offers a two-year-long MBA (PGP) program. The institute follows a two-step process for MBA admissions; where the first step comprises of shortlisting the candidates for the PI-WAT on the basis of section-wise CAT score and various other components. The second stage constitutes of calculating the cumulative score for the purpose of final selection.IIM Amritsar, established in 2015 is the 15th member of the IIM family. Since its emergence, three batches have graduated from the institute. The institute attracts over 12 lac average placement and has been ranked between 26-30 among the Top Public B-Schools by the Outlook magazine.

The minimum qualifying score required for CAT is 85%ile. A merit list will be prepared as per the combined score secured by the candidate in different parameters such as- past academic performance, work experience, gender & academic diversity, and the score secured in CAT according to which a number of candidates will be called for the PI-WAT. 

The final selection will take place as per the candidate’s performance in the PI and WAT, which will carry a weightage of 25% and 10% respectively. Admission will granted on the basis of aggregate score obtained in different components. The institute provides an edge to the students when it comes to placements since the intake is quite limited.

IIM Amritsar MBA Eligibility

  • The minimum eligibility for MBA is a Bachelor’s Degree with a minimum of 50% marks [45% in case of the candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST) and Persons With Disability (PWD) categories] or equivalent from any recognized university. 
  • Candidates must possess minimum work experience of 6 months.

IIM Amritsar MBA Selection Criteria

Admission to MBA (PGP) is a two-stage selection that involves a minimum category-wise valid score in CAT followed by WAT and Personal Interview for the shortlisted candidates.

Initially, the candidates have to take the CAT exam conducted at the All India level. The candidates have to secure a minimum sectional cut off assigned for each category in order to get shortlisted for the next stage of the admission process.

Stage I: Shortlisting the candidates for PI-WAT Only those candidates who have secured the pre-determined minimum percentile score in each section and the overall score of CAT will be shortlisted for the PI-WAT round. Candidates obtaining a positive raw score in all the sections of the CAT will only be considered.

The candidate’s percentage score in 10th and 12th board exams are initially adjusted by dividing each subscore by the 90th percentile score obtained in their particular board. The same criteria is followed for calculating the score for the Bachelor’s degree.

For all the shortlisted candidates, their scores will be adjusted as per the following criteria:

The above-mentioned process facilitates the preparation of the ranking list according to which a number of candidates will be called for the PI-WAT based on the order of their rank.

Note:

  • Candidates shortlisted for PI/WAT rounds after clearing minimum requisite CAT percentile will have to appear for the Personal Interview (PI) and Written Analysis Test (WAT) conducted by the Institute. 
  • The PI (35% weightage) and WAT (15% weightage) rounds influence the scores of candidates in the final merit list. 
  • Admissions for Post Graduate Program in IIM Amritsar are done based on the ranks of students in the final merit list.

Stage II: WAT-PI

All the candidates will be required to take a WAT on a topic provided by IIM Amritsar. The Writing Analysis Test (WAT) will be conducted for a duration of 20 minutes to test the candidate’s command over the language. During the Personal Interview, the panel will evaluate the candidate’s academic background, quality of work experience and other personal traits.

Pre-PI scores and PI-WAT scores will be used cumulatively in the final phase to select the candidates for the program. The final selection will be based on the merit list which will be prepared on the basis of the following:

For the selection process, all the parameters and weights will remain uniform for all the candidates. Sufficient candidates will be shortlisted at each stage from each social category to meet the reservation requirement of each group.

Note: The following candidates will be exempted from PI-WAT round:

  • Candidates who receive a call for interview by any one or more of the IIMs located at Bangalore, Calcutta, Indore, Kozhikode or Lucknow (only for their PGP/PGPM programs) will not be required to appear for the personal interview conducted by IIM Amritsar.
  • If a candidate is shortlisted for PI/WAT by IIM Kozhikode, her/his PI/WAT score of IIM Kozhikode will be used.

Ques. Where will the classes be conducted?

Ans. The classes will be conducted in the transit campus, in the Punjab Institute of Technology building, inside Government Polytechnic Compound at Amritsar. 

The transit campus is located close to Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU) Campus. The process of setting up the permanent campus is in progress.

Ques. What is the placement rate at IIM Amritsar?

Ques. Who is eligible to take the test under the PwD category?

Ans. As per the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016 (RPwD Act 2016), persons with benchmark disabilities qualify for reservation of seats under the PwD category.

The categories of disability are:

  • Blindness and low vision,
  • Deaf and hard of hearing,
  • Locomotor disability including cerebral palsy, leprosy cured, dwarfism, acid attack victims and muscular dystrophy,
  • Autism, intellectual disability, specific learning disability, and mental illness, and
  • Multiple disabilities from amongst persons under clauses (a) to (d).
  • Other 'specified disabilities' mentioned in ‘The Schedule’ of the RPwD Act 2016
  • Candidates are advised to go through the RPwD Act 2016 carefully to ascertain if they belong to the PwD category.

    "IIM AMRITSAR"

    Great place to learn things. Excellent faculties with good knowledge on the subject. Placements are good. The institute is performing really well given that it is one of the newest iim's. The Admission process os through CAT and the interview process was smooth and it went well. Interview questions included general awareness, why mba? and work experience related questions.

    "New and Growing IIM"

    In New IIMs, its one of the best one. Good aspects include connectivity, location and the faculties and facilities they have provided. One bad thing is that it doesn't have a permanent campus but its managed quite well. Admission is taken through CAT score, and background student may be called for interview, if selected in interview he/she may get the admission letter. In new IIMs it one of the best colleges and I can refer this to everyone who doesn't get top 10 IIMs. he/she may consider this colleges.     "One of the best 3G IIMs"

    The college has a great online presence about the activities that are conducted throughout the year. The placement statistics are really great when it comes to the 3rd Generation IIMs. The brand that visits the campus is really great. Before joining the campus I also researched about the faculty and the guest lecture conducted by the college. The list of faculty visiting the campus also intrigued my interest towards joining this college.
