Top Colleges in Ahmedabad 2026: Fees, Ranking, Admission, Cutoff, Placement

Ans. Ahmedabad is unusual among Indian metros because most of its MBA seats never look at a CAT score at all. Only 25 of the city’s 72 MBA and PGDM colleges accept CAT, while 22 accept CMAT and 16 admit purely through Gujarat ACPC counselling. Two routes are worth planning around.

Scenario 1 — a CAT or XAT score in the 70s or low 80s. This band still reaches a private B-school with a real placement record.

Scenario 2 — a CMAT score, an ACPC rank, or no national test at all. This is where the bulk of Ahmedabad’s seats sit, and where the return on fees is highest.

A published cutoff only decides who gets shortlisted. Collegedunia’s RTI data for the IIM Ahmedabad PGP 2023-25 batch shows the gap clearly: 137909 candidates applied, 692 were shortlisted and 197 received offers, and the lowest General-category percentile actually admitted was 87.19 against a headline cutoff of 99. The weights that close the gap are published too. IIM Ahmedabad shortlists on CAT 65% plus application rating 35%, then decides on personal interview 50%, composite score 40% and the written test 10%, so CAT carries only about 26% of the final call. MICA Ahmedabad weights the entrance score 35%, MICAT 25%, interview 20%, group exercise 10% and academics and extra-curriculars 5% each. On the ACPC route at GTU Ahmedabad, Gujarat University Ahmedabad and BK School Ahmedabad there is no group discussion or interview at all — the merit rank decides.

Ans. Only one Ahmedabad school runs a classic group discussion: MICA Ahmedabad, as part of its group exercise round. IIM Ahmedabad replaced the GD with an Analytical Written Test taken on interview day, and the ACPC-counselled colleges run neither. The written test is scored on relevance 25 marks, critical thinking 25, structure 20, language 15 and conclusion 15, so a clearly argued answer beats a longer one.

Ans. Start by checking whether your target college runs one at all, because most Ahmedabad MBA seats are decided on an ACPC merit rank with no group round. The seven points below cover what each of the three formats in the city actually tests.

• Check first whether your target college has a group round at all. At GTU Ahmedabad, Gujarat University Ahmedabad, BK School Ahmedabad and Silver Oak University Ahmedabad admission is decided on the ACPC merit rank alone.
• For IIM Ahmedabad, practise writing a 300-word argued answer in 20 minutes rather than speaking. The Analytical Written Test rewards structure and a stated conclusion.
• For MICA Ahmedabad, the group exercise is a creative task, not a debate. Collegedunia marks five behaviours: initiating, negotiating, managerial framing, encouraging quieter members and closing the discussion.
• Read the Gujarat business page. Ahmedabad panels frequently open on Adani, Torrent, Amul, Zydus, GIFT City or the state’s chemical and pharma clusters, and a candidate who can name specifics stands out.
• Prepare three economy topics, three technology topics and three Gujarat-industry topics with one statistic each.
• Rehearse a 90-second answer to why an MBA, why now and why this college, since every interview in the city opens there.
• Carry your work experience into every answer. IIM Ahmedabad’s composite score and NBS Ahmedabad’s 15% academics and work-experience weight both reward it explicitly.

Ans. Entrance route. Of the 72 MBA and PGDM colleges in Ahmedabad, 25 accept CAT, 22 accept CMAT, 15 accept MAT, 9 accept XAT, 8 accept GMAT, 5 accept ATMA and 2 accept NMAT. A further 16 admit through Gujarat ACPC counselling, and three colleges run their own test — NBS Ahmedabad holds NBSAT, MICA Ahmedabad holds MICAT after the national score shortlist, and NIPER Ahmedabad admits through NIPER JEE.

ACPC Gujarat route, step by step. Register on the ACPC portal with a valid CMAT score, upload the graduation marksheet and category certificate, pay the registration fee, have the documents verified at a help centre, check the provisional and final merit lists, fill college and programme choices in preference order, accept the online seat allotment, pay the tuition fee to secure the seat, and report to the college with originals. There is no group discussion or interview anywhere in this flow.

Direct-admission route. These Ahmedabad colleges admit on graduation marks without a national entrance test.

Ans. Twenty-seven of Ahmedabad’s 35 BE and B.Tech colleges admit on GUJCET merit through ACPC, and 28 also accept JEE Main. No college in the city accepts JEE Advanced, because Ahmedabad has no IIT. The two government colleges are by far the cheapest engineering seats in the city.

Gujarat’s government engineering colleges have no management quota at all — ACPC fills 100% of the intake at LDCE Ahmedabad and VGEC Ahmedabad. The only non-ACPC seats LDCE Ahmedabad prices are supernumerary NRI and overseas seats at USD 5,000 a year. At the self-financed colleges the fee notified by the Gujarat Fee Regulatory Committee applies to the ACPC seat and the institute-level seat alike, so there is no separate management fee to compare.

Ans. Collegedunia badges only 10 Ahmedabad programmes as B.Tech Computer Science and Engineering, all of them at private institutions. The two government colleges teach the same subject as BE Computer Engineering, so they sit outside that count while running two of the four hardest computer cutoffs in the city. The table below puts both kinds of computer programme side by side, ordered by how hard the branch is to get into.

Nirma University Ahmedabad has the hardest computer branch in Ahmedabad, closing at rank 255. The government colleges are next: LDCE Ahmedabad closes computer engineering at 607 on a total fee of 8.19 K and reports a 5.00 LPA median, within one lakh of what Nirma University Ahmedabad reports on a fee 139 times larger.

Ans. Five colleges in Ahmedabad close at least one branch inside the top 10000 of the ACPC General merit list. They range from an 8.19 K government fee to a 37.41 Lakh private one.

Ans. Six colleges open their branches in this band, which is where most Ahmedabad engineering admissions are actually settled. Fees run from 2.09 Lakh to 11.02 Lakh.

Ans. Very few. ACPC counselling covers 27 of the 35 BE and B.Tech colleges in the city, and most of the rest still ask for a JEE Main score. Collegedunia lists no entrance exam for only two colleges in this set.

Everywhere else in Ahmedabad, including the private universities, admission runs through the ACPC merit rank or a JEE Main score. There is no fee-only route into an AICTE-approved engineering seat in Gujarat.

Ans. Ahmedabad’s engineering medians sit in a narrow band of 3.13 LPA to 6.01 LPA across every tier, while fees span 8.19 K to 37.41 Lakh. The table below groups the colleges that publish a median.

The pattern that matters for an Ahmedabad applicant is that fee does not track median. The two government colleges return 4.85 LPA and 5.00 LPA on fees under 15 K, while the most expensive engineering programme in the city publishes no median at all. One caveat on GTU Ahmedabad: its 3.13 LPA is the median of its own campus departments, not of the roughly 100 colleges affiliated to it, six of which appear separately on this page with their own figures.

Ans. Entrance route. Only two of Ahmedabad’s 14 LLB colleges ask for a law entrance test at all. Gujarat has no state law common entrance test — GUJCET is a science-stream engineering and pharmacy exam and does not apply to law.

Direct-admission route. The other twelve colleges admit on qualifying-examination marks with no test. Four of them are Gujarat University-affiliated and admit through GCAS, the Gujarat Common Admission Services portal. GCAS is a single application window, not an exam: a candidate registers once, pays INR 300, selects colleges in preference order, and Gujarat University prepares its own merit list from graduation marks.

Sir LA Shah Law College Ahmedabad is the cheapest law seat in the city by a wide margin and the only Ahmedabad law college besides Nirma University Ahmedabad to file its own NIRF Law submission, which reports a 1.20 LPA median for the three-year LLB across all three years surveyed.

Ans. Nirma University Ahmedabad charges INR 19.54 Lakh for its five-year B.Com and LLB (Hons.) and reports a median salary of 5.40 LPA in its NIRF 2026 Law submission, where 205 of 265 graduating students were placed. That is a return on investment of 27.64%, or roughly 3.6 years of median salary to recover the full five-year fee.

The median has risen steadily across the three years Nirma reports — 5.20 LPA in 2022-23, 5.21 LPA in 2023-24 and 5.40 LPA in 2024-25 — while the placement rate moved from 130 of 220 to 205 of 265. The Institute of Law lists DSK Legal, Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas, JSA Advocates and Solicitors, Singhania and Co and Adani Renewables among the firms that recruit on campus. The Institute of Law is Nirma University’s law school.

On pure ratio the cheapest seat wins: Sir LA Shah Law College Ahmedabad returns 740.74% on an INR 16.20 K fee against a 1.20 LPA median. The two figures answer different questions — one is the cost of entry, the other is the salary the degree commands.

Ans. Only two of the 14 LLB colleges in Ahmedabad use an entrance test, and both of those tests are national rather than Gujarat exams. The remaining twelve admit on qualifying-examination marks.

Ans. Every MBBS seat in Ahmedabad is filled from the NEET UG result, and the Gujarat state quota adds a schooling and domicile condition on top of the national criteria.

• A candidate must have completed 17 years of age on or before 31 December of the admission year.
• There is no upper age limit for NEET UG.
• Class 12 must include Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Biotechnology and English. The National Medical Commission allows these to be taken as additional subjects after Class 12.
• The qualifying NEET percentile is the 50th for General and EWS, the 45th for General-PwBD, and the 40th for OBC, SC, ST and reserved-category PwBD candidates.
• For the 85% Gujarat state quota through ACPUGMEC, a candidate must have passed both Class 10 and Class 12 from a school situated in Gujarat, and must either be born in Gujarat or hold a Gujarat domicile.
• Overseas Citizens of India are eligible for the government, management and NRI quotas, but remain bound by the same Gujarat schooling and domicile conditions.

Ans. No. NEET UG is compulsory for every MBBS seat in India, and the Admission Committee for Professional Undergraduate Medical Educational Courses states that the entire process for 100% of seats — government quota, management quota and NRI quota alike — is conducted on merit through its online system alone.

Management and NRI seats are not a separate admission. They are drawn from the same NEET-ranked category merit lists as government seats and allotted in the same rounds; only the fee column differs. Of the five Ahmedabad colleges, BJMC Ahmedabad has no management and no NRI seats at all, and GMERS Medical College Ahmedabad has 30 NRI seats but no management seats. NMMC Ahmedabad has 20 management and 30 NRI seats, NHLMMC Ahmedabad has 25 and 38, and GCS Medical College Ahmedabad has 15 and 23.

There is no admission route to an MBBS seat in Gujarat outside this process.

Ans. Only three of the five Ahmedabad colleges have management seats at all, and the Gujarat Fee Regulatory Committee notifies their rate. The table below sets it against the government-quota rate for the same seat.

Against that, the government-quota tuition notified for 2026-27 is 25.00 K a year at BJMC Ahmedabad, 3.75 Lakh at GMERS Medical College Ahmedabad, 9.30 Lakh at NHLMMC Ahmedabad, 10.91 Lakh at GCS Medical College Ahmedabad and 11.46 Lakh at NMMC Ahmedabad. Every figure in this answer is a 2026-27 rate, and the full-course column multiplies it by the four and a half academic years of the degree. At NHLMMC Ahmedabad a management seat costs about three times the government seat in the same classroom, and across the city the range runs from 1.13 Lakh to 1.30 Crore. Where NRI seats at GMERS Medical College Ahmedabad go unfilled, ACPUGMEC converts them to management seats at 12.00 Lakh a year.

On the same four-and-a-half-year basis the official government-quota totals come to 1.13 Lakh at BJMC Ahmedabad, 16.88 Lakh at GMERS Medical College Ahmedabad, 41.85 Lakh at NHLMMC Ahmedabad, 49.10 Lakh at GCS Medical College Ahmedabad and 51.57 Lakh at NMMC Ahmedabad. Collegedunia’s own total, which is the figure in the main table above, multiplies an earlier annual rate by five years instead, so the two sets of numbers will not match exactly.

Ans. Two authorities run parallel counselling on the same NEET UG result, and both held four rounds in 2026.

• All India Quota, 15%. Conducted by the Medical Counselling Committee at mcc.nic.in. In Ahmedabad this stream exists at one college only — BJMC Ahmedabad, with 37 seats. The other four colleges have no All India Quota seats.
• Gujarat state quota, 85%. Conducted by ACPUGMEC at medadmgujarat.org, covering government, management and NRI seats at every Gujarat college.

The Gujarat flow runs: register and generate a PIN, upload documents, attend help-centre verification, check the provisional and final merit lists, fill college and course choices in preference order, receive the online allotment, pay the fee at a designated bank branch, and report to the college. From Round 3 onward verification is on original documents only.

• A refundable security deposit of INR 10,000 is taken at registration and forfeited if an allotted candidate does not take up the seat. A Round 3 allottee who fails to report loses the deposit and is barred from Round 4.
• GMERS graduates sign a bond of INR 2.00 Lakh against one year of rural service. Students on the MYSY, Kanya Kelavani or freeship schemes sign a larger undertaking under the state resolution of 14 August 2019.
• Documents required include the NEET scorecard and admit card, Class 10 and Class 12 marksheets from a Gujarat school, a school leaving certificate, a domicile or birth certificate, category and non-creamy-layer certificates where applicable, and recent photographs.

Ans. MBBS is not a placement-driven degree, and the colleges’ own NIRF filings say so plainly. The column that moves is higher studies, not placement. BJMC Ahmedabad reported 248 graduates in 2022-23 of whom 70 were placed and 170 went on to further study. NHLMMC Ahmedabad reported 221 graduates, 60 placed and 140 in higher studies, and in the two years before that it reported zero placements against 141 and 66 going to higher study. NMMC Ahmedabad’s NIRF 2026 filing reports 157 graduates, zero placed and a median of zero.

That is the NEET PG queue rather than a weak outcome. Every one of the five colleges runs postgraduate programmes in the same city — 418 PG seats at BJMC Ahmedabad, 254 at NHLMMC Ahmedabad, 193 at NMMC Ahmedabad, 100 at GCS Medical College Ahmedabad and 85 at GMERS Medical College Ahmedabad.

Where a median is reported, it is 12.00 LPA at BJMC Ahmedabad and 9.00 LPA at GMERS Medical College Ahmedabad, both for 2022-23, and 8.40 LPA at NHLMMC Ahmedabad for 2021-22. Before any of that comes the compulsory rotating internship of one year, paid at the Gujarat state intern rate of INR 21,840 a month, which NMMC Ahmedabad is the only college in the city to publish on its own site.
