Fort Hays State University offers more than 60 undergraduate academic programs and 15 graduate academic programs. The average GPA of incoming freshman is 3.37. SAT score of 980 or above for tests taken before March 2016 or SAT score of 1080 or above for tests taken March 2016 or after are required which makes it competitive to get admission in the university through SAT scores. The ACT scores are moderately competitive at 21.

Fort Hays State University International Admissions

International Student Services Offices is responsible for the admission process of international applicants.

Following are the requirements for international applicants:

  • Official transcripts (English translation required) of all post-secondary school work including proof of High School graduation.
  • High School GPA: 2.5
  • International students must meet minimum English proficiency requirements before beginning coursework at Fort Hays State University.
  • Copy of the ID page in the passport
  • A certified financial statement showing evidence of sufficient funds either through the form provided or a certified bank financial document.
  • If the applicant has received a scholarship from their government, they must also provide a personal financial statement for the entire amount of sufficient funds.

Language Requirements for International Students

To provide proof of English proficiency, the applicants must either have a TOEFL score of 500 or more or meet any one of the following requirements:

Fort Hays State University Undergraduate Admissions

Freshman Kansas and Non-Kansas residents (under 21 years of age) graduating in 2015 or later must:

  • Complete the Kansas Qualified Admissions Pre-College Curriculum with a minimum GPA of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale
  • Meet one of the following test score requirements:
    • ACT composite score of 21 or above
    • SAT score: 980 or above (tests taken before March 2016) or 1080 or above (tests taken March 2016 or after)
    • Rank in the top 1/3 of the high school's graduating class

Transfer Applicants

Transfer students must have a minimum 2.00 cumulative GPA (on a 4.0 scale) on all previous college work.

Fort Hays State University admission requirements for graduate applicants:

  • Official transcripts.
  • International students must get their transcripts evaluated course-by-course from World Education Service (WES).
  • Entrance examination scores as required by individual departments.
  • 2 Letters of recommendation
  • Other documents may also be required by specific departments, such as a personal statement, background check release, writing sample, or digital art slides.
  • International students must provide proof of English language proficiency.
  • The department will follow these regulations:
    • A minimum GPA of 2.50 (C plus) on the last 60 hours of undergraduate credit.
    • Adequate preparation in the area of specialization in the area of the proposed study
    • A degree from a regionally accredited institution.
