Ohio State University (OSU) starts its admission process in autumn and spring season. In 2018, the university received 52540 applications for undergraduate admissions out of which only 24943 were offered admission.

The admission in OSU is selective. The university reviews the applications holistically and admits applicants who have the ability to lead, contribute and engage with a diverse campus community. February is the application deadline for admission to the autumn semester, although December applications are given full consideration for scholarships and financial aid. Over 75% of students receive some form of financial assistance.

Factors affecting admissions in OSU are -

  • Successful completion of a college preparatory high school curriculum, class rank or GPA, and ACT/SAT scores.
  • Advanced high school coursework, ethnic, racial, geographic, and socioeconomic diversity affect the admission of an applicant

Ohio State University International Admissions

The university welcomes more than 6000 international students from 100 countries. The initial point of contact for international students is the Office of International Affairs.

International students do not receive U.S. federal financial aid. However, they are eligible to be considered for University Fellowships and aid offered by the specific graduate program in the form of teaching, administrative and research assistantships. Also, the Office of International Affairs provides a few Graduate/Professional Student Grants and Scholarships.

Ohio State University Undergraduate Admissions 

Ohio State University offers 200+ major undergraduate programs. To enrol in the intended major major program you have to fulfil prerequisites of the desired program. However, some majors are competitive and have only a limited number of seats, so fulfilling the minimum requirement doesn’t guarantee admission.

All academic major programs at OSU are offered by degree-granting colleges or schools and has their own academic requirements.

Ohio State University Graduate Admissions

Each graduate program sets its own application deadlines and review schedule. The applicant must complete the application with all supporting credentials by the application deadline.

  • Some graduate programs have their own specific reference/recommendation form, so be sure to confirm their requirements.
  • Most programs make their admission and financial aid decisions between the months of January and March for the following autumn term.
  • OSU requires the completion of a four-year bachelor's degree or the equivalent. Three-year degrees are not generally recognized to be equivalent. If the applicant has a three-year degree then the applicant must complete a master’s degree or an approved post-graduate diploma.
  • If the applicant is fully funded by OSU, the university will review the funding and passport to finalize admission, and issue student visa.
  • However, if the applicant is not fully funded, the university will ask for a copy of the passport and the Affidavit of Support to begin an applicant’s financial review. The applicant must pass this review before the university can finalize the admission and issue student visa.

Depending on the program, an audition, portfolio, sample of written work, GRE or GMAT test score, etc., may be required.
