Binghamton University admissions run on a rolling holistic review through Common App, SUNY Application, or Coalition App for undergraduates and a direct graduate portal for master’s applicants, with a floor of Class XII at 65 percent for UG and a Bachelor’s degree at 60 percent (roughly a 3.0 GPA) for PG.

  • Fall 2027 (primary intake): UG Regular Decision closes 15 March 2027; graduate university-wide deadline is 1 April 2027.
  • Base tuition: UG international USD 28,970 (around INR 27.76 Lakhs); PG USD 23,790 to 29,340 (INR 22.79 to 28.11 Lakhs). UG application fee USD 50 (around INR 4,791); PG USD 75 (around INR 7,186).
  • Eligibility floor: UG needs Class XII 65 percent plus IELTS 6.5 (no band below 5.0) or TOEFL iBT 80; PG needs a four-year Bachelor’s at 60 percent (GPA 3.0) with the same English floor.
  • Acceptance rate: around 38.6 percent, one of the more selective SUNY campuses.

Popular Indian-applicant choices are the MS Computer Science, MS Data Analytics, and MBA at the School of Management, with reviewers on the Binghamton University page consistently flagging strong recruiter pipelines from Google, Amazon, and JPMorgan Chase.

Admission Status: Open. The Fall 2027 primary intake opened 1 August 2026 at Binghamton. The Common Application for the 2026-2027 cycle also opened 1 August 2026, and Binghamton accepts it alongside the SUNY Application and Coalition App. UG Early Action closes 1 November 2026; UG Regular Decision closes 15 March 2027; graduate university-wide close is 1 April 2027. Binghamton University Eligibility for Indian Students

Binghamton uses holistic review but publishes clear academic and English floors. Indian applicants are assessed on Class XII marks for UG and on a four-year Bachelor’s for PG (three-year Bachelor’s programs are usually reviewed only with a Master’s or verified WES evaluation).

  • UG general entry: Class XII at 65 percent or above from CBSE, ICSE, or a state board; competitive admits sit around 75 to 85 percent.
  • PG general entry: Four-year Bachelor’s at 60 percent (around 3.0 GPA); competitive admits at Watson and Data Analytics cluster near 75 percent.
  • GRE / GMAT: Waived for most PG programs; still recommended for MS Data Analytics and MS Industrial Engineering.
  • English test floors: IELTS 6.5 (no band below 5.0), TOEFL iBT 80 (or 4 on the new 2026 scale), PTE Academic 53, Duolingo 105, TOEFL Essentials 9.

Binghamton IELTS Waiver for Indian Students

Binghamton waives the English test in three cases relevant to Indian applicants: (a) UG applicants who completed four years of secondary school where English was the language of instruction (contact international@binghamton.edu with a letter from the school), (b) PG applicants with a Bachelor’s degree from an institution where English is the medium of instruction, or (c) PG applicants with two or more years of full-time study in English at an accredited institution in a waiver-eligible country. Indian CBSE, ICSE, and English-medium state-board applicants routinely qualify under route (a).

Binghamton University MBA Admissions

The School of Management MBA at Binghamton is a two-year full-time degree with fall entry only. It is a small, cohort-based program with a healthy fee-to-recruitment ratio; base tuition sits close to the graduate international range of USD 23,790 to 29,340 (INR 22.79 to 28.11 Lakhs).

Binghamton MBA Eligibility and Test Policy

  • GPA: Typical admits have 3.3 GPA or higher (around 70 to 75 percent in Indian scoring).
  • GMAT / GRE: Currently waived for most applicants; a strong GMAT (620+) still helps competitive scholarship review.
  • Work experience: Not mandatory for the full-time MBA; two years of relevant work strengthens the application.
  • English: Higher floor than the university-wide minimum — IELTS 7.0, TOEFL 96, PTE 65, Duolingo 115.
  • Interview: By invitation only, conducted virtually after transcript and essay screening.

Binghamton MBA Deadlines and Fee

Fall 2027 MBA applications opened 1 August 2026 and follow the graduate university deadline of 1 April 2027, though scholarship rounds close earlier around 15 January 2027. Application fee is USD 75 (around INR 7,186), payable on the Binghamton graduate portal. Check funding for Indian students for MBA-linked scholarships.

Binghamton University Application Process Step by Step

The application flow differs between UG and PG. Undergraduates route through a central US platform; graduates go directly through Binghamton’s grad portal. Steps below assume Fall 2027 entry.

  1. UG applicants: Create an account on the Common Application (opened 1 August 2026 for the 2026-27 cycle), SUNY Application, or Coalition Application. PG applicants: start on the Binghamton graduate portal.
  2. Complete profile, upload Class XII or Bachelor’s transcripts, and add extracurriculars, awards, and work experience.
  3. Pay the application fee — USD 50 (around INR 4,791) for UG or USD 75 (around INR 7,186) for PG — directly on the portal. Fee waivers are not available for international applicants.
  4. Upload the personal statement (two single-spaced pages for PG) and a two-page resume for PG.
  5. Register recommenders (two letters for most PG programs; three for select departments). UG applicants supply one counselor recommendation.
  6. Send IELTS or TOEFL scores directly from the testing agency and upload the score preview PDF.
  7. Submit the ISFS financial statement and bank proof (asked at admission stage for I-20 issuance).
  8. Track the application on Binghamton’s status checker; interview requests (MBA and select PG) come by email.

Binghamton University Admission Decisions Timeline

Decision speed depends on the round. UG Early Action decisions post on the applicant status checker by 15 January 2027. UG Regular Decision releases by 1 April 2027. Graduate decisions are program-specific and typically arrive four to eight weeks after the department review closes.

  • Offer letter: Issued as an unconditional or conditional (pending final transcript or English score) offer.
  • Enrollment deposit: UG admits confirm by 1 May 2027 (national US enrollment day); PG admits get a program-specific window, usually two to four weeks after the offer.
  • Deferral: One-year deferrals are considered case-by-case; contact the admissions office within four weeks of offer receipt.
  • I-20 issuance: Begins once financial documents and deposit clear - plan four to six weeks before visa slot booking.

Binghamton University Documents Required

The document set below is paperwork only; academic thresholds and English scores are covered under Eligibility.

  • Passport: Bio page (photo, name, date of birth, citizenship).
  • Academic transcripts: Class X, Class XII marksheets for UG; consolidated Bachelor’s transcripts plus provisional or degree certificate for PG.
  • Personal statement: Two single-spaced pages for PG; Common App essay for UG.
  • Resume or CV: Maximum two pages, education plus work, research, publications.
  • Letters of recommendation: Two for most PG programs, three for select ones; one counselor letter for UG.
  • Standardised test scores: Official IELTS/TOEFL/PTE/Duolingo report sent by testing agency.
  • International Student Financial Statement (ISFS): Sponsor form and matching bank statement showing one year of tuition plus living costs.
  • WES or equivalent evaluation: Recommended for three-year Bachelor’s applicants.

Binghamton University Acceptance Rate

Binghamton’s overall acceptance rate is 38.6 percent for the most recent published cycle, making it the second-most selective SUNY campus after Stony Brook. Watson College engineering majors and the Nursing program run tighter than the institutional average.

What the 38.6 percent rate means for Indian applicants

Around six of every ten applicants are turned away. Indian applicants clear the bar more easily when Class XII is above 80 percent for Watson, with a Math and Science score at or above 85, and one substantive extracurricular such as a research internship or an Olympiad-level competition.

Program-level selectivity signals

MS Computer Science and MS Data Analytics receive far more applications than seats and quietly run rates below 20 percent. MS in less-common tracks such as Materials Science, Systems Science, or Sustainable Communities is comparatively open. Compare against Binghamton’s ranking band when shortlisting reach and target schools.

USA Student Visa Process for Binghamton

Indian students admitted to Binghamton apply for the F-1 student visa. Once the I-20 arrives from the Binghamton International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS) office, pay the SEVIS I-901 fee of USD 350 (around INR 33,534), complete the DS-160 form, pay the visa fee of USD 185 (around INR 17,725), and book a biometric plus visa interview at the US Consulate in Chennai, Mumbai, Delhi, Hyderabad, or Kolkata.

Financial proof at the interview should show one full year of tuition plus living costs (around USD 55,000 or INR 52.70 Lakhs) in liquid assets or an approved education loan sanction letter. Report to Binghamton’s ISSS office within 15 days of arrival for SEVIS activation. Post-graduation, Binghamton’s STEM-designated master’s programs — including MS Computer Science, MS Data Analytics, and Watson engineering degrees — qualify for the 36-month OPT extension.

2026 update: US Consulates in India are running F-1 slots on a rolling basis with reduced wait times from mid-June through August 2026. Book the interview immediately after I-20 receipt to secure a July slot before Fall orientation.

Binghamton rewards applicants who front-load documentation and pick between the three UG platforms early rather than mid-cycle. For most Indian applicants, the Fall 2027 primary intake with an Early Action attempt (UG) or a February submission (PG at Watson) offers the cleanest path — supported by a straightforward IELTS waiver route, a moderate application fee, and STEM-OPT eligibility on all Watson master’s tracks.

  • I did not receive any scholarships. There were some scholarships on ethnicity, but not sure of it completely.
  • I did not receive any scholarships
  • One of my known batchmates received a scholarship of about $1000 after admission, which was adjusted to his first semester fees
  • No idea, as that number was never disclosed publicly to us, nor the amount of it

Scholarship

  • I was offered a scholarship (USD 1000) but i deferred my application to the next semester. So it got nulled. Most of the students got it during the covid period. Those who gets research role/ Teaching Assistant/Research Assistant/Graduate Assistant, their tuition cost gets paid by University which could be ~70% of the total semester cost. but it's quite competitive to get a Research/Teaching Assistant job.

Scholarship

  • Yes, $1000. It was a Watson scholarship and has competitive-profile-based evaluation criteria.
  • $1000 scholarship, usually received by most of the new students.
  • Also, Watson Institute of Systems Excellence I received a Research Project Assistantship (RPA) under the Watson Institute for Systems Excellence (WISE).
  • With this position:
    • $24,000/year tuition is waived
    • You receive a monthly stipend
    • You get to work directly with a company on real-world projects
    • I’m currently working with one such company and have gained valuable experience.
    • eligibility criteria: must be a student of the industrial engineering department and have a relevant background based on the open position.

Scholarship

  • One of my friends got a Gajwani Fellowship, but I have not received any scholarship or any other kind of financial aid. Since it's a state university and the fees are already low compared to other universities, Binghamton doesn't give many scholarships to international students, but there can be some options or benefits that I might not have explored.

  • Yes, I received a $1000 scholarship for having a good GPA in my undergrad, it's called watson graduate funding.
  • Not all batchmates received this scholarship, university has limitations for such funding. Some friends got TA and RA and are being funded by University which can be considered as a scholarship.
  • On an average 80 students received this scholarship.
