With an acceptance rate of 58%, admissions at Illinois Institute of Technology can be a bit difficult due to their selective screening process. The institute has five academic schools and a variety of programs are offered at IIT. Recently admitted applicants at Illinois Institute of Technology had an average SAT score between 1220 and 1400 or an ACT score between 26 and 31. These score ranges are considered to be very good and hence set the bar very high. A student’s GPA is considered a very important academic factor by the Admission officials of IIT.

International Student Admission

Illinois Institute of Technology accepts international applicants if they fulfill all the requirements and their application stands out.

The admission process is similar for both international and domestic applicants. However, International applicants need to meet some additional requirements.

Application Portal: Applications can be submitted through Common Application (UG) or IIT Online Graduate Application (PG)

Application Fee: 75 USD

Admission Requirements: International applicants must satisfy the following requirements in order to be eligible for Illinois Institute of Technology admissions:

  • Official or certified copies of the marks or grades of the courses attained.
    • You must submit your English translated official transcripts in case it is not issued in English
  • Different standardized exams are optional for international students applying for spring 2021 and fall 2021
  • An official copy of English Proficiency test score report.
  • A completed evaluation form or letter of recommendation from your counselor or a teacher.
  • You must provide a copy of your passport which will be needed to fulfill the visa requirements.
  • Additional requirements like resume, portfolio, LORs, SOP etc as stated by some master’s programs.

Visa Process for International Students

Students who are accepted by Illinois Institute of Technology must apply for a visa to study in the US. International students will receive an I-20 or DS-2019 form to apply for an F-1 or J-1 student visa. Aspirants will be required to submit the following documents while applying for a visa:

  • Submit the required documents.
    • Students must submit a copy of their passport and a Financial Affidavit of Support Form in order to receive an I-20 or DS-2019.
  • Obtain an I-20/DS-2019 form
    • The I-20 must be completed with accurate information such as name, biographical information, and program information as this will be used for the visa stamp in the applicant’s passport.
  • Students have to pay the SEVIS I-901 fee.
    • Upon payment, you will be issued a receipt that you must bring to your visa appointment.
  • Finally, students have to attend the scheduled interview at the U.S. embassy.

Illinois Institute of Technology Graduate Admissions

IIT offers graduate courses in the field of Engineering, Applied Technology, Law, Human Sciences, Design, Architecture, Business and Law. Applicants must keep in mind the following if considering admission at Illinois Institute of Technology.

Application Fee: 75 USD (Currently not required due to COVID-19)

Admission Requirements:

  • Official or certified copies of the marks or grades of the courses attained.
  • A professional statement is needed.
    • It should be written in essay format and should include a discussion of your reasons for pursuing graduate study, your academic background, your research interests.
    • It has to be within a length of 500-2000 words
  • A resume is needed only for those who are applying to Illinois Tech's Stuart School of Business.
  • Applicants applying for the clinical program must submit their CV. No other departments require a resume.
  • A letter of recommendation is a must. Two letters are required for master’s degree programs and three are required for Ph.D. programs.
  • GRE or GMAT scores are required.
