The Ohio State University Application Deadlines 2027
Each Ohio State program sets its own deadline, but Autumn 2027 is the intake where most master’s, PhD, and undergraduate programs open, per the official Graduate and Professional Admissions page. Spring 2027 admits are limited and mostly restricted to a few engineering tracks. Indian applicants should target Autumn for the widest program choice and funding access.
The Ohio State University’s primary intake for Indian students is Autumn 2027 (August start), and most programs open only here.

The Common App is the required route for first-year international undergraduates, per the official international freshmen steps, and the cycle opened on the platform’s published date of 1 August 2026. Graduate applications route through the OSU Graduate Admissions portal directly, not through a central platform. Fisher’s Round 4 on 1 April 2027 is the last opportunity for Indian applicants needing an I-20 in time for Autumn 2027, since the May Final Round is limited to space-available cases.
The Ohio State University Eligibility for Indian Students
Ohio State applies institution-wide floors, and each department layers its own higher bars on top. Indian applicants should confirm both. The Graduate School minimum is a four-year bachelor’s degree with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, which maps to roughly 60 to 65 percent on an Indian percentage scale.
- UG general entry: Class XII completion with strong grades (competitive admits sit around 85 percent and above) plus SAT or ACT.
- PG general entry: Four-year Indian bachelor’s at 3.0 GPA (around 60 to 65 percent), rising to 3.2 preferred for engineering.
- Three-year Indian bachelor’s: Not directly accepted for graduate study. Must be paired with an Indian master’s, a one to two-year PG diploma, or additional post-secondary coursework to meet the 16-year study requirement.
- Standardised tests: SAT or ACT mandatory for UG. GRE is not required for MS CSE or MS ECE. GMAT or GRE required for Fisher MBA, with waivers on offer for quantitative or STEM backgrounds.
English proficiency is required for every Indian applicant, since India is not on Ohio State’s list of English-exempt countries. Accepted tests and floors:
| Test | UG Minimum | PG Minimum |
|---|---|---|
| IELTS Academic | 6.5 | 6.5 (ECE prefers 7.0) |
| TOEFL iBT | 79 | 79 (varies by program) |
| Duolingo English Test | 120 | 120 |
| SAT EBRW / ACT English | SAT EBRW 550 / ACT English 21 | Not accepted |
Indian applicants are not eligible for Ohio State’s IELTS or TOEFL waiver, since the waiver applies only to bachelor’s degree holders from designated English-speaking countries such as the UK, Canada, Australia, or Singapore. A Medium of Instruction letter from an Indian university does not substitute for a test score.

Fisher MBA Test Policy and Work Experience
Both GMAT and GRE are accepted, with no minimum score. Waivers apply where the applicant holds a STEM undergraduate degree, has completed advanced quantitative coursework, or holds relevant certification such as CPA or CFA. There is no formal minimum work experience requirement, though the incoming class average sits around five years. Fisher’s average GMAT score is 673 on the legacy test and 653 on the GMAT Focus edition.
Fisher MBA Interview Process
Every applicant completes a pre-recorded video interview on the Kira Talent platform, running 20 to 30 minutes. A live interview follows by invitation only, either on-campus in Columbus or via Zoom. The invitation is a strong signal in the evaluation process. Fisher covers no travel costs for on-campus interviews.
Note: Program-specific entry requirements, fees, and intake availability may differ from the institution-wide minimums shown above. Always confirm on the official Fisher MBA page for your chosen program before applying.
The Ohio State University PhD Admissions and Funding
PhD applications at Ohio State follow the same December to February window as most master’s programs, but funding decisions drive the tighter fellowship deadlines. Most PhD admits arrive on a Graduate Research Associateship or Graduate Teaching Associateship, which covers full tuition plus a monthly stipend.
PhD Application Timeline
CSE, ECE, and Mechanical Engineering PhD programs review applications received by mid-December for Autumn 2027 fellowship consideration. Spring PhD admits are rare and extended only when a supervisor confirms research funding upfront. Indian PhD applicants should identify potential advisors during summer 2026 and reach out with a research statement before submitting.
PhD Funding for Indian Students
Ohio State’s University Fellowship funds first-year PhD students with a full tuition waiver plus a stipend, generally around USD 30,000 (around INR 28.70 Lakhs) per academic year. Departments layer additional GRA or GTA support for years 2 to 5. Confirm current stipend figures with your target department, since amounts adjust annually.
Planning note: Indian PhD applicants with a three-year bachelor’s plus a two-year Indian master’s are treated as meeting the 16-year study requirement. A three-year bachelor’s alone is not accepted for PhD entry.
Note: Program-specific entry requirements, fees, and intake availability may differ from the institution-wide minimums shown above. Always confirm on the official Graduate School handbook for your chosen program before applying.
The Ohio State University Application Process Step by Step
Ohio State keeps the application flow simple, but international applicants should build in extra weeks for transcript evaluation, English test bookings, and financial documentation.
- Undergraduate applicants create a Common App account. The 2026-27 Common Application cycle opened on 1 August 2026. Graduate applicants create an account on the OSU Graduate and Professional Admissions portal at gpadmissions.osu.edu.
- Select the program and intake. Confirm Autumn 2027 availability, since many departments do not admit for Spring or Summer.
- Pay the application fee of USD 70 (around INR 6,698) for international graduate applicants on the OSU Graduate portal. Undergraduate applicants pay the per-college Common App fee.
- Upload unofficial transcripts from every post-secondary institution attended, with certified English translations where the original is in a regional language.
- Submit English proficiency scores. IELTS, TOEFL iBT, or Duolingo scores must reach Ohio State by the program deadline. ETS institution code for TOEFL is 1592.
- Add three letters of recommendation submitted directly by referees through the portal.
- Upload the Statement of Purpose and CV. The SOP should map research fit for graduate programs and career goals for professional master’s tracks.
- Send SAT or ACT scores for undergraduate applicants using code 1592 (SAT) or 3312 (ACT).
- Track your application status on the applicant portal until a decision is issued.
The Ohio State University Documents Required for Indian Applicants
Indian applicants should assemble the document set at least eight weeks before their target deadline, given the time needed for transcript certification and courier delivery of official documents.
- Valid Indian passport with at least 18 months of validity beyond the intended arrival date.
- Official Class X and Class XII marksheets plus board-issued certificates, with attested English translations if in a regional language.
- Official bachelor’s degree marksheets and provisional or final degree certificate from every institution attended.

- Updated CV or resume, capped at two pages for master’s programs.
- Three letters of recommendation uploaded by referees, ideally two academic and one professional for master’s and PhD.
- Financial documentation showing at least one year of tuition plus living costs for the I-20 issuance stage.
- English proficiency score report sent directly by the testing agency.
- SAT or ACT official score report for undergraduate applicants.
- Passport-sized photograph matching US visa specifications.
The Ohio State University Acceptance Rate
Ohio State’s institutional acceptance rate sits around 51 percent, making it moderately competitive at the university level. The figure hides sharp variation across programs and colleges.
OSU Acceptance Rate by Program Type
MS Computer Science and Engineering is among the most selective PG programs for Indian applicants, with admits typically holding a 3.5 GPA equivalent (around 75 percent and above) plus strong coding projects. The Fisher Full-Time MBA runs an admit rate estimated at 30 to 40 percent, based on incoming class size versus applicant volume, since Fisher does not publish an official MBA-specific acceptance rate. Engineering PhD tracks are the tightest, with admits limited by faculty funding.
What Indian Applicants Should Know
Undergraduate international admission is more forgiving than the headline rate suggests, with holistic review weighing SAT superscores, Class XII rigour, essays, and activities. Applying by Early Action (1 November 2026) improves both the admit chance and merit scholarship consideration.
Insider note: Reviews from Indian students on the Ohio State student reviews page flag that a solid GRE (even though optional for many MS tracks) still helps applicants from lesser-known Indian universities distinguish themselves.
USA Student Visa Process for The Ohio State University Applicants
Indian students admitted to Ohio State apply for the F-1 student visa. Once admitted, the Office of International Affairs issues a Form I-20 after financial documentation is verified. Applicants then pay the SEVIS I-901 fee of USD 350 (around INR 33,488), complete the DS-160 form, and book a visa interview at the US Embassy in New Delhi or one of the four US Consulates in Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, or Hyderabad.
The visa interview covers admission proof, financial capacity, and ties to India. Applicants should carry the I-20, SEVIS receipt, DS-160 confirmation, MRV fee receipt, passport, admission letter, transcripts, and funding evidence covering the first year’s total cost of around USD 70,000 (around INR 66.98 Lakhs) including tuition and living expenses. After arrival in Columbus, students complete a mandatory international check-in with the Ohio State ranking band reflected in the Office of International Affairs orientation window before the semester starts.
2026 update: US student visa interview wait times at Indian consulates are running highest in Mumbai and Delhi during May and June. Indian admits to Ohio State should book the visa slot within one week of receiving the I-20 to protect Autumn 2027 arrival.
Tips and Checklist for The Ohio State University Admissions
The following tips and steps are drawn from Indian-applicant patterns at Ohio State, focused on Autumn 2027 timelines.

- There are GRA opportunities available but the scholarship is extremely selective and I did not get one. getting a GRA not only pays your entire tuition fees but it also sees that you get paid around $2000 per month. Typically, profs have the power to offer you GRA but you have to approach them requesting a GRA and project idea.
- If the prof agrees to accept you as a GRA, then you get an offer letter from OSU. Many of my friends got GRA offers. Most of them were from Mechanical. OSU is a great school if you are in mechanical engineering since there are ample funding opportunities.
- In electrical engineering, the high-voltage electric lab got a lot of funding. (I graduated from OSU in 2024 so this could have changed since then.)

The program they offer is the best in the country and the best school in Ohio that is offered for my program. They aren't affordable and close to my hometown. They have the best professors, advisors, and programs.
Scholarship
I was not offered any scholarships from my university and I was not offered any financial aid due to my parent's income.
