For the Fall 2019 undergraduate admission at the University of Missouri- Kansas City, 56% of the 5574 applicants were chosen. It has a selective admission process where candidates are evaluated based on GPA and standardized test scores. The university accepts applications for fall, spring, and summer semesters.

The University of Missouri – Kansas City (UMKC) offers more than 125 undergraduate, graduate, doctorate, and certificate courses in the fields of engineering & computing, medicine, arts, science, law, education, and management.

  • In Fall 2018, UKMC had enrolled around 16,375 students.
  • There are more than 1400 international students in UMKC.
  • Academic scholarships for international students (F1 or J1 visa holders) are awarded based on GPA (minimum 3.0) and TOEFL (minimum 79 in iBT)/ IELTS (minimum 6.0) and no separate application is required.
  • Applications for priority scholarship should be submitted by January 15.

  • In the light of the pandemic COVID 19, UMKC will accept at-home tests of standardized exams like TOEFL and GRE.

Admission requirements

  • Academic Records: PDF copies of all the previous academic records (transcripts, mark sheets, diplomas, degree certificates, etc).
  • Standardized test scores - SAT/ACT (ACT code is 2380) for undergraduates and GMAT/GRE scores for graduates (UMKC code is 6872)
  • Personal statement – One-page essay demonstrating the skills, interests, educational goals of the applicant and explaining the reason for choosing UMKC.
  • Statement of finances - Bank statement demonstrating the ability to cover the tuition and living expenses of one academic year.
  • A copy of the passport
  • Affidavit of Support: Proof of sponsorship by any friend or family member
  • Immigration documents: International students who are already attending any institution in the U.S have to provide a copy of visa, I-94, and I-20.
  • Transfer-In-Form for applicants from other institutions in the U.S
  • Proof of English Language Proficiency (required scores are mentioned below)

English Language Proficiency

The international students from non-English speaking nations have to demonstrate their proficiency in the English language through standardized tests.

Visa Process for International Students

International students will require a visa to study in the United States. UMKC will issue the Form I-20 only after the candidate is selected. Candidates will have to sign the form and contact the U.S Embassy in their country to apply for the F1 or J1 visa. Applicants have to pay the visa fees before beginning the document verification process.

The applicants have to submit the following during the verification process:

  • I-20 and the admission letter sent by the university
  • Receipt of the visa application
  • Passport (should be valid for at least 6 months beyond the intended stay in the US)
  • Original academic transcripts from previously attended institutes
  • Standardized test scores (TOEFL, IELTS, GMAT, GRE, etc).
  • Original documents showing the current salary of the sponsor or the tax form, demonstrating the ability to pay for one year of tuition and living expenses in the U.S.A.
  • One set of financial documents.

University of Missouri Kansas City Undergraduate Admissions

UMKC offers more than 125 courses in the field of engineering & computing, medicine, arts, science, law, education, and management.

All freshmen applicants should have completed four units of English, four units of mathematics, three units of science, three units of social studies, two units of a single foreign language, and one unit of fine arts as high school core-requirement.

  • Official high school transcripts
  • A minimum GPA and ACT scores are required to get automatic admissions.
    • o School of Engineering – GPA of 3.0 and 24 in ACT composite, 25 in Math subscore
    • o Other Schools – GPA of 2.5 and 19 in ACT composite(ACT code – 2380)
  • Test-Optional – students with a GPA above 2.75 may not require submitting ACT/SAT scores.

University of Missouri - Kansas City Graduate Admission

Graduate applicants at UMKC should have a degree equivalent to the four-year US bachelor’s degree or a first-level professional degree. The degrees from the non-US colleges should be recognized and approved by the Ministry of Education or Commission responsible for the higher education of the country.
