St Aloysius B.Com (Accounting & Tax) FAQs
Ques. Is the CA coaching integrated into the B.Com (Accounting & Tax) programme, or do I need to join a separate coaching institute?
Ans. The CA coaching is formally integrated into the B.Com (Accounting & Tax) - CA Integrated programme through an MoU with KVC Academy, a professional CA coaching institute. Classes for CA Foundation and Intermediate subjects are conducted by professionals from KVC Academy as part of the regular curriculum. However, students are still required to register independently with ICAI and appear for the CA Foundation and Intermediate examinations conducted by ICAI. The college provides the coaching support, but the CA qualification is awarded by ICAI, not the university.
Ques. What is the batch timing for this programme, and why is it in the early morning?
Ans. The B.Com (Accounting & Tax) - CA Integrated programme is offered in the 7:00 AM to 12:30 PM batch. This early morning schedule is intentional - it allows students to attend their degree classes in the morning and use the afternoon hours for self-study, CA coaching revision, or articleship-related activities. Many students find this schedule beneficial as it gives them structured time for both their degree and CA preparation without conflict.
Ques. Can students from non-commerce backgrounds (Science or Arts) apply for this programme?
Ans. Yes, students from any stream who have passed Class XII / II PUC from a recognised board are eligible to apply. However, students who have not studied Accountancy in their II PUC will be required to pay an additional fee of Rs. 4,000 for a Basic Accountancy special class conducted by the college. This bridge course helps non-commerce students get up to speed with the foundational accounting concepts required for the programme.
Ques. What is the difference between B.Com (Accounting & Tax) - CA Integrated and the regular B.Com at St Aloysius?
Ans. The B.Com (Accounting & Tax) - CA Integrated is a specialised programme where the curriculum is aligned with the CA Foundation and Intermediate syllabus of ICAI. It includes subjects like Quantitative Aptitude, Financial Accounting, Business Laws, Taxation, and Cost Accounting - all of which overlap significantly with CA exam subjects. The regular B.Com covers general commerce subjects without this CA-specific focus. The CA Integrated programme also has a higher fee (Rs. 1,00,500 per year for Karnataka students vs. Rs. 64,000 for regular B.Com) and is offered only in the 7 AM batch.
Ques. How many students get placed after completing this programme, and what kind of jobs do they get?
Ans. The School of Commerce, Finance and Accountancy reports an average placement percentage of around 75% for UG students. Recruiters include firms like Moss Adams, Wipfli, Accenture, KPMG, EY, Deloitte, Grant Thornton, TCS, and Societe Generale. Many graduates from the CA Integrated track go on to complete their CA qualification and join Big 4 accounting firms or pursue articleship. Others take up roles in accounting, finance, taxation, and audit in corporate firms. The placement data available is for the broader B.Com programme and not exclusively for the CA Integrated batch.
Ques. Is hostel accommodation available for students joining this programme, and what are the facilities?
Ans. Yes, St Aloysius (Deemed To Be University) offers on-campus hostel accommodation for both boys and girls. The hostel fee is Rs. 75,000 per year, which covers both food and accommodation. The hostel includes facilities such as a water cooler, common room, TV room, and indoor games. Since the programme has a 7 AM batch, students staying in the hostel benefit from being on campus and can easily attend early morning classes without commuting. Hostel accommodation is optional and subject to availability.
