Loyola University Chicago Admission Requirements for Indian Applicants 2027

Indian applicants must clear an academic threshold on the Indian grading scale plus an English proficiency test, with credential verification through WES iCAP.

PG Requirements at Loyola University Chicago

  • Academic: Bachelor’s degree with 55% or CGPA 5.5/10 (recommended) minimum; MBA and MS Finance prefer 60% or CGPA 6.0/10. Three-year Indian bachelor degrees are accepted for most masters.
  • English proficiency: TOEFL iBT 4.5 (1-6 scale) / 79 (0-120 legacy scale), IELTS 6.5, PTE 53, or Duolingo English Test 110 (verbatim from official page).
  • Credential verification: WES iCAP or ECE course-by-course evaluation of transcripts.
  • Standardised tests: GRE and GMAT are optional for most Quinlan and Graduate School programmes; strong scores strengthen MBA and MS Finance files.

UG Requirements at Loyola University Chicago

  • Academic: Class 12 with 70% to 85% (recommended) from CBSE, ICSE or a state board; science-track programmes such as Nursing prefer 75% or higher in PCB.
  • English proficiency: Same TOEFL, IELTS, PTE and Duolingo minimums as PG; medium-of-instruction waivers considered case by case.
  • Standardised tests: SAT and ACT are test-optional; strong scores may improve merit scholarship value.

Key insight: Loyola Chicago accepts a conditional admit through its ICAP English pathway if you miss the TOEFL 4.5 (79) minimum, letting you start the language programme first and roll into the degree once you clear.

Loyola University Chicago Acceptance Rate 2027

The Loyola Chicago overall acceptance rate is 81.4% per the university’s official disclosure, placing it among the more accessible private US research universities for Indian applicants.

The rate reflects undergraduate admission across all programmes. Selectivity is sharper for Nursing, Quinlan MBA and Stritch School of Medicine, where cohorts are capped.

Reality check: A high headline acceptance rate does not mean automatic entry; Indian applicants with weak English scores or unverified WES evaluations are the most common rejections at Loyola Chicago.

Loyola University Chicago Campus, Facilities and Student Life

Loyola Chicago runs three Chicago campuses and one Rome, Italy centre, giving Indian students access to lakefront housing, downtown internships and study-abroad rotation.

  • Location and transport: The Lake Shore Campus sits on Lake Michigan in Rogers Park, connected to downtown by the CTA Red Line in 25 minutes; Water Tower Campus is in the Magnificent Mile business district.
  • Housing: On-campus housing is guaranteed to first-year undergraduates but not to graduate students; most Indian PG students share off-campus apartments in Rogers Park or Edgewater.
  • Notable facility: The Klarchek Information Commons is a LEED Silver lakefront library open 24/5 during term, and the Halas Sports Center offers full gym access at no extra cost.
  • Indian student community: The Indian Students Association and Sangam graduate group run Diwali, Holi and Independence Day events, and Devon Avenue (a 10-minute drive) hosts one of the largest South Asian grocery and restaurant strips in the US.
  • Career and health support: The Career Development Center runs Indian-student peer mentoring; the Wellness Center provides free counselling and telehealth.

What Indian students say: The Rogers Park neighbourhood keeps rents lower than downtown while the free U-Pass makes commuting to Water Tower internships painless. Devon Avenue is the single biggest cultural pull for South Asian students choosing Loyola over suburban alternatives.

Loyola Chicago’s strongest global recognition sits in the US News Best Global Universities table, where the current 2026-2027 edition places it at #949; the QS World and ARWU editions cluster the university in the 900-1400 band with a modest three-year decline in QS.

Subject rankings work in Loyola’s favour: the Marcella Niehoff nursing programme is ranked #13 in the US News Best Undergraduate Nursing 2026, the Quinlan International Business track is #10 and Quinlan Business Analytics is #16. In ARWU GRAS 2025 Nursing sits in the 101-150 global band. Collegedunia Study Abroad also ranks the School of Law at #226 globally and #77 among US law programmes.

Key insight: The US News national #132 and #13 Nursing marks matter more than the QS band for Indian applicants because US employers, H-1B lawyers and Indian bank loan committees anchor decisions to US News, not QS.

Loyola University Chicago Placements and Career Outcomes 2027

Loyola Chicago publishes strong post-graduation outcomes for its Quinlan MBA and Nursing programmes, with the Career Development Center supporting Indian graduates on OPT job search.

  • Employment outcome: 96% of Quinlan MBA graduates report employment or continued education within three months of graduation per official school data.
  • Median starting salary (MS and MBA): USD 75,000 to USD 95,000 per year (INR 71.8 to 91.0 lakh) as a market median across business, analytics and nursing tracks.
  • Top sectors: Financial services, consulting, healthcare systems, technology and public health (representative sectors; recruiter lists not disclosed at university level).
  • Career support: Handshake portal, on-campus employer visits, dedicated international-student career coaches for CPT and OPT paperwork.
  • Post-study work visa: F-1 graduates qualify for 12 month OPT; STEM-designated programmes (MS CS, MS Business Analytics, MS Finance) get a further 24 month STEM extension for a 36 month US work window.

Insider note: Chicago’s status as headquarters city for Boeing, McDonald’s, Walgreens, Aon, Northern Trust and Kraft Heinz gives Loyola MBA and analytics graduates a denser local recruiter network than many higher-ranked coastal peers.

Loyola University Chicago vs Peer Universities

Peers below cover the two most-considered comparison groups for Indian applicants: Chicago-area private and public alternatives, and other Jesuit US universities.

UniversityKey Differentiator vs Loyola Chicago
DePaul UniversityLarger private Chicago peer with a stronger part-time MBA and cinema/game-design tracks; higher acceptance rate
Marquette UniversityJesuit peer in Milwaukee with a highly ranked dental school and lower cost of living
Fordham UniversityJesuit peer in New York with stronger finance placement through the Gabelli School and higher tuition
University of Illinois ChicagoPublic Chicago research university with lower tuition, larger STEM cohorts and stronger engineering

Loyola Chicago stands out for its Marcella Niehoff Nursing #13 US News rank and its Quinlan international-business #10 rank, both of which translate directly into higher starting salaries. It also carries a stronger scholarship-conversion rate than DePaul and Fordham for competitive Indian applicants because merit aid is automatic on admission.

Loyola Chicago is the right fit for Indian students targeting Nursing, Business Analytics, Finance or MBA tracks in a Jesuit setting, where the four-year total of USD 100,000 net of merit aid (INR 95.8 lakh) is repaid within three to four years on a USD 75,000 to 95,000 (INR 71.8 to 91.0 lakh) median starting salary. The Chicago location, free CTA U-Pass and STEM OPT eligibility are the single strongest Indian-specific advantages, especially for students who want big-city recruiter access without New York or Boston cost.

It is not the right fit for engineering-first applicants or for those chasing sub-100 QS World ranks; those students are better served by MS universities in USA such as the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign or Purdue.

Overview

I chose this school because it is a small, liberal arts school so I knew that I would be focused on as an individual. I also chose the school-based off of athletics. I run on the track team here so it was important to me that the team and training fit my needs.

Fees

There are a ton of fees and tuition here. It is a super expensive school and if I wasn't on an academic scholarship along with other financial aid there is no way that I would be able to go to this school and pay for it all.

Overview

It is in the city and it also has a campus. This was very important to me when I came from Michigan. I loved that I would be able to access the opportunities from the city and also be somewhat close to home.

Fees

This school is very expensive from paying for water to paying for the trash cans you are paying for every cent spent.

Overview

I wanted to be in Chicago and have a college that was community-driven. The campus is beautiful and all of my classes are taken in the heart of downtown which was a big selling point for me. I enjoyed the environment when I visited.

Fees

It's so expensive since it is a private school. I believe tuition is up to about $50,000 a year and there is tuition raise every year. Other fees include room and board, averaging around 6,000 dollars a semester, along with CTA pass.

Generally it take about four to six weeks from the date of receipt of application with the necessary documents for Loyola University to review, assess and notify you about the admission decision. To apply for the Fall intake, you must submit your application before August 29, 2023.
