University of Houston International Student Admissions

The admission requirements for International students are a little different from domestic students. The following information is provided for the International students who want admission to the University of Houston.

  • Application fee (non-refundable)
  • Degree certificates and transcripts should be sent directly by the issuing university in sealed and stamped envelopes. 
  • English translation of transcript must be attached with the original.
  • International students must provide proof of financial support to receive Form I-20.
  • All the students must demonstrate English proficiency to obtain admission.
  • Some programs may require tests scores of different standardized exams

Post-admission Requirements for International Students

  • Log on to complete Pre-Arrival Orientation.
  • Attend a check-in session and orientation organized by the International Student and Scholar Services Office (ISSSO).
  • Students will receive their myUH ID in the offer letter. Visit AccessUH and use the ID to set a login password. Also, enter contact and mailing information.
  • Prior to enrollment, the students have to provide all the official documents. 
  • After submitting the documents, the students can register for the class through myUH self-service. 

Country-specific requirements for University of Houston Admissions

Indian applicants must submit their complete academic record. This includes:

  • Individual mark sheets of all semesters attended
  • Provisional/Final degree

All attested documents must be done so by the issuing university/ college.

University of Houston Visa Requirements

International students require an F1 or J1 visa in order to study any program at University of Houston. Immigration related documents are only required after the student has been offered admission into the university. However, the application will not be saved or submitted unless the applicants provide these documents. Blank sheets can be used in their stead. 

To receive form I20, an international applicant needs to submit:

  • A recent letter of financial backing form
  • Bank statement (minimum balance of 38,700 USD)
  • Copy of the biometric page of current passport
  • International address form

On receiving the form I20, students can fill the SEVIS fee and print the receipt. After this, students can schedule a visit at the nearby US Embassy and appear for their visa interview.

University of Houston Undergraduate Admissions

How to Apply: The students can apply for admission using either the Common Application or the Apply Texas Application.

Application Fee:90 USD for International students. The payment can be made with a credit/debit card or check.

  • According to the University of Houston Eligibility Index, a student should have scores of at least 1170(SAT) or 24 (ACT) with a 3.0 GPA or higher.
