CSMU B.Tech Lateral FAQs
Ques. I have a diploma in Computer Science. Can I directly join the 2nd year of B.Tech. CSE at CSMU through lateral entry?
Ans. Yes, diploma holders in Computer Science & Engineering or Information Technology can apply for B.Tech. Lateral Entry in CSE at CSMU and join directly in the 2nd year. The minimum eligibility is 45% aggregate marks in the qualifying diploma examination (40% for reserved category candidates). You need a valid MHT-CET Lateral Entry score or must qualify CSMUCET. This route allows you to complete your B.Tech. in 3 years instead of 4.
Ques. What is the difference between B.Tech. Lateral Entry (CSE) and the regular 4-year B.Tech. (CSE) at CSMU in terms of fee and curriculum?
Ans. The regular B.Tech. (CSE) is a 4-year programme at Rs. 1,70,000 per annum (total Rs. 6,80,000), while the Lateral Entry programme is a 3-year programme at Rs. 1,48,000 per annum (total Rs. 4,44,000). The curriculum from the 2nd year onwards is the same for both programmes. The lateral entry route is more cost-effective and time-efficient for eligible diploma holders.
Ques. What are the career options after B.Tech. Lateral Entry (CSE) from CSMU?
Ans. Graduates of B.Tech. CSE from CSMU can pursue careers as software developers, web developers, data analysts, system administrators, network engineers, and IT consultants. The Mumbai-Navi Mumbai region has a thriving IT and tech industry with numerous companies offering employment opportunities. Graduates can also pursue M.Tech. in CSE or related specializations with a GATE score, or apply for Ph.D. programmes at CSMU or other institutions.
Ques. Is MHT-CET Lateral Entry mandatory for B.Tech. Lateral Entry (CSE) admission at CSMU?
Ans. MHT-CET Lateral Entry is not mandatory for B.Tech. Lateral Entry admission at CSMU. Candidates with a valid MHT-CET Lateral Entry score are exempted from CSMUCET. Candidates without an MHT-CET Lateral Entry score can appear for CSMUCET, the university's own entrance test. However, having an MHT-CET Lateral Entry score strengthens the application and may improve chances of admission, especially for Maharashtra-domicile candidates.
Ques. What laptop specifications are required for B.Tech. Lateral Entry (CSE) students at CSMU?
Ans. CSMU mandates that all students in the Computer Science/Engineering stream own a laptop with prescribed specifications. The university typically specifies minimum requirements such as processor speed (Intel Core i5 or equivalent), RAM (8GB minimum), storage (256GB SSD), and operating system. Students can purchase the laptop from the university-authorized vendor or from any other source meeting the specifications. It is advisable to check the latest laptop specifications with the CSMU admissions or IT department before joining.
Ques. Can I pursue M.Tech. Data Science or M.Tech. CSE at CSMU after completing B.Tech. Lateral Entry (CSE)?
Ans. Yes, after completing B.Tech. CSE through the lateral entry route at CSMU, graduates are eligible to apply for M.Tech. programmes including M.Tech. Data Science and M.Tech. CSE at CSMU. A valid GATE score (CS or DA paper) is preferred for M.Tech. admission; candidates without GATE can appear for CSMUCET. The B.Tech. degree from CSMU is recognized by UGC and AICTE, making graduates eligible for M.Tech. admissions at other institutions as well.
