Indiana University Bloomington Eligibility for Indian Students
Indiana University Bloomington reads Indian qualifications directly, so Class XII from CBSE, ICSE, or a recognised state board maps to the freshman entry floor, and a three or four-year Indian Bachelor’s maps to the graduate entry floor. English proficiency is required of all international applicants and applies across levels. The institution-wide floors below come from the official IU English proficiency page, with academic thresholds from the international admissions page.
Indiana University Bloomington UG Academic Requirements
- Class XII average: Around 65% or higher across the best 5 academic subjects for general entry.
- Kelley direct admit: Higher Class XII scores plus strong Mathematics grades are expected for Business direct admission.
- Luddy (CS, Data Science, Informatics): Class XII with Mathematics studied through the final year.
- SAT or ACT: Test optional for the Fall 2027 cycle, though scores can strengthen scholarship review.
Indiana University Bloomington PG Academic Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree: A completed three or four-year Indian Bachelor’s degree, with a cumulative GPA around 3.0 on 4.0 (roughly 60 to 65% Indian average).
- Kelley MS and MBA: Strong quantitative background, plus GMAT or GRE for the Full-Time MBA (waiver available for candidates with strong academic and work profiles).
- Luddy MS Computer Science and Data Science: Prerequisites in programming, data structures, and calculus.
Indiana University Bloomington English Proficiency Scores
Graduate programs use the same institution-wide floor of IELTS 6.5 or TOEFL iBT 79, though Kelley MBA and select Luddy MS tracks expect higher bands (IELTS 7.0 to 7.5) to be competitive. Scores must be within the last two years.
Indiana University Bloomington IELTS Waiver for Indian Applicants
IU Bloomington publishes three named waivers. Two rarely apply to Indian applicants, and one does.
- Country-of-study waiver: Requires citizenship from or 3+ full years of secondary school in a predominantly English-speaking country. India is not on IU’s published list, so most CBSE and ICSE students still submit IELTS or TOEFL.
- AP, IB, or A-Level English: Qualifying scores in AP English Language, IB HL English, or A-Level English can waive the requirement for Indian applicants holding those transcripts.
- IU Intensive English Program: Completing Level 7 of IU’s on-campus IEP satisfies the requirement, useful for conditional admits.
Indiana University Bloomington PG Programs and English Scores
Indian applicants most often target Kelley School of Business master’s tracks and Luddy School of Informatics, Computing, and Engineering master’s tracks. - It doesn't have a wide range of courses since we have limited number of departments in the school of computing.

- By pursuing an undergraduate program in Finance from the Kelley School of Business, I intend to gain a deeper understanding in the fields of corporate finance, financial reporting, and cost management. This would enable me to build ‘great ships’ and keep them from ‘sinking’. Furthermore, the ‘Security Trading and Market Making’ elective excites me since I have a keen interest in the stock market. I eagerly follow my country’s National Stock Exchange and Bombay Stock Exchange and I also invest in index funds. A business and finance degree with Kelley School of Business will inculcate in me the skills and knowledge required to monitor financial markets and the performance of individual securities/ commodities. In addition, The IUSG first year internship program will give me the opportunity to utilize and develop my leadership skills, thereby making me ‘future ready’!
- I like the fact that IU hosts events on a daily basis that an are free to attend and make the student feel light after a heavy week of studying. Carnivals, balance week( an all day event that goes on for weeks to manage students mental health during finals week) and many more extracurricular activities in sports really help the student to cool off. Moreover, the place became home to me in a period of only 9 months.

- One thing I did not like about my university is the food! Being an international student I found the food average and had problems with the quality of food in my freshman year. After talking to a few locals as well, I understood that they too had such problems even though they were locally situated.
Overview
My college experience this year was really one to remember. Apart from the success academically I feel I enjoyed the process of having fun and making most of opportunities presented to me. I thoroughly enjoyed making new friends who were local citizens of Bloomington. Interacting with them on a daily basis showed me how different cultures operate and how diverse IU really is.
Scholarship
Yes, I received the Global Engagement Scholarship worth $10,000/year. There was no special application for the scholarship. My Common App essay was considered to be an essay for scholarship.
Overview
The program ranking is pretty good, not a very expensive state, beautiful campus The overall experience has been pretty good. The programs are well ranked and the faculty is impressive. The infrastructure is really good and you will find lots of opportunities. The job search is basically in your own hands(true for all US universities), but you will find a lot of advisory for it. The campus is in top 10 beautiful campuses of USA.

- It had the #7 best business school in the US and along with that I received a very good scholarship. Another reason was that I was close to my local guardian who lives 4 hours away.
- Indiana University has a very well spread out and great campus, with new and modern infrastructure. I also like the fact that even though it is huge, it is very well connected through public transportation. Another thing that I love about this college is their team of faculty and advisors. They are very well equipped to help you out in every way possible.
Dislikes
- There are very few things that I dislike about this university, but the biggest one is the availability of affordable food on campus without buying a meal plan. In my first year I did not realise this problem as I had a meal plan and I could get food very easily from the dinning halls, but after moving off campus the food has become very expensive to purchase out of pocket. So I believe that they could improve on this a little bit.
Overview
My overall experience at Indiana University has been very enlightening. I have learned a lot not just about my subject but also about myself and life in general. My biggest challenge after coming here was to settle and fit in to the culture and as time went by it was to stay here and make a mark for myself. I have been able to form a lot of meaningful friendships and connections with people from all walks of life. I would definitely recommend people to come and study abroad if they have the resources to as it can really shape you into a well rounded individual.
Scholarship
Yes, I received a global engagement scholarship of $11,000/year. The requirement for the scholarship was an essay for a given topic. To continue receiving that scholarship I have to maintain a GPA of 3.0 and above.

- I chose this university because it’s school of business was highly ranked (Kelley School of Business is top 8 business schools in the US). I also loved the campus because it’s very beautiful and felt like home. I chose to major in Finance because I’m mathematically inclined and like working with numbers.
Overview
I love it at Indiana University. The campus is so pretty and it is so easy to go on long walks through campus and feel an amazing energy all around you. It’s also easy to find somewhere to sit and do work or relax or hang out with friends. Everyone here has a lot of school spirit and there’s an amazing sense of community at such a big school. I met some of my lifelong friends here and got some amazing opportunities through extracurricular involvements and networking. I’ve grown a lot professionally and personally and I owe that to this school.
Overview
I chose this university for its business school. Its business school - Kelley School of Business is ranked among the top 10 business schools in the USA. Additionally, this university was relatively easier to get in without sacrificing a good education program.
Scholarship
No, I have not received any scholarships from the university.
Overview
I chose to this university because it has great faculty working in the area of my interest (Functional Analysis and Operator Theory). At IIT Delhi, we follow books written by authors that have worked/studied at Indiana University. In fact, my current supervisor (Prof. Hari Bercovici) at IU was my top choice because I was inspired by a book written by him. His research credentials are amazing and that’s what matters the most in PhD. The university’s math department ranks 34 and it’s situated in Bloomington which is a very pleasant place to live. I also had offers from - University of Oregon, University of California (Davis) and NYU(unfunded).

Yes I have received 4 scholarships: 1. INSPIRE scholarship (2014-2019): 80,000 INR/year. I got this by virtue of performance within top 1 percentile in CBSE (12th) in 2014. 2. Fee Remission at Indiana University (2020-2025): 39,915 USD/ year. 3. Spring Graduate Fellowship at Indiana University (Jan-Aug 2021): 8400 USD (one time). This is a very competitive fellowship that is rewarded to students who show promise. 4. Top Up Fellowship at Indiana University (Jan-Dec 2021): 2000 USD (in two instalments). This is given to students whose admission application is remarkable.
Overview
The Kelley School of Business is a well-ranked business school in the US which is why I chose Indiana University and after speaking to current students and their positive reviews, I chose IU.
Scholarship
I got the Global Engagement Scholarship and McCommon Match OEM Scholarship which adds up to around $6000 a year.
