LJIET BE {Lateral} (Mechanical Engineering) FAQs
Ques. Is BE {Lateral} (Mechanical Engineering) at LJIET the same as the regular BE Mechanical Engineering? What is the difference?
Ans. The BE {Lateral} program is a 3-year course for diploma holders who directly enter the 2nd year of the BE program, skipping the 1st year. The curriculum from 2nd year onwards is the same as the regular 4-year BE program. The degree awarded is identical - BE in Mechanical Engineering from GTU. The only difference is the entry point and duration.
Ques. What is the LJ Design Centre, and how does it benefit Mechanical Engineering students at LJIET?
Ans. The LJ Design Centre is a dedicated facility at LJIET that provides technical training in industry-standard mechanical design software including AutoCAD, Fusion 360, SolidWorks, and ANSYS. For Mechanical Engineering students, proficiency in these tools is highly valued by employers in the automotive, manufacturing, and aerospace sectors. The Design Centre gives LJIET students a practical edge over graduates from other GTU-affiliated colleges.
Ques. What are the career opportunities after BE {Lateral} (Mechanical Engineering) from LJIET?
Ans. Mechanical Engineering graduates from LJIET can pursue careers in Research and Development, Production Analysis and Testing, Installation and Maintenance, and Design roles. Key sectors include Automobile, Aerospace, Steel Plants, Thermal Power Plants, Shipping, Mechatronics, and Robotics. Companies like Tata Motors, Mahindra, L&T, ISRO, DRDO, and various manufacturing firms recruit Mechanical Engineering graduates. Higher studies (ME in CAD/CAM or Thermal Engineering at LJIET) or GATE-based PSU jobs are also popular options.
Ques. Does LJIET have SAE student chapter activities for Mechanical Engineering students?
Ans. Yes, LJIET has an active SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers) India student chapter. Students can participate in SAE competitions like BAJA SAE India, Formula Bharat, and other design challenges, which provide hands-on experience in vehicle design and manufacturing. The ISHRAE (Indian Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers) student chapter is also active, relevant for students interested in HVAC and thermal engineering.
Ques. Does LJIET provide hostel facilities for Mechanical Engineering lateral entry students?
Ans. LJIET does not have an on-campus hostel facility for any students, including lateral entry students. Students from outside Ahmedabad need to arrange private accommodation near the campus (Sarkhej-Sanand area). The college administration may assist with information about nearby PG accommodations on request.
Ques. After completing BE {Lateral} (Mechanical Engineering) from LJIET, can I pursue ME in CAD/CAM or Thermal Engineering at LJIET?
Ans. Yes, LJIET offers Post Graduate programs - ME in CAD/CAM and ME in Thermal Engineering. After completing BE in Mechanical Engineering, graduates are eligible to apply for these ME programs through ACPC counselling based on GATE score or through the institute's management quota. This provides a seamless academic progression path within the same campus.
