Programs

The college offers more than 35 diverse interdisciplinary majors in around 50 ranging areas of study and dozens of special programs, internships and partnerships to applicants around the globe.The courses available are broadly segregated into 5 categories, namely,

  • Interdisciplinary

Some of the popular majors available at the institute favoured by international applicants include Pre-Engineering, Psychology, Biology, Photography, Cross-Cultural Relations, Politics, Music, Theater, Literary Studies and Creative Writing.

Campus

Spread in a vast area of 275 acres, the college campus is situated right in the heart of the Berkshire, an area renowned for its scenic beauty and rich cultural life. Located in a huge area away from the city chaos, the campus provides the students a vibrantly pleasing environment to help them balance their academics with physical, emotional, and social sides of their being. 

Campus offers its students facilities of residence halls and freshly prepared meals in the varying variety of options to choose from. Endless number of clubs to be a part of and timely social events like dances and open mics, talent shows, et al. ensures that you are never bored on campus. 

Some of the popular buildings on campus include Libowitz Center for iNternational Students, Kilpatrick Athletic Center, Daniel Arts Center and Fischer Science & Academic Center.

Athletics form another important component of Bard College's campus where students can choose to be a part of their favourite sport team like soccer, basketball and swimming, among others. There are also provisions for activities like hiking and canoeing during the summers. During the winters, students can enjoy activities like snowshoeing and skiing inside the college campus.

Residential Facilities

Bard College at Simon's Rock

The college offers its candidates an option of on-campus housing across its many residence halls namely, Kendrick, Dolliver, Crosby, Hill, Carriage, Pibly and the Mods. First-year students coming to the institute are assigned accommodation roommates on the basis of their gender identity. Some of the residence and their corresponding features are discussed as follows:

  • Kendrick houses are for the students who are in their first/second year. It is located in a close proximity to the dining hall and other academic classes on the campus. It is serving the students with a decent infrastructure that includes 20 double rooms and 16 single rooms.
  • Dolliver house, a man only residence hall which includes 23 double rooms which are quite spacious and well maintained.
  • The Crosby house is an exclusive space for the female students. It provides the students with 34 double rooms and 19 single rooms.

In addition to the names listed above, the institute also offers several other alternatives for candidates in their junior and senior years looking to reside more independently which includes Checker Chance, Orchard Houses, Lake Mansfield Houses, and Pebble House, to name a few.

Admission Requirements

Some of the basic requirements to be fulfilled while applying to the institute are as mentioned below.

  • Academic Transcripts.
  • Minimum GPA of 3.5 and above.
  • The candidates will be selected on the respective scores of the SAT and ACT. The scores must be informed or submitted by the candidates during the time of their admission. The minimum SAT and ACT required score that a candidate must score to be eligible for enrollment is 1300 and 29, respectively. 
  • International students whose first language is not English, are required to submit valid TOEFL/IELTS scores. A minimum score of 65 for TOEFL 6.5 in IELTS is the basic qualification specification.

Note that after availing need-based grants and scholarships, an estimated cost of attendance at the institute for an international applicant can come down to 23,469 USD and above.

Scholarship and Financial Aid

Almost all the students taking admissions to the institute are automatically eligible for scholarships. The students do not require to fill any other form for being eligible for the scholarship. The college offers scholarships ranging from 1,000 USD as a contribution towards tuition fee expenses.

Some of the scholarships to study in the USA offered by the institute are as compiled below.

Simon’s rock scholarships: This scholarship amount varies according to the student’s academic records. This is provided to the first year students.

Elizabeth Blodgett Hall and Livingston Hall scholarships: This is a scholarship awarded to the students to help them complete their tuition fees.

Young Writer’s Workshop scholarship: The College organizes several events to encourage the creative thoughts in you. They also provide scholarships to the creative writers who participate in this program. They are provided with a scholarship of about 20,000 USD.

Alumni network

The Bard College of Simon’s Rock organises several events for the reunion of all the pass-out students. There are benefits that are provided to the alumni members and they get limited discounts on accommodations on third part stays. However, they are not provided housing inside the campus.

Notable alumni:

John Hamilton McWhorter is an alumni student of Simon's rock from where he had received an A.A. degree. At present he is an associate professor who is teaching English and literature at Columbia University.

Thomas Carlyle Ford, presently a fashion designer and also a very respective filmmaker in America.
