Admissions at New York Film Academy are granted on a rolling basis.The student body at the NYFA is very diverse and consists of students from over 80 countries. More than 50% of the students enrolled at the Academy are international students. 

In total, there are five degree programs offered at NYFA, other than short courses and certificate programs. The college provides undergraduate, certificate courses and graduate courses in the field of Photography, Film Making, Cinematography, Visual effects, Performing Arts, Graphic Design and Game Design. 

NYFA also has many scholarships available for international students, based on talent, merit and their needs.

  • The University offers rolling admissions throughout the year for the Spring, Summer and Fall courses.
  • No minimum GPA is required for enrolment in any course.
  • For international students, Recommendations and proficiency in English are required.
  • Interviews are essential to the admissions, they will be done over the phone or in person
  • Applicants must submit a Creative Portfolio to demonstrate their ability to take on the undergraduate level study and show a potential for success within the profession.

New York Film Academy International Admissions

There are several additional requirements for the international students along with the general requirements which are the same as the US applicants. NYFA has following admission requirements.

Admission Requirements

  • Transcripts of all the educational institutions attended previously.
  • Letter of recommendation has to be presented in order to take admission.
    • These may range from one to three, depending on the program choice
  • Applicants have to submit a narrative statement and creative portfolio of their previous work.
  • Evidence of English language proficiency
  • There are various specific departmental requirements as well which include auditions and interviews.

English Proficiency Test Score Requirements

International students need to prove their proficiency in English by submitting their TOEFL or IELTS score. Minimum required scores for admission are given below. However, certain specific departments may have different score requirements.

Visa Process for International Students

International students need a student visa to study in the US. For this, an I-20 is required. This visa document is issued by the NYFAitself.

  • The selected applicants will be issued the I- 20 A- B certificate from the New York Film Academy International Student Office.
  • Following documents have to be submitted by the applicants in order to obtain the I- 20 form
    • I- 20 questionnaire
    • Financial verification form
    • Financial documents which include a current bank statement, a letter from the bank official mentioning the amount of deposit, loan approval documents, proof of income from the sponsor and other suitable financial documents. The given documents should be in English and the currency should be converted to USD along with stating the conversion methods.
    • A copy of the biographical page of the passport.
    • Pay the New York Film Academy International Student Fee of 150 USD which is non-refundable.
  • After completing the I- 20, applicants have to pay the SEVIS I- 901 fees.
  • Apply for F- 1 or M- 1 visa by completing the DS- 160 visa application.
  • Schedule and attend the visa interview by consulting the US embassy in your country

New York Film Academy Undergraduate Admissions

The New York Film Academy provides undergraduate programs in three major areas which include Bachelors of Fine Arts, Bachelor of Arts, Associate of Arts. Admission procedure for all three programs is the same.

    • Length of the narrative statement should be 3 pages at maximum

The New York Film Academy provides masters programs in two major areas which include Master of Fine Arts and Master of Arts. Each course has specific admission requirements. However, the basic requirements for admission are the same for all courses.
