International Student Requirements

The international admissions are governed by the International Services Office. The legal admission of international students, scholars, trainees, visitors and faculty to the United States participating in programs of research, education and clinical services is facilitated by this body.

The office advice international students and helps with the documentation necessary to maintain their legal status in the United States. International students are also assisted as to how they can adjust to life in the United States.

Following are the requirements for all international applicants:

  • Evaluated transcripts: Transcripts should contain the applicant’s major of study, the degree earned, and the date the degree was conferred.
  • Certified English translation of transcript if in another language.

Language Requirements for International Students

International students are required to demonstrate their proficiency in English by fulfilling one of the following criteria:

  • A minimum TOEFL internet-based test score of 90.
  • A minimum TOEFL paper-based exam score of 600.
  • A minimum overall IELTS score of 6.5.

Scores should not be older than 2 years.

Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences

Following are the requirements for admission in Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences:

  • Official transcripts are required from every institution applicant has earned a degree from.
  • It is recommended to utilize e-SCRIP or Parchment electronic services.
  • All transcripts must be in English. If they are not, have them translated by a certified translation service.
  • Students who have completed degrees from outside the U.S. may be required by the Graduate School or Registrar's Office to submit a transcript degree evaluation from an accredited evaluation service.
  • The general aptitude portion of the GRE is required.
  • The specific programs should be checked for approval to substitute official MCAT scores in place of the GRE.
  • A one-page personal statement.
  • A research statement.
  • 3 letters of recommendation from professors and research supervisors. If the applicant has research experience, one of the letters must be from a research supervisor.
  • Personal interviews: Applicants will be notified if they have been selected for an interview between December and January.

School of Medicine

  • Applicants should have an average GPA of 3.8 or higher.
  • All candidates must take the Medical College Admission Test sponsored by the Association of American Medical Colleges.
  • MCAT scores that are three years old or less are accepted by Baylor College of Medicine.
  • Results of the GRE may not be used as a substitute for the MCAT.
  • A minimum of 3 letters of recommendation are required, M.D./Ph.D. applicants must provide a minimum of 1 additional letter of reference from research mentor(s) addressing the applicant's potential as an investigator.
  • Before offering a place in the first-year class, applicants are personally interviewed at Baylor College of Medicine.
  • The applicants are responsible to check the status of their application and ensure that the college receives all required documents (letters, supplemental application, payment, etc.).
