Founded in 1997 under the leadership of Henry Riggs, Keck Graduate Institute(KGI) is one of the seven members of The Claremont Consortium or The Claremont Colleges. KGI is situated in a semi-urban setting of Claremont town, California, USA. The KGI is the first graduate-level college under The Claremont Consortium. The KGI offers various postgraduate degrees and certificates for students to inculcate quality industry experience. 

The total enrollment of the university is 627 and the annual acceptance rate is 45%. The KGI has been accredited from WASC Senior College and University Commission, Department of Education, USA.

Programs, Campus and Residence

Campus

Keck Graduate Institute Campus

KGI is situated in the suburban area of Claremont town in southern California. With a vibrant small-knit community, the KGI offers its students multiple resources to grow, live in a diverse environment and study along.

  • The students of KGI can apply in more than 10 graduate, doctorate, and certificate programs being offered in the KGI campus
  • All the KGI students have access to the shared library and bookstore in Claremont.
  • Also, the students can use their ID card as a debit card and this facility provided by the institute is named ‘Claremont cash’.
  • For campus safety, the students may access the Campus Safety force deputed for safety and proper conduction of The Claremont colleges.
  • Moreover, the students can take advantage of medical services provided by the KGI under the ambit of SHS (Students Health Services). The institute offers General medicine and labs for various diseases.

Along with KGI resources, students may take benefit from the resources offered by other Claremont colleges as well.

Programs, Faculties, and Divisions

With highly qualified and experienced faculty members, Keck Graduate Institute provides graduate and certificate courses in about 15 courses. The KGI has three divisions:

  • Henry E. Riggs School of Applied Sciences

 This school of KGI offers creative and industry-focused programs in the fields of life sciences, engineering and business. Moreover, the school allows students to work on industry-sponsored projects and internships. The school offers nine professional courses that include master's degree programs, doctoral degree programs, and one-year certificate programs.

  • School of Pharmacy and Health Sciences

Started in 2014, this school provides a doctorate in Pharmacy and a master’s degree in genetic counseling and genomic data analytics.

  • School of Medicine

Currently, this school is not accepting applications. Founded in August 2019, this school will provide innovative general medicine courses.

Housing Facilities

The residence facility offered by the institute was inaugurated in July 2019. The Oasis KGI commons include an open outdoor plaza, student lounges, swimming pool, fitness center, BBQ area and a big 10,000 square feet of classroom space.

  • Oasis KGI commons is a four-story community containing three types of apartments: - Studios, One Bedroom, and Two bedrooms.
  • Single Bedrooms, by default, are not furnished. The student may opt for furnishing options separately according to their needs
  • Double bedrooms are furnished with 2 beds, 2 desks, chairs, and 2 dressers.
  • Moreover, CUC real estate and housing functions provide off-campus housing facilities for students, faculty, and staff of The Claremont Colleges.

Admissions

Students who want to seek admissions into Keck Graduate Institute should know about the eligibility, and exams to study in the USA. Applicants are advised to go through the official website of the college before applying. 

How to Apply: The students may apply for all the courses at KGI through an online application. After the online application is complete, an admission counselor will be there to help you through the application process.

Application Fee: A non-refundable fee of 75 USD applies to all the graduate and doctorate courses of KGI. However, there is no fee for certificate courses.

Application Deadline

The last date for applying varies according to the courses and the school.

Henry E. Riggs School of Applied Sciences

All of the courses except the Certificate course in Bioscience management starts in the Fall session only. The Certificate in Bioscience Management (CBM) is started in two sessions i.e. Fall and Spring. The school offers a rolling deadline.

School of Pharmacy and Health Sciences

For the three courses offered by this school, the last date to apply varies from January 15 to July 2.

Application Requirements

The international students willing to take admissions to the Keck Graduate Institute need to take care of the following requirements:

  • A personal statement of about 3 pages describing your academic, career and personal objectives.
  • Latest Resume.
  • Letter of recommendation from at least one recommender who can be contacted via email.
  • Translated copies of official transcripts of all the previous schools/colleges attended.
  • Valid test scores from GRE, MCAT or GMAT.
  • Proof of English Proficiency i.e. IELTS or TOEFL. Also, any student who has studied in the US for at least 2 years need not provide the English proficiency proof.

Cost of Attendance

The cost of attendance comprises of two parts:

  1. Institutional Cost – The tuition fee decided by the institute.
  2. Non-Institutional Cost – Other costs that are not set by the school. These costs depend on the market fee and include living costs, books, supplies, and transportation costs, etc.

Henry E. Riggs School of Applied Life Sciences

All students will receive a financial aid package that is unique to them. There is no separate application for merit scholarships. Students will be automatically considered for merit scholarship. The general criteria considered for merit-scholarships are:

  • Need-Based Aid

Need-based aid is offered to international students who demonstrate a financial need. Students of MBS, MEng, and PharmaD are eligible to apply for the need-based aid. For applying for need-based financial aid, international students should fill the KGI Need-Based Financial Application. The total award is divided by the number of years the student will be pursuing education at KGI and is disbursed during each semester.

  • KGI International Student Loan

KGI offers International students educational loans to study in the USA. Each international student is eligible for an annual loan limit of 20,500 USD. The students from the following programs are eligible for the international student loan.

  • Master of Engineering in Biopharmaceutical Processing
  • Master of Science in Applied Sciences
  • Master of Science in Translational Medicine
  • Master of Science in Human Genetics and Genetic Counselling

To avail the scholarship the students need to submit the completed master promissory note to KGI’s Financial Aid Office. 

Alumni

The Keck Graduate Institute helps alumni of the college to reconnect. The university regularly updates information about their alumni and also conducts events for them. The office of Alumni Engagement, KGI is responsible for connecting the alumni of the college on various occasions like networking receptions, topical webinars, educational opportunities, etc. Few of the notable alumni of the college are:

  • Line Stigen Raquet – Graduated from KGI in 2002, she is currently working as CEO of Creoptix, a Switzerland-based company specializing in bio-analytical instruments
  • Lawrence Maddela – Part of the clinical and regulatory affairs development program at Edwards Lifesciences and a Regulatory affairs rap artist.
