UPUMS Campus and Infrastructure
UPUMS is situated in Saifai village, Etawah District, Uttar Pradesh, approximately 215 km from Lucknow on the Agra-Lucknow Expressway corridor. The fully residential campus houses a medical college, a postgraduate dental college, a pharmacy college, a nursing college, and a paramedical college under a single administrative unit.
The teaching hospital complex at UPUMS is among the largest in western UP. It includes a 1,050-bed multi-specialty hospital, a 150-bed trauma and burn centre, and a 528-bed super-specialty hospital - a combined capacity of over 1,700 beds. The university’s central laboratory holds NABL accreditation, supporting both clinical diagnostics and research activities. The super-specialty hospital provides clinical training exposure in complex tertiary cases, which is a distinct advantage for MD/MS residents and MBBS interns.
Separate Boys and Girls hostels are available on campus. Annual hostel charges range from INR 24,000 to 36,000. The rural setting means limited urban amenities in the immediate surroundings, but the fully residential campus provides medical and dining facilities, a library, and sports grounds. Most students and residents choose to stay in the hostel given the distance from any major city.
UPUMS vs Motilal Nehru Medical College vs BRD Medical College
Students targeting government MBBS seats in Uttar Pradesh through NEET UG often compare UPUMS Etawah with Motilal Nehru Medical College (MNNMC), Prayagraj and BRD Medical College, Gorakhpur. All three are government-funded institutions with NEET UG-based admission through UPGMEC state counselling.
| Parameter | UPUMS, Etawah | MNNMC, Prayagraj | BRD Medical College, Gorakhpur |
|---|---|---|---|
| Type | State Medical University | Govt. Medical College | Govt. Medical College |
| Established | 2005 (university status 2016) | 1961 | 1972 |
| Hospital Capacity | 1,700+ beds (three hospital units) | 1,200+ beds (SNMC Hospital) | 800+ beds |
| Admission Route | NEET UG, UPGMEC counselling | NEET UG, UPGMEC counselling | NEET UG, UPGMEC counselling |
| PG Programmes | MD (9 specialisations), MS (6), M.Ch, MDS | MD, MS | MD, MS |
| Pharmacy Faculty | B.Pharm, M.Pharm (NIRF 101-125) | Not available | Not available |
| Nursing Faculty | B.Sc Nursing, GNM, ANM | Not available (separate) | Not available (separate) |
| Location | Saifai, Etawah (rural) | Prayagraj (urban) | Gorakhpur (urban) |
UPUMS stands out for its university status, super-specialty hospital complex, and the breadth of its programme portfolio spanning pharmacy, nursing, and paramedical sciences in addition to medicine. MNNMC and BRD are older and more centrally located in established cities, which many students prefer for access to urban infrastructure. MNNMC’s location in Prayagraj with its legacy government hospital is favoured by aspirants from eastern UP. UPUMS remains the stronger choice for students interested in a broader health-sciences ecosystem on one campus.
