Claremont Graduate University Campus

The Claremont Graduate University campus is spread over 19 acres of land and is located at the heart of Claremont Village, California. Since the university is part of the Claremont Colleges, Its students can take advantage of the extended resources from peer institutions from the Claremont Colleges. This includes a library collaboration of over two million volumes, health and counseling centers, interfaith chaplaincy, and much more.

The Claremont campus offers a lot of opportunities to students to foster an open exchange of ideas, opportunities for collaboration, innovation, and early career development. Students can join any of the 25 graduate student clubs and organizations on campus get involved in areas they are interested in from athletics to leadership and global peace.

The campus has many recreational opportunities including a nearby hiking spot, art museums, galleries, and a meditation center. There is also a botanical garden at the university that serves both educational and recreational purposes. There are student gyms and wellness centers to keep you fit and healthy.

Admission Requirements:

The general admission requirements to study in the US, as well as the university-specific requirements for international students, are mentioned below:

  • Copy of passport.
  • Latest resume.
  • English language proficiency: Either TOEFL or IELTS scores are required.
  • Financial affidavit and statement or proof of your affordability to study at the Claremont Graduate University.
  • Academic transcripts submitted through an accredited evaluation service, or obtain a sealed academic transcript from your university and forward it to CGU.
  • Academic transcripts must be accompanied by an official English translation if not already in English.
  • In-Progress certificates are accepted from students who are continuing their undergraduate studies at the time of application.

Cost of Living

Students can choose from a variety of housing options and the costs vary according to the floor plan of the apartment/ suite. The costs of housing vary from USD 799 – USD 1,700 per month.

Scholarships and Financial Aid

Every year, CGU awards fellowships worth up to USD 30,000 to international students as departmental or institutional merit and need-based scholarships. Students can also seek employer tuition assistance if they receive complete or partial tuition assistance from their employers.

The fellowships offered for international students are as follows:

CGU Fellowships

  • These are merit-based fellowships awarded to students based on the recommendation of their corresponding academic department.
  • The CGU fellowships are based on enrollment in 12-16 units each semester. Fellowships are adjusted if the enrollment changes.
  • As long as a student maintains Satisfactory Academic Progress, the CGU continues to offer the fellowship awarded to him/her.
  • According to the resolution of the Council of Graduate Schools (CGS), applicants applying to the fall term who are awarded fellowships do not need to submit a non-refundable tuition deposit before April 15. Details of tuition deposits can be found in your admission letter.

Hillcrest Transdisciplinary Awards

The Transdisciplinary Studies program offers the Hillcrest Research Award to help students engaged in transdisciplinary research and collaboration. The award values range from USD 500 to USD 1,500 per group.

Transdisciplinary Dissertation Awards

Every year, the Transdisciplinary Studies program awards up to five dissertation awards to doctoral students. The awards are offered to recognize students undertaking transdisciplinary research and has developed compelling and feasible projects. The award values range from USD 3000 – USD 10,000.

Dissertation Awards

Faculty Research Committee Dissertation Awards offer financial support of USD 10,000 to advanced doctoral students for the successful completion of their dissertations by the following academic year. These awards are offered to doctoral students who have completed all other coursework for the Ph.D. and have their dissertation proposal and advancement to candidacy approved from the Registrar’s Office.

Work While You Study

CGU students have access to the Handshake program. The program facilitates participation in career events and provides access to a lot of job and employer contacts. Handshake is a student and employer database where employers can post vacancies and job offers and contact candidates meeting their requirements. Students get access to employer details and apply for the job offers that they are interested in via the Handshake portal.

Alumni Network

Claremont Graduate University has a large alumni network with more than 23,000 members from its seven schools and institutes. The CGU Alumni Association offers Distinguished Alumni Awards and Distinguished Alumni Service Awards every year to honor notable alumni of the university for their extraordinary contributions in their academic or professional fields and their philanthropic or volunteerism to public service activities respectively.

The Career Development Office (CDO) works with the CGU Alumni Association to help alumni of the university achieve their career objectives. They also organize professional development and skill development programs and workshops to assist the alumni. CGU graduates can undertake CGU professional enrichment courses at 50% lower rates.
