Indiana University Bloomington admissions for Indian students run through two entry paths, undergraduate and graduate. Undergraduate entry asks for Class XII at 65% or higher with IELTS 6.5, while master’s entry asks for a Bachelor’s degree with a 3.0 GPA equivalent and IELTS 6.5.

  • The next live deadline is 1 November 2026 for Fall 2027 Early Action, the round that gives first consideration for admission and merit scholarships.
  • Base tuition and mandatory fees for international undergraduates sit at USD 44,339 (INR 42.38 Lakhs) for the 2026-27 year, with an application fee of USD 75 (INR 7,168).
  • Undergraduate entry needs Class XII around 65% plus IELTS 6.5, and master’s entry needs a Bachelor’s degree with a 3.0 GPA equivalent plus IELTS 6.5.
  • Overall undergraduate acceptance rate sits near 80%, reflecting an access-oriented public university admissions policy.

Kelley MBA, MS Information Systems, and MS Computer Science pull the largest Indian applicant volumes on campus. Students often rate Indiana University Bloomington for its Big Ten scale, its access-first UG policy, and its lower cost of living compared with coastal universities.

Admission Status: Open. The primary intake is Fall 2027, which opens most undergraduate and graduate programs. The Common Application for the 2026-27 cycle opened 1 August 2026, so undergraduate applicants can file now for Fall 2027 Early Action, which closes 1 November 2026. The application fee is USD 75 (INR 7,168) for undergraduate international applicants and USD 65 (INR 6,212) for most graduate programs. Spring 2027 undergraduate applications close 15 September 2026, so Indian applicants targeting spring entry should file this month.

Indiana University Bloomington Application Deadlines

Indiana University Bloomington runs a Fall primary intake where the widest set of programs open, plus a smaller Spring intake for undergraduates and select master’s programs. Kelley Full-Time MBA follows four fixed application rounds, dates published on the Kelley admissions page.

The table below lists live deadlines dated forward from today, per the official IU international deadlines page.

Currency note: All INR figures in this article use USD 1 = INR 95.57, the live rate on 20 August 2026. Live rates may vary, so confirm with your bank before remitting.

Indiana University Bloomington’s primary intake for Indian students is Fall 2027, where most undergraduate and graduate programs open.

Indiana University Bloomington Eligibility for Indian Students

Indiana University Bloomington reads Indian qualifications directly, so Class XII from CBSE, ICSE, or a recognised state board maps to the freshman entry floor, and a three or four-year Indian Bachelor’s maps to the graduate entry floor. English proficiency is required of all international applicants and applies across levels. The institution-wide floors below come from the official IU English proficiency page, with academic thresholds from the international admissions page.

Indiana University Bloomington UG Academic Requirements

  • Class XII average: Around 65% or higher across the best 5 academic subjects for general entry.
  • Kelley direct admit: Higher Class XII scores plus strong Mathematics grades are expected for Business direct admission.
  • Luddy (CS, Data Science, Informatics): Class XII with Mathematics studied through the final year.
  • SAT or ACT: Test optional for the Fall 2027 cycle, though scores can strengthen scholarship review.

Indiana University Bloomington PG Academic Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree: A completed three or four-year Indian Bachelor’s degree, with a cumulative GPA around 3.0 on 4.0 (roughly 60 to 65% Indian average).
  • Kelley MS and MBA: Strong quantitative background, plus GMAT or GRE for the Full-Time MBA (waiver available for candidates with strong academic and work profiles).
  • Luddy MS Computer Science and Data Science: Prerequisites in programming, data structures, and calculus.

Indiana University Bloomington English Proficiency Scores

Test UG Minimum (admission) UG Minimum (begin classes)
IELTS 6.5 7.5
TOEFL iBT 79 100
PTE 53 68
Duolingo English Test 115 130
Cambridge English 176 191

Graduate programs use the same institution-wide floor of IELTS 6.5 or TOEFL iBT 79, though Kelley MBA and select Luddy MS tracks expect higher bands (IELTS 7.0 to 7.5) to be competitive. Scores must be within the last two years.

Indiana University Bloomington IELTS Waiver for Indian Applicants

IU Bloomington publishes three named waivers. Two rarely apply to Indian applicants, and one does.

  • Country-of-study waiver: Requires citizenship from or 3+ full years of secondary school in a predominantly English-speaking country. India is not on IU’s published list, so most CBSE and ICSE students still submit IELTS or TOEFL.
  • AP, IB, or A-Level English: Qualifying scores in AP English Language, IB HL English, or A-Level English can waive the requirement for Indian applicants holding those transcripts.
  • IU Intensive English Program: Completing Level 7 of IU’s on-campus IEP satisfies the requirement, useful for conditional admits.

Indiana University Bloomington PG Programs and English Scores

Indian applicants most often target Kelley School of Business master’s tracks and Luddy School of Informatics, Computing, and Engineering master’s tracks. The table below shows base entry criteria and the institution-wide English floor. Base tuition and mandatory fees for general graduate programs sit at USD 27,271 (INR 26.06 Lakhs) for the 2026-27 year, with Kelley Full-Time MBA higher at USD 55,695 (INR 53.23 Lakhs) per year.

Programme Duration Minimum Eligibility English Req. Min.
Full-Time +Flex MBA 21 months Bachelor’s with 3.0 GPA plus 2+ years work experience IELTS 6.5
MS in Information Systems 12 months Bachelor’s with 3.0 GPA in any discipline IELTS 6.5
MS in Business Analytics (Online) 15 to 21 months Bachelor’s with 3.0 GPA and quantitative coursework IELTS 6.5
MS in Finance 10 to 12 months Bachelor’s with quantitative background IELTS 6.5
MS in Management 10 months Bachelor’s in a non-business discipline preferred IELTS 6.5
MS in Accounting with Data and Analytics 10 to 12 months Bachelor’s with accounting or analytics coursework IELTS 6.5
MS Computer Science 18 to 24 months Bachelor’s in CS or related, 3.0 GPA IELTS 6.5
MS Data Science (Residential) 18 to 24 months Bachelor’s with programming, statistics, and calculus IELTS 6.5
MS Informatics 18 to 24 months Bachelor’s with 3.0 GPA IELTS 6.5
MS Secure Computing 18 to 24 months Bachelor’s in CS or related, 3.0 GPA IELTS 6.5

Planning note: Kelley and Luddy departments each set their own English band above the graduate school floor. MBA applicants aiming for scholarships should target IELTS 7.5 or TOEFL 100, while MS Computer Science applicants at Luddy commonly land near IELTS 7.0.

Note: Program-specific entry requirements, fees, and intake availability may differ from the institution-wide minimums shown above. Always confirm on the official Indiana University Bloomington international graduate page for your chosen program before applying.

Merit aid reaches about 90% of admits, awarded automatically during admissions review, so no separate application. See funding options for Indian students for external awards.

Indiana University Bloomington Application Process

The Fall 2027 undergraduate cycle runs on the Common Application, which opened for the 2026-27 cycle on 1 August 2026. Graduate applicants use IU’s own graduate portal at admissions.graduate.iu.edu. Kelley Full-Time MBA has its own portal on kelley.iu.edu.

  1. Start your application on the correct portal. Undergraduates open a Common Application account and add IU Bloomington to the college list, or file directly via Apply IU. Graduate applicants create an account on the IU Graduate portal. Kelley MBA candidates start on the Kelley Full-Time MBA portal.
  2. Pay the application fee. USD 75 (INR 7,168) for undergraduate applicants on the Common Application or Apply IU, or USD 65 (INR 6,212) for most Graduate School programs, or USD 75 (INR 7,168) for Kelley Full-Time MBA.
  3. Upload supporting documents. Transcripts, IELTS or TOEFL score report, SOP or statement of purpose, and letters of recommendation. Undergraduate applicants receive Atlas portal credentials within 5 business days for document upload.
  4. Submit financial documentation. After acceptance, submit bank statements and sponsor letters covering first-year cost of attendance so IU can issue the Form I-20.
  5. Confirm enrollment. Pay the USD 100 (INR 9,557) nonrefundable enrollment deposit by 1 May 2027 for Fall 2027 admits, credited toward first-semester tuition.
  6. Book your F-1 visa appointment. Pay the SEVIS fee and DS-160 fee, then schedule an appointment at a US consulate in India.

Indiana University Bloomington Acceptance Rate

Indiana University Bloomington runs an access-oriented undergraduate admissions policy, meaning it admits most applicants who meet its stated Class XII and English thresholds. The overall UG acceptance rate has published between 78 and 82% across recent cycles, based on the IU Office of Admissions Common Data Set filings. IU does not publish a single institution-wide graduate acceptance rate, since each department reviews its own applications.

Indiana University Bloomington UG Selectivity Read for Indian Students

Indian Class XII applicants at 70% or higher with IELTS 6.5 have a strong read at the general UG level. The Kelley direct admit route and the Luddy Computer Science program run tighter, closer to 40 to 50%  internal admit rates, and reward Class XII near 85% with clear Mathematics grades.

Indiana University Bloomington Kelley MBA Selectivity Read

Kelley Full-Time MBA admits roughly one in three applicants, per Kelley’s published class profile. The Indian applicant read is competitive but attainable with a GMAT of 690 or higher, a 3.2 GPA equivalent, and 3 to 5 years of professional work experience.

Insider note: IU Bloomington’s US News ranking band sits at national #73, meaning Indian applicants are choosing IU on program depth (Kelley Business, Luddy CS, O’Neill Public Affairs) rather than on brand pressure alone.

USA F-1 Student Visa Process for Indiana University Bloomington

Indian students admitted to Indiana University Bloomington apply for the F-1 student visa, granted by the US Department of State. IU’s Office of International Services issues the Form I-20 after admission and after financial documentation clears. Applicants then pay the SEVIS I-901 fee of USD 350 (INR 33,450), complete the DS-160 online form, pay the visa application fee of USD 185 (INR 17,681), and book an appointment at a US consulate in India (Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Kolkata, or Hyderabad). Financial proof at the interview should cover the first-year cost of attendance, roughly USD 66,399 (INR 63.46 Lakhs) for undergraduates including living costs. F-1 visa holders can enter the US up to 30 days before the program start date printed on the I-20.

2026 update: F-1 visa appointment wait times at Indian consulates for the summer 2027 intake are running 6 to 10 weeks. Kelley MBA applicants filing in Round 2 typically land visa slots by May 2027, comfortably ahead of the August start.

Tips and Application Checklist for Indiana University Bloomington

The following tips and steps are drawn from Indian-applicant patterns at Indiana University Bloomington across recent cycles. Steps cover timing and sequencing rather than the paperwork itself, which is listed under Documents Required.

  • File Fall 2027 UG by Early Action: The 1 November 2026 deadline unlocks the largest merit scholarship pools, including the Global Engagement Scholarship review.
  • Kelley MBA by Round 2: Aim to file by 5 January 2027 so your I-20 issues in time for the F-1 interview in an Indian consulate.
  • Book IELTS 8 weeks ahead: Score reports take 13 days to reach IU after your test date, so schedule your test by early September 2026 if you are targeting the November deadline.
  • Request transcripts early: Indian university registrars often take 4 to 6 weeks for official transcripts. Start requests by the first week of September 2026 for graduate applications.
  • Line up two referees before October 2026: Graduate departments expect faculty letters, so give your referees an 8-week notice window and share your SOP draft with them.
  • Save for the enrollment deposit: USD 100 (INR 9,557) is due 1 May 2027 for Fall 2027 admits and is not refundable.
  • Prepare financial proof early: Keep bank statements dated within 3 months of the I-20 request, showing the first-year cost of attendance.
  • Book the F-1 visa slot right after I-20: Slots at Mumbai and Delhi consulates open new dates weekly, so refresh appointment portals daily once the I-20 arrives.

Indiana University Bloomington is a strong Fall 2027 target for Indian students who value program depth over brand pressure, especially in Kelley Business, Luddy CS, and O’Neill Public Affairs. File by 1 November 2026 for Early Action to protect scholarship access.

Overview

My college experience this year was really one to remember. Apart from the success academically I feel I enjoyed the process of having fun and making most of opportunities presented to me. I thoroughly enjoyed making new friends who were local citizens of Bloomington. Interacting with them on a daily basis showed me how different cultures operate and how diverse IU really is.

Scholarship

Yes, I received the Global Engagement Scholarship worth $10,000/year. There was no special application for the scholarship. My Common App essay was considered to be an essay for scholarship.

Overview

My overall experience at Indiana University has been very enlightening. I have learned a lot not just about my subject but also about myself and life in general. My biggest challenge after coming here was to settle and fit in to the culture and as time went by it was to stay here and make a mark for myself. I have been able to form a lot of meaningful friendships and connections with people from all walks of life. I would definitely recommend people to come and study abroad if they have the resources to as it can really shape you into a well rounded individual.

Scholarship

Yes, I received a global engagement scholarship of $11,000/year. The requirement for the scholarship was an essay for a given topic. To continue receiving that scholarship I have to maintain a GPA of 3.0 and above.

Overview

I love it at Indiana University. The campus is so pretty and it is so easy to go on long walks through campus and feel an amazing energy all around you. It’s also easy to find somewhere to sit and do work or relax or hang out with friends. Everyone here has a lot of school spirit and there’s an amazing sense of community at such a big school. I met some of my lifelong friends here and got some amazing opportunities through extracurricular involvements and networking. I’ve grown a lot professionally and personally and I owe that to this school.

Overview

I chose to this university because it has great faculty working in the area of my interest (Functional Analysis and Operator Theory). At IIT Delhi, we follow books written by authors that have worked/studied at Indiana University. In fact, my current supervisor (Prof. Hari Bercovici) at IU was my top choice because I was inspired by a book written by him. His research credentials are amazing and that’s what matters the most in PhD. The university’s math department ranks 34 and it’s situated in Bloomington which is a very pleasant place to live. I also had offers from - University of Oregon, University of California (Davis) and NYU(unfunded).

Scholarship

Yes I have received 4 scholarships: 1. INSPIRE scholarship (2014-2019): 80,000 INR/year. I got this by virtue of performance within top 1 percentile in CBSE (12th) in 2014. 2. Fee Remission at Indiana University (2020-2025): 39,915 USD/ year. 3. Spring Graduate Fellowship at Indiana University (Jan-Aug 2021): 8400 USD (one time). This is a very competitive fellowship that is rewarded to students who show promise. 4. Top Up Fellowship at Indiana University (Jan-Dec 2021): 2000 USD (in two instalments). This is given to students whose admission application is remarkable.
